Connections must be completed only by authorized personnel. 2. Pay particular attention when connecting the encoders power supply. (For TTL sensor max. 5V, for Push-Pull sensor max. 30V). 3. Don not power the encoder before all connections have been completed. 4. Please ensure that the lead length between the encoder and the control system are kept as short as possible. Avoid looping excess cable. 5. Take care to ensure that all encoder cables are clear of all potential electrical or inductive noise sources. 6. Ensure that the cable screen is connected to earth. 7. Ensure the encoder is mounted away from strong or stray magnetic field sources. 8. Don t make any connection when the scale energized. 9. If you have any problems with the encoder please contact your dealer or our service centre.
2. GENERAL INFORMATION The large forces required in metal forming operations can result in machine deformation which in turn can put strain on the linear encoder. This additional force will affect the performance of the linear encoder and may lead to a reduction of accuracy or repeatability in the forming operation. The MLC 420 was specifically designed to overcome these issues by integrating a guided reader-head system and high tolerance mounting. Available in extended measuring lengths up to 2000mm the MLC420 is the ideal solution for a wide range of fabrication and highly demanding applications that may experience high levels of vibration and/or shock. Magnetic encoders are particularly suited to harsh environments as, unlike optical types, they do not require regular cleaning. The magnetic signals operate through dust, condensation and even through liquids providing accurate and consistent operation where optical systems would fail. RIGHT LEFT The encoder is supplied as a pre assembled unit with integrated bearing system in an aluminium profile making installation quick and simple without the need for precision mounting. Whilst the MLC420 can be pre-ordered for Left or Right-hand mounting this can be easily changed during installation. If you know your exact machine configuration then our fully pre-configured MLC410 may be an option. 5. SETUP The MLC 420 can be user configured for either Left-handed or Right-handed mounting. 5.1 Adjusting the Reference mark location 2nd Position 1st Position The Reference point position can be easily moved to match the requirements of the installation. Using a 1.5mm Allen Key loosen the set-screws used to secure the reference marker. Slide the reference marker to its new position and re-secure. The standard reference marker positions for Left and Right-hand mounting are pre-defined for you. However, you can locate the reference mark in other locations of your choice but is is then strongly recommended that you then secure the reference marker using an adhesive to prevent possible movement during operation. 5.2 Setting the cable direction 2nd Position 1st Position The cable connection direction can be changed by detaching the cable assembly from the reader-head and then opening the connector using a Phillips screwdriver. To change the cable entry swap over the cable and blanking plug then re-assemble and re-attach to the encoder reader-head. 5.3 Setting the mounting direction 2nd Position 1st Position The mounting direction can be easily selected for left or right-handed mounting by changing the side of the mounting boss. To achieve this use a 3mm Allen key to remove the boss and re-locate it to the other-side of the reader-head. - 5 -
1 WARNING!!! When you are changing the cable direction take care to ensure the arrow (1) is as above. Ensuring correct installation of the MLC 420 will provide correct and accurate service for many years. Failure to install the encoder correctly may result in premature failure, inaccuracies and may invalidate the warranty. 6. Installation 0,2 Max 0,2 mm deviation can be.
