Instructions for installing your QuiltCam on your Gammill quilt machine. The items include with your QuiltCam Items included in all packages: QuiltCam Control Box, See Figure 1 Power Supply, Figure 2 Video camera mounted in a holder with a stylus holder, see Figure 3 Stylus mounting bracket, see Figure 3 Video Monitor, See Figure 4 Video Monitor mounting bracket Cable clips Stylus Rod Screws and Nuts Figure 1 Figure 2 Figure 3 Figure 4
Step #1 Mounting the stylus To mount the stylus on your Gammill quilt machine you will need the large allen wrench that should have come with your quilt machine. On the side of the quilt machine you will find the stylus holder that came with the machine, see Figure 5. Using the allen wrench (5mm) remove both screws, save the screws as you will be reusing them. Figure 5 Slip one of the washers that came with the QuiltCam kit over each screw you just removed. Take the new stylus holder with the camera mounted into and position it in the same place you just removed the old holder from, see Figure 6. Replace the screws and tighten them with the allen wrench. Make sure the stylus is as level as you can get it side to side. I have found that the screw holes on the Gammill may not be level. Figure 6
Step #2 Mounting the control box The control box comes with two 3M command strips mounted on the back of it. Remove the paper off of the command strips and find a nice flat space on the back of the machine to place the control box that is not in the way of the thread path. I would recommend one side of the quilt machine close enough to reach the wires from the camera. Plug the wire from the video camera into the control box, the yellow plug goes into the yellow plug, and black plug goes to the red plug. The shorter cord runs to the video monitor. The longer cable coming out of the control box on the bottom is the power plug and you can run it along the power cord for your quilt machine. Do not plug it in yet. Step #3 Mounting the Video Monitor. The monitor mounts at the front on top of the head of the Gammill, see Figure 7. Figure 7 Find the monitor mount, see Figure 8 Figure 8
The mount uses double face tape to mount on top of the machine's head. I would recommend using some alcohol wipes to clean the top off before placing the mount, if you don't have any alcohol wipes, you can use finger nail polish remove and a paper towel. Once the surface is clean remove the paper off the bottom of the mount, see Figure 9. Figure 9 Carefully place the mount on top of the Gammill head, see figure 10. Press and hold the metal plate down onto the Gammill head for a few minutes to make sure the tape sticks Figure 10
Figure 11 Loosen the nut with the knob on the back of the black monitor mount just so the nut is loose. The nut on the monitor mount needs to slide into the grove on the back of the monitor see Figure 11. Once the nut is loose, slide the monitor over the nut and tighten the black knob. Figure 12 You can move the monitor up or down or change viewing angles by loosening one or the other black knobs on the monitor mounting bracket and adjusting the angle to suit your needs. Be sure to tighten both knobs when done making any adjustments Using the cable clips, run the cable from the monitor to the control box by placing the clips on the top or sides of the quilt machine making sure it is out of the way of the thread. The monitor cable plugs into the control box monitor cable, the plug is keyed so it should only fit one way. When placing the cable clips make sure they are out of the way of your thread pathway. Plug the power supply into the power cable coming out of the control box. Then plug the power supply into a power outlet. You may want to tape the power cable to your quilt machine's power cord to keep things clean. Your installation of the QuiltCam is complete and is now ready for you to use.
To use your QuiltCam Make sure your QuiltCam in plugged in and make sure your quilt machine is turned on. On the front of the control box you will find a silver and green button, push the button to turn the system on, and push the button again to turn it off. A green light around the button will turn on when the system in on and powered up. If the light does not come on and the button is pushed in, make sure the power supply is plugged in at both locations. Once the control box is turned on, push the little silver button on the bottom right hand side of the video monitor to turn on the video monitor. Happy quilting.
