Samsung Galaxy S4 Display Assembly Replacement INTRODUCTION Use this guide along with the Werx Repair Mat to replace the cracked or broken screen on your Samsung Galaxy S4. Use this guide to replace the display assembly. TOOLS: Werx Repair Mat IMPORTANT Take your time! The repair takes about 20-30 minutes. Remember that you will be handling fragile parts, so be gentle! Step 1: Rear Case Before disassembling your phone, be sure it is powered off. Insert a fingernail or a plastic opening tool into the divot to the left of the rearfacing camera. Gently pry and twist the flexible rear cover off the back of the phone. Step 2: Battery Insert a fingernail or plastic opening tool into the recess in the bottom right corner of the battery and lift upward. Remove the battery away from the phone. Step 3: Midframe Use the Werx Repair Mat to keep screws organized Remove the nine 4.0 mm Phillips screws securing the midframe to the display assembly. Step 4: The midframe is secured to the display assembly by several plastic clips behind the chrome bezel of the midframe. Insert a plastic opening tool between the chrome bezel around the display glass and the larger chrome border piece. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 3 of 17
Step 5: Pry around the corner, to the power button side. Step 6: Remove the midframe from the display assembly. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 4 of 17
Step 7: Remove the single 2.4 mm Phillips screw from the motherboard. Step 8: Disconnect the display/digitizer cable connector. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 5 of 17
Step 9: Disconnect the headphone jack assembly cable connector. Step 10: Disconnect the front-facing camera cable connector. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 6 of 17
Step 11: Disconnect the earpiece speaker assembly cable connector. Step 12: Disconnect the USB board connector. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 7 of 17
Step 13: Disconnect the coax signal antenna cable connector. Step 14: Disconnect the WiFi antenna cable connector. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 8 of 17
Step 15: Gently remove the motherboard. Hold the motherboard by its edges to prevent ESD damage. Be casrefull not to snag it on any cables as you extract it from the display assembly. Step 16: Use the heat gun at the lowest setting to heat the frame/border of the phone. When using the heat gun, be careful not to leave it heating in one area for too long. Step 17: Insert the metal spudger underneath the midframe and the front glass. Slide the metal spudger down releasing the adhesive as you go. Step 18: Slide the metal spudger across the top edge of the display to separate adhesive. Pull up slightly as you getting close to the home button, work your way around while sliding the metal spudger. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 10 of 17
Step 19: Insert the metal spudger on the bottom left side underneath the glass and work your way to the top of the phone releasing the adhesive as you go. Step 20: Safely remove the front panel assembly from phone. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 11 of 17
Step 21: Use a pair of tweezers to remove any glass or adhesive left in the frame of the phone. Step 22: Use the air blower to remove lint and dust particles. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 12 of 17
Step 23: Remove the protective plastic from the back of the new LCD assembly. Step 24: Insert the LCD to the front panel assembly. Carefully straighten the LCD cable, and feed them through the slot cut in the outer case Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 13 of 17
Step 25: Run your fingers along the sides being sure the assembly slips evenly into the frame. Step 26: Carefully insert the motherboard to the frame of the phone. Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 14 of 17
Step 27: Reconnect the following cable to the motherboard: o USB board cable o Front-facing camera cable o Earpiece speaker assembly cable o Coax antenna cable o WiFi antenna cable o Display/digitizer cable o Headphone jack assembly cable Step 28: Insert one Phillips screw to the motherboard. Step 29: Midframe Insert the midframe to the display assembly. Step 30: Insert the nine Phillips screws to secure the midframe to the display assembly. Insert the Sim and micro-sd card Werx Parts www.werxparts.com Page 16 of 17
