Legal information Legal information Warning notice system This manual contains notices you have to observe in order to ensure your personal safety, as well as to prevent damage to property. The notices referring to your personal safety are highlighted in the manual by a safety alert symbol, notices referring only to property damage have no safety alert symbol. These notices shown below are graded according to the degree of danger. DANGER indicates that death or severe personal injury will result if proper precautions are not taken. WARNING indicates that death or severe personal injury may result if proper precautions are not taken. CAUTION with a safety alert symbol, indicates that minor personal injury can result if proper precautions are not taken. CAUTION without a safety alert symbol, indicates that property damage can result if proper precautions are not taken. NOTICE indicates that an unintended result or situation can occur if the corresponding information is not taken into account. If more than one degree of danger is present, the warning notice representing the highest degree of danger will be used. A notice warning of injury to persons with a safety alert symbol may also include a warning relating to property damage. Before beginning the software update Deciding on whether to update the software with or without the new functions Process Control System PCS 7; Software updates using new functions (PCS 7 V5.1/V5.2 to V7.0 SP1) You would like to add new PCS 7 functions to your existing PCS 7 project which you have used in PCS 7 V5.1 or PCS 7 V5.2. Note: If you wish to do without some of the new functions in PCS 7 V7.0 SP1, there is no need to activate or reconfigure these functions. However, we would advise you to carry out a complete function upgrade. Result Following the software update, your existing PCS 7 project performs like a new project created with PCS 7 V7.0 SP1 - provided all the steps described in this documentation are carried out in order. Process Control System PCS 7; Software updates without using new functions (PCS 7 V5.1/V5.2 to V7.0 SP1) You wish to update the software without incurring a significant outlay on configuration. You don't wish to use any new hardware or firmware in the automation system. Following the software update, the updated PCS 7 project performs as it did prior to the software update. New functions can only be implemented following a further sequence of steps. 10 Commissioning Manual, 08/2008, A5E01202255-02
Hardware requirements 3 NOTICE Make sure that you perform the requisite preparations for updating software in PCS 7 V5.1 or PCS 7 V5.2 (refer to the section on "Principles for Software Updates" - steps 1 to 13). Hardware requirements The PC on which you wish to install the PCS 7 software must possess one of the following features: Access to a DVD drive via a network Its own DVD drive (e.g. a USB DVD drive) You can find the hardware requirements for the PC in the file pcs7-readme.wri on the PCS 7 Toolset DVD. New license concept with license keys 4 Licensing You require license keys for SIMATIC PCS 7 V7.0 SP1. History Note The PCS 7 license concept was changed from PCS 7 V6.0 SP3. Therefore, the term "license key" is used at all times below even where a product still uses the old license concept with authorizations for licensing. The "Automation License Manager" is the software for transmitting the license keys. The Automation License Manager can also be used to transmit authorizations. The term "authorizations" is used solely in the documentation on updating from PCS 7 V5.x to V6.0. An upgrade license key can be used to convert authorizations to license keys for PCS 7 V6.1. The following changes have been made to the license concept in PCS 7 V7.0: The way of counting the process objects between the OS and the engineering system has been simplified. A license key has been added to the certificate of license for the AS process mode. When the AS is loaded, the number of process objects which have already been downloaded is determined. License keys on ES and OS Ensure that the license keys required for SIMATIC PCS 7 version 7.0 SP1 are installed on the engineering system (ES) and on the operator stations (OS).
