Overview This document outlines the steps by which a new user to can successfully install and begin to utilize analytic products. The process outlined below is reflective of a user accessing hosted TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server located at: home.spotfire.net. Users accessing a local TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server installed within their company network should contact their internal system administrator to obtain the proper software release and connection information. Perform the following procedures: Verify System Requirements Software Installation Register a New User Profile Application License Activation Open Example Data Files How to request Support Verify System Requirements 1. Using Internet Explorer, enter the URL link: http://support.spotfire.com Here you will find the following navigation links: System Requirements 2. Click on the Systems Requirements link to review and verify that your computer system complies with the listed hardware, software and networking requirements prior to product installation. The direct URL link to the System Requirements is: http://www.spotfire.com/sr. Please note that Client requires an installation of Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 SP1 or higher. If this isn t already installed, the DecisionSite Client installer will provide a download link for Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 from the Microsoft web site, which should be installed before proceeding with the DecisionSite Client installation. Verify that the user login profile can execute the download of signed ActiveX controls, has Active Scripting enabled and accepts Cookies as outlined in the Web Connection settings listed on the System Requirements page. Additional software requirements include a standard installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Microsoft Windows Script and Microsoft Data Access Components. Disable any active Anti-virus software that may prevent the download or block functionality of signed ActiveX controls, Windows Scripts and Cookies during the installation process. This includes the connection and download of web delivered tools like Statistics, for Functional Genomics and for Lead Discovery. Anti-Virus software may be activated after the product installation and applications download process is complete. Page 2 of 12
Software Installation 1. Locate and execute the Client software distribution.exe file e.g. for Client 9.1.1, the file is named TIB_DSTClient_9.1.1_Win_x86.exe. It is recommended to close all running applications before continuing with the installation. The installer will inspect your system configuration and verify if the required Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 SP1 or higher components are installed. If not present, the installer will redirect to download and installation of Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 to complete before proceeding with the Client installation. 2. At the Welcome to the Installation Wizard screen, select the Next button to proceed or Cancel to exit. 3. At the License Agreement screen, please read and understand the terms outlined in the Software License Agreement. To confirm and continue with the installation, select the I accept the terms in the license agreement radio button then click the Next button to proceed or select Cancel to exit. 4. At the Spotfire Analytics Server screen, enter destination server URL the TIBCO Spotfire DecisionSite Client will connect and access. If connecting to the hosted TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server, enter http://home.spotfire.net. Select Next > to proceed or Cancel to exit the installation. Page 3 of 12
If connecting to a customer-specific TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server, please replace the default URL with the internal server address. If this information is unknown, please contact your internal Administrator. 5. At the Setup Type screen, select the appropriate Complete or Custom installation radio button and select Next button to proceed. If you wish to change the installation directory location, choose the Custom setup type. 6. Once all installation options are selected, the Ready to Install the Program screen will display. Click the Install button to proceed. Page 4 of 12
7. The installation progress bar will indicate the status of the core DecisionSite and Application Manager Packages during installation. 8. Once all the files are installed and properly registered, the Installation Wizard Completed screen will display. Click the Finish button to exit the wizard. Page 5 of 12
Register a New User Profile 1. Once you have installed the Client, launch the application and connect to the TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server. Launch Client via START>All Programs>Spotfire>Spotfire DecisionSite or a shortcut link on your desktop. 2. At the server login screen, verify the server location with the correct URL address as previously entered during the installation process. If you are accessing a local TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server, contact your server administrator for the correct server URL definition. The default server address for the hosted TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server is: home.spotfire.net. To add new or remove existing servers, select the down arrow and click the Add new link. 3. Enter the new server address or URL and select the Add button. Page 6 of 12
4. Your network security settings may prompt you to add the new server address to the trusted sites, select the Yes button to accept. If you select the No button, you may not be able to access the server. 5. After successful server addition, click the OK and return to the login screen. 6. At the main login screen, enter your User ID: and Password: and click the Login button to access the TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server. If you do not have login profile, you may need to complete the registration profile. Select the Register a new user link to proceed to the registration form. Note: If you are accessing a local TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server, contact your internal Spotfire Administrator to verify the login authentication method before proceeding. Once you create a new profile, return to the screen. Enter your new login profile and select Login to access the TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server. Page 7 of 12
A number of required base application packages will download to your system during the login process and will setup your user profile. 7. First time launch of Client will display the Getting Started tutorial to introduce you to basic navigation feature and access to sample data sets. Explore the many available features and links to more advanced product training options and services. Page 8 of 12
Application License Activation When accessing a local TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server, please contact your internal Spotfire Administrator for the proper product license activation. Spotfire Customer Support does not maintain this information which is unique to each site location. If your default server is to the hosted TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server at home.spotfire.net, follow the steps outlined below to unlock and download your licensed applications and tools. 1. Login to the TIBCO Spotfire Analytics Server. From the DecisionSite Client desktop, select File > DecisionSite Login > Unlock New License link. 2. Select the appropriate product license from the list of available products in the dropdown menu and click the "Go" button. 3. Enter the Product Key codes in Field #1 and 2 and select Unlock to activate the selected application software. 4. Upon successful activation, you will be prompted with New License Unlocked. 5. Click the Continue link to return to the main screen and repeat these instructions to activate any additional licensed applications. Application components will be downloaded to your system and update your profile and navigation links. Page 9 of 12
Open Example Data Files After installing the Client, you will have folders containing sample data sets used to help you familiarize yourself with our products. Please follow the steps below so that you might begin to experience the look and feel of the Client and associated tools. 1. Navigate to <install drive>\program Files\Spotfire\DecisionSite\Data\ 2. Launch the ReadMe.htm file to choose any of the various links available to view sample visualization images. Links are available to many sample datasets from which to choose, view all to experience many ways to analyze data from a wide variety of industries and interest. 3. Another method for analyzing data in Spotfire allows you to navigate and import data located on any file location. Please click on the Open file folder icon located on the toolbar. 4. Navigate to the Database Marketing sample dataset via the following path: <install drive>\program Files\Spotfire\DecisionSite\Data\General\Database Marketing In the Database Marketing folder, there are two files available for selection. The Store.csv file contains raw data values. The file Store.sfs identified by the Spotfire target icon contains default visualizations with the raw data values embedded in the results file. Select and open the Store.csv data file to your Spotfire session will result in a basic two-dimensional scatter plot. Select and import the Store.sfs data file to your Spotfire session will result in a pre-configured series of analysis visualizations of the raw data values as listed in the Store.csv file. How to Request Support In order to better serve our customers, TIBCO Spotfire provides customers with access to its Customer Support site. This website allows licensed customers to submit product questions and search knowledge base content. Customers are required to create unique support profile prior to submitting product support requests. If you have any questions or need assistance during the download and installation process, enter your request via the TIBCO Support Web site. Register an account on the support system, go to: http://spotfire.tibco.com/support.
