The organizing of the Saudi Electricity Forum 2017 (SEF 2017), under the patronage and support of the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, comes as one of the most important events in the electricity field in the Kingdom. SEF 2017 represents a strategic gathering where senior officials, experts, and stakeholders of the electricity industry in the Kingdom and all over the world attend and give speeches. Therefore, it represents a great opportunity for the companies and investors nationally and internationally to exchange experiences and enrich knowledge in the field of electricity. The importance of the forum is further assured as it coincides with the developments and growing business in the Kingdom in the Energy Sector in general, and Electricity Sector in particular, to enhance and develop the electricity system. Forum Objectives The importance of SEF 2017 lies in the significance of the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources. As the topics of the Forum are focused on these objectives, meanwhile keeping abreast of the Saudi Vision 2030, which are represented in: Reviewing and discussing issues and challenges facing the Electricity Sector and proposing appropriate solutions within the framework of the Saudi Vision 2030. Keeping abreast of the latest technologies and developments in the electricity industry. Attracting investments, and localizing industries and consultation services. Concluding the Forum with practical and actionable recommendations to develop the Electricity Sector in the Kingdom. The Electricity Sector in the Kingdom: A History of Accomplishments & a Clear Vision for the Future Saudi Electricity System is the largest and most developed system in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, where the installed capacity reaches 75 GW, and customers have amounted to 8.5 million. The growth rate of the demand for electricity is about %7. According to the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030, the Kingdom is diversifying its energy resources by utilizing renewable energy resources, and in order to achieve the goals of the National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020, raising the power efficiency is being highlighted. In addition, the Electricity Sector is being structured and activities of the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) are being separated. Furthermore, %70 of the electricity generation assets will be privatized to enhance private sector contribution in the Electricity Sector. The KSA is working together with the GCC countries to develop electric energy market, regionally and internationally. In this context, Electricity System has been interconnected in the GCC countries. In addition, interconnection project with Egypt is in progress.
