Installing the Program We highly recommended that you quit all applications before installing the game. To install the program: 1. Insert the JumpStart World of Learning Preschool CD ROM into your CD ROM drive. 2. If AutoPlay is enabled, click the Install button and follow the installation instructions on the screen. 3. If AutoPlay is not enabled, click Start and then Run from the Windows taskbar. Type D:\install.exe and click OK. (D: refers to your CD ROM drive. If D is not your CD ROM drive, type the appropriate letter.) After the installation is complete, you'll find the JSWorld of Learning Preschool in the JumpStart World of Learning menu. Starting the Program 1. Close all running Windows applications. 2. Click on Start. 3. Move the cursor to All Programs, then to the JumpStart World of Learning folder, and then to the JumpStart World Learning Preschool folder. 4. Click on the JSWorld of Learning Preschool icon or Teacher Control Panel Preschool icon. Teacher Application icon Student Application icon Note: If you chose to place a teacher or student shortcut icon on your desktop as part of the install, you can double click on it to start the program. Uninstalling the Program Follow these steps to use the uninstall function available in Windows to remove JumpStart World of Learning from your system: 1. Click on Start. 2. Click Control Panel. 3. Double click Add or Remove Programs. 4. Select JSWorld of Learning Preschool from the list. 5. Follow the prompts to complete the un installation. Teacher Manual 5 2010 Knowledge Adventure, Inc. Teacher Menu When you start JumpStart World of Learning using the JumpStart World of Learning Teacher Application icon, the Teacher Menu will appear with the following options: Teacher Control Panel Click on this button to go to the Teacher Control Panel, where you can create class groups, assign lessons, and view students progress. Teacher Manual Click on the Teacher Manual button to open and print this manual. Game Manual (HTML) Click on the Manual button to open and read this manual. Classroom Worksheets (PDF) Click on the Classroom Activities button to open and print this complete set of classroom ideas and activity sheets that reinforce the content of the JumpStart World of Learning program. Teacher Control Panel The Teacher Control Panel is your control center, where you can add student information, create student groups, and view students progress. (Note: Only one user at a time may access the Teacher Control Panel.) To launch the Teacher Control Panel: Double click on the JumpStart World of Learning Teacher Control Panel desktop icon (if created) or select the JumpStart World of Learning Teacher Control Panel icon in the Start Menu. When the Teacher Menu screen appears, select Teacher Control Panel. A navigation toolbar across the top of the screen contains buttons to guide you through the Teacher Control Panel. (The buttons and the features of the Teacher Control Panel are explained below.) All Student List: Go here to create a master list of all students names. Classroom Setup: Click this button to create the different groups you ll assign students to. Roster: Here you can add or remove students from a group. Reports: Access individual and group student records here. Quit: Click this button to leave the program. All Student List When you launch the Teacher Control Panel, you will be taken to the All Student List screen. Here you can create a master list of all your students names. Creating a List of All Students Enter students first and last names in the indicated text boxes. A sign in name for the student will be automatically created, but can be edited. You may also add an optional student ID number. Click the Add Student button or press the Return key to add the student to the list. Click the Clear Fields buttons to cancel changes and clear the text fields. If there is any missing or duplicated information, you will be notified so that you can correct it. Editing or Deleting Student Names Click a student s name on the list to select it. You can scroll through the alphabetical list, or begin typing in the text box above the list to help you find the name more quickly. Click the X button to clear the text in the text box. To edit student information, select the student s name from the list and edit the information in the text boxes Teacher Manual 7 2010 Knowledge Adventure, Inc. All rights reserved

at the left. Click the Add Student button or press the Return key to save the changes. Click the Clear Fields button to cancel changes. (Note: You cannot edit or delete a student s information at the same time the student is using JumpStart World of Learning. Changes can only be made after the student has exited the program.) To delete a student, select the name from the list and click the Delete Student button. A warning dialog box will appear. Click Yes to delete the student. Note: Deleting a student will delete all of his or her records for JumpStart World of Learning. To delete several students, press the Control/Command key on your keyboard as you select the students names in the list. (If the students names are listed sequentially, you can use the Shift key to select those students.) Click the Delete Student button. A warning dialog box will appear. Click Yes to delete the students. Note: Deleting students will delete all of their records for JumpStart World of Learning. To delete all students, click the Delete ALL Students button. A warning dialog box will appear. Click Yes to delete all students. Note: Deleting all students will delete all students records for JumpStart World of Learning. Importing Student Information Click the Import Student Info button to import a CSV file of student names into the All Student List. (See the guidelines below for setting up a CSV file.) A dialog box will appear allowing you to find and select the CSV file you wish to import. If there are duplicate or badly formed names, those names will appear in a different color in the All Student List. You will need to edit these names or they ll be deleted when you leave the All Student List screen. Note: If you have a duplicate name and choose to delete the original name (not the name in red font), the duplicate name does not automatically become acceptable you still need to click on that name in the list and click the Add Student button or press the Return key to save it to the list. Additionally, if that student had records attached to the original name, those records will not be transferred even though the same name is being used. Guidelines for setting up a CSV file: 1. Each line of the CSV file must contain one valid student entry in the following form: last name, first name, sign in name, and student ID number, separated by commas (for example, Miller,Lisa,LisaM,23). The student ID number is an optional field. The sign in name can simply be the student s first name, but please note that this may create duplicates that will have to be edited. 2. The maximum length for first and last names is 10 characters each. Any names longer than this will be truncated upon import. The accepted characters for first and last names are all letters, upper and lower case, periods, apostrophes, hyphens and blank spaces. Numbers and all other characters will not be accepted. (Continued on next page) 3. The maximum length for sign in names and student ID numbers is 12 characters each. Any names or numbers longer than this will be truncated upon import. The accepted characters for sign in names and student ID numbers are all letters, upper and lower case, numbers, periods, apostrophes, hyphens and blank spaces. All other characters will not be accepted. 4. There should be no headers or other extraneous information in the CSV file. 5. Be sure to save and close the file before importing it. Exporting Student Information Click the Export Student Info button to save your student list as a CSV file. A dialog box will appear letting you choose where to save your file. Classroom Setup On this screen, you can create different groups to assign your students to. Click the Classroom Setup button at the top of the screen to enter Classroom Setup. Adding a Group In the Group Name text field box, enter a name for your group, then click the Add Group button or press the Return key. (The maximum length for group names is 14 characters.) The name of your group will appear in the scroll box on the right side of the screen. If the group name already exists, you ll receive a message. You can click the Clear Field button to cancel changes and clear the text fields. To find a group name in the list, you can scroll through the alphabetical list or, for faster results, you can begin typing the name in the text box above the list. (Click the X button to delete text in the text box.) To change the name of a group, first select it in the scroll box. You will see the current name appear in the Group Name text field box. Make your changes in that box and click the Add Group button or press the Return key to save your changes. You can click the Clear Field button to cancel changes. To delete a group from the list, select the group in the scroll box and then click the Delete Group button. A warning dialog box will appear. Click Yes to delete the group. Note: Deleting a group will not delete the students or their records in that group from the program. To delete more than one group, press the Control/Command key on your keyboard and select the groups in the list. Click the Delete Group button. (If the group names are listed sequentially, you can use the Shift key to select those groups.) A warning dialog box will appear. Click Yes to delete those groups. Note: Deleting multiple groups will not delete the students or their records in those groups from the program. To delete all groups, click the Delete ALL Groups button. A warning dialog box will appear. Click Yes to delete all groups. Note: Deleting all groups will not delete the students or their records in those groups from the program. Roster This is where you can add or remove students from a group. Click the Roster button on the panel at the top of the screen, then select the roster from the Current Group drop down box on the right side of the screen. (If you ve already selected that group on another screen, it will appear selected here when you enter.) The groups will be listed in alphabetical order. The list of All Students will appear on the left, and the list of students in your selected group will appear on the right. The names of any students who have already been assigned to the current group will be grayed out in the All Students list. Note: You can assign a student to more than one group. Adding Students to a Group Click a student s name on the All Students list to select it. To find a name, you can scroll through the alphabetical list or, for faster results, you can begin typing in the text box above the list. Click the X button to delete text in the text box. The name will appear in the Student Group list, and will be grayed out in the All Students list to indicate that you have already assigned that student to your group. To assign all your students to the current group, click the Assign ALL to Group button. All the students names will now be listed in the Current Group list (and grayed out in the All Students list). Removing Students from a Group To remove a student from a group, click the student s name in the Current Group list, then click the Remove from Group button. The student s name will now be active again in the All Students list. To remove multiple students from a group, press the Control/Command key on your keyboard as you select the students names from the Current Group list. (If the students names are listed sequentially, you can use the Shift key to select those students.) Click the Remove from Group button. To remove all student names from the current group, click the Remove ALL from Group button. The students names will now be active again in the All Students list. Note: Removing students from a group will not delete them or their records from the program. Reports Here you can view individual and group student records. To enter the Reports screen, click the Reports button on the panel at the top of the screen. In the Student Reports drop down box at the upper left, select the group whose records you want to view. (If you ve already selected that group on another screen, it will appear selected here when you enter.) The list of students in the group will appear below the group name. You can scroll through the list to find the student whose records you want to view. Click on the student s name to view his or her records. (Note: While a student is using JumpStart World of Learning, you cannot view that student s report for any group to which he or she is assigned. A student s report can be viewed only after the student has exited the program.) (Continued on next page) You can scroll through the records in the box to the right. Or, to view a student s records for a particular lesson packet, click the button on the Jump to Lesson Packet drop down menu and select the lesson packet you want. It will appear in the records box. You will see cumulative lesson scores, pre and post test scores, the date each lesson packet was mastered by the student, and the At Home column which lets you access and print offline activities that parents can use to reinforce the lesson at home. allowing you to select your printer, number of copies, etc. To export a student report to a CSV file, click the Export button. A dialog box will appear, allowing you to choose the file s location. Clicking on the house icon in the At Home column will bring up a dialog box enabling you to print offline activities that parents can use to reinforce the lesson at home. You will have the option of printing the tips in English or Spanish. A Print dialog box will appear, allowing you to select your printer, number of copies, etc. Group Summary To view a report showing a group s collective results in bar graph form, click the Group Summary button on the Reports screen. In the Group Summary Report drop down box at the upper left, select the group whose records you want to view. If you ve already selected that group on another screen, it will appear selected here when you enter. (Note: While a student is using JumpStart World of Learning, you cannot view the group summary report for any group to which that student is assigned. The report can be viewed only after the student has exited the program.) A bar graph with numbers will show how many students in the group have mastered each lesson. You can scroll through the records with the scrollbar to the right. Or, to view a group s records for a particular lesson packet, click the button on the Jump to Lesson Packet drop down menu and select the lesson packet you want. It will appear in the records box. To print the group report, click the Print button. A Print dialog box will appear, allowing you to select your printer, number of copies, etc. To export the group report to a CSV file, click the Export button. A dialog box will appear, allowing you to choose the file s location. To return to the individual Student Reports screen, click the Student Reports button.
