1 Relativity Objects Relativity cntains tw kinds f bjects: System bjects and Relativity Dynamic Objects (RDOs). Bth kinds, cllectively called bjects, are the building blcks f Relativity applicatins. Objects cnnect tgether, whether implicitly resulting frm a wrkflw, r explicitly by yu defining the cnnectins. Thrugh these cnnectins r links, yu extend functinality by string data and making efficient use f its rganizatin. Yu can attach many kinds f bjects t additinal features r functinality, such as bject rules and event handlers. By attaching bjects t additinal features yu can intrduce custm features specific t yur needs. As an example f using bjects t extend data reach, frm within a wrkspace, yu can create yur wn RDO fr string custdian infrmatin, including nt nly custdian names but als their emails, sent and received dates, and recipients. This infrmatin can then link t ther dcuments r fr greater granularity in srting, searching, r listing thse dcuments. This page cntains the fllwing sectins: System bjects belw Relativity Dynamic Objects (RDOs) Prgrammatically using Relativity bjects and RDOs n the next page 1.1 System bjects System bjects are bjects that cme with Relativity applicatins by default. They are predefined bjects that either lad during installatin r Relativity autmatically creates during a prcess. They include items such as wrkspaces, dcuments, fields, and OCR sets. Hwever, Relativity sets their capabilities and yu cannt change the design f them. Fr example, a system bject may limit the number f fields that attach t it, r prhibit adding event handlers and bject rules. 1.2 Relativity Dynamic Objects (RDOs) RDOs are bjects yu define. Yu can set their capabilities, manage data links t ther bjects, and incrprate additinal features including attaching event handlers and bject rules. Yu create RDOs in a wrkspace. See Creating and editing Relativity Objects n the next page. Read a scenari fr Relativity Dynamic Objects Using Relativity Dynamic Objects Imagine yu're a system admin and yur firm's latest case invlves email exchanges between many peple with varius rles at many different cmpanies. The lead attrney appraches yu with ideas fr rganizing all the custdians, their cmpanies, and their varius rles within thse cmpanies. Yu decide t use RDOs t stre infrmatin abut a custdian by creating a custdian bject. This bject stres infrmatin abut the custdian - their name, cmpany, rle, start date, and s n. Relativity Creating Relativity Dynamic Objects - 5

Yu then cnnect the custdian bject t any related bjects such as the dcument and cmpany bjects in the fllwing example. Using bjects in yur wrkspace helps keep items rganized in yur dc set. 1.3 Prgrammatically using Relativity bjects and RDOs Yu can als create and use bjects prgrammatically with the Services API. Fr infrmatin abut prgrammatically wrking with bjects, see Using the Services API n the Relativity 9.5 Develpers site. 2 Creating and editing Relativity Objects RDOs are bject types that yu create and manage frm within any Relativity applicatin. They help prcess and rganize data. Fr example, yu can assign infrmatin t them and create new data structures. Yu can als attach external applicatins such as event handlers and rules t extend their functinality. A cnfirmatin dialg displays. If the bject has any dependencies, the Dependencies buttn is active. 5. Click Delete. Fr every Relativity bject, yu can view details abut it, as well as change certain characteristics such as permitting pivt r sampling. Sme bjects may have additinal restrictins r allwances, such as assciating them with event handlers, bject rules, and mass peratins. The fllwing screen sht shws a typical Objects details page. The bjects details page appears in ne f tw ways: When yu create a new bject. The details page appears after yu click Save n the Object Type frm fr a newly created bject. See Creating an bject frm a wrkspace n the previus page Relativity Creating Relativity Dynamic Objects - 8

Frm the bjects list. Click the bject's name frm the Object Type bject list. Clicking Edit partially displays the details page, but the additinal actins f event handlers, rules, r mass peratins d nt appear. The infrmatin page displays in tw parts. The first part displays the Actin bar near the tp f the page fllwed by several categries abut the bject type settings. Yu can use the Actin buttns near the tp f this page t perfrm these tasks: Edit - edits certain bject type details. Yu can't change sme details after yu create an bject. Delete - remves the bject type frm Relativity. After yu click Delete, a cnfirmatin message appears. If the bject has dependencies, that is, the bject uses r links with ther bjects, the Dependencies buttn is active. See Deleting bject dependencies n page 24. Back - redirects yu back t the Object Type list page. Edit Permissins - pens a windw that lets yu set access rights n the bject. These rights mdify nly the security fr the current bject. The bject is secured with the fllwing default rights: If yu created the bject within a wrkspace, it inherits wrkspace-level rights, unless it inherits permissins frm a parent bject. If yu created the bject within Hme, it inherits the client rights, unless it inherits permissins frm a parent bject. See the Admin guide fr mre infrmatin n security. View Audit - displays the update histry fr the bject type. The secnd part displays additinal actins that yu can attach t the RDO. Nt all RDOs will have additinal actins, and nly the available actins appear. Befre adding any actins, cnsult yur system admin. When present, yu can attach the fllwing actins: Event Handlers - adds special functinality r cnditins t layuts. See Adding an event handler n page 11. Rules - adds special functinality r cnditins with user cnfigurable ptins t layuts. See Adding an bject rule n page 12. Mass Operatins - prvides the ability t add functinality fr mass peratins using mass peratin handlers r custm pages. See Adding a custm mass peratin n page 22. 2.5 Fields fr an bject type When creating r editing an bject, the bject type frm cntains the fllwing fields: Relativity Creating Relativity Dynamic Objects - 9

Name - the name f the bject. Parent Object Type - select the bject type the bject links t. That is, the bject that yu are creating is a child f the selected bject type. The list f available parent bjects displays in the drp-dwn menu. Dynamic - indicates whether yu can extend an bject by adding fields, views, and ther items. It's set t Yes fr Dcument bjects and all RDOs. It's set t N fr system bjects, excluding Dcument bjects. Enable Snapsht Auditing On Delete - captures audit infrmatin abut the values stred in bject fields. The fllwing ptins are available: Yes - the default setting, which results in Relativity capturing a snapsht f the current field values fr the bject. By capturing this data, the size f the delete audit recrd increases, but the field values are available when querying the wrkspace histry. N - indicates that Relativity deletes the bject withut capturing its field values. Pivt - enables r disables pivt functinality n the bject. The default value is Enabled, which displays the Pivt icn n the bject tab. Pivt runs n nly the bject fields when enabled. Select Disabled t remve the icn frm the bject tab. Sampling - determines if sampling functinality is enabled n the bject yu are creating r editing. The default is Enabled fr a new RDO. It is als enabled fr the Dcument bject, which means yu can create a sample f dcuments fr QC purpses using the settings in the sampling menu. The ptins are: Relativity Creating Relativity Dynamic Objects - 10

Disabled - hides the sampling menu n the bject yu are creating r editing. Enabled - displays the sampling menu n the bject yu are creating r editing. Enabled - makes the Persistent Lists icn available n the bject yu are creating r editing. Cpy Instances On Wrkspace Creatin - determines whether Relativity cpies instance f an bject when yu create a wrkspace. Relativity cpies RDOs frm the template wrkspace regardless f this field's value. Cpy Instances On Wrkspace Creatin nly cntrls whether r nt Relativity cpies bject instances t the new wrkspace. Cnsider the fllwing when setting this value: If the template wrkspace cntains an bject with Cpy Instances On Wrkspace Creatin set t Yes, but ne f its assciative bjects has this same field set t N, the instances are unlinked frm the bject. The new wrkspace cpies the bject type, but nne f the instances. An instance f an bject type desn't cpy if its parent bject is set t N. An instance f an bject type desn't cpy if its parent bject cntains a File field. Yu can't cpy instances if the template wrkspace cntains an bject that is assciated with a Dcument bject. Cpy Instances On Parent Cpy - cpies all child bjects when the parent bject is cpied. This ptin nly cpies child bjects that d nt have Wrkspace as their parent bject. This ptin is als disabled n parent bjects. Yes - cpies all child bjects if the parent bject is cpied. N - des nt cpy any child bjects attached t the parent bject. Relativity Applicatins - assciates the bject type with an applicatin created n the Relativity Applicatins tab. Click the ellipsis ( ) buttn t select an existing applicatin. T use this ptin, yu must have the permissin Manage Relativity Applicatins in the Admin Operatins sectin f the Security page. Keywrds - filters n the bject type in a view, as well as fr ther identificatin purpses. Ntes - enter additinal cmments abut the bject type. 2.6 Adding an event handler An event handler is a prcess r actin that attaches t an RDO. The event handler permits special r additinal functins but withut user cnfigurable ptins. It intrduces restrictins, limitatins, r additin actins. It activates explicitly n a user event, such as clicking a specific buttn, r implicitly such as receiving a message r encunters a data limitatin. Yu may need t cnsult yur system admin fr additinal infrmatin. Yu can add an event handler at the time yu create an RDO r edit an bject. T add an event handler: 1. Create an RDO r see the Creating and editing Relativity Objects n page 6 sectin. 2. Click New in the Event Handlers categry n the Object Type Details page. The Select Event Handlers dialg appears. An example is the New Buttn Override that redirects an bject's New buttn actin t anther Relativity page r ther URL as directed by the user. Permissins dn't cntrl restrictins r allwances granted by an bject rule. Fr example, if the bject rule Mass Actin Visibility hides the Edit ptin in the Mass Actins menu, adjusting permissins desn't make that ptin visible. In the same way, if that rule shws the Edit ptin, remving permissins desn't hide it. T add an bject rule: 1. Create an RDO r display the Creating and editing Relativity Objects n page 6 page. 2. Click New in the Rules categry. The Add New Rule dialg displays. 3. Select the Rule Type. Each Rule Type has a unique set f cnditins r cnfiguratin listed individually. 4. After yu click Save, the Class Name clumn in the Mass peratins sectin displays the class cntaining the cde fr the handler. The Applicatin Name clumn displays the applicatin dmain where the assembly cntaining the class fr handler has been laded. 2.9 Adding infrmatin t bjects Yu can add infrmatin t Dynamic Objects in the same way yu add infrmatin t dcuments in Relativity. In additin, yu can exprt this infrmatin t an external file using the Relativity Desktp Client. A new bject has defaults fr fields, a view, and a layut. Yu can add fields t Dynamic Objects and place thse fields n layuts and views. T learn mre abut adding infrmatin t bjects, see the fllwing in the Admin guide: Fields Layuts Views 3 Deleting bject dependencies Deleting bject dependencies remves that bject's interactins, r dependencies, frm ther bjects. Because the purpse f bjects is t interact with ther bjects, there may be a certain Relativity Creating Relativity Dynamic Objects - 24

amunt f dependencies. Mst are created at the time the bject is initially instantiated, althugh yu can add sme later, either implicitly as a result f a wrkflw, r manually adding ne, such as an event handler. Hwever, deleting sme dependencies may have unexpected effects n ther bjects. T mitigate thse effects, Relativity may display a dependencies reprt, and asks yu t cnfirm befre deleting. Yu als need t have the crrect level f permissins. See yur system admin fr additin details. With the Delete Object Dependencies permissin, yu can frce delete the current bject, which includes deleting its children and unlinking assciative bjects. 3.1 Frce deleting bject dependencies The ptin t delete bject dependencies appears nly when yu have the crrespnding delete bject dependencies security permissin. See the Admin guide fr mre infrmatin n Security Permissins. Befre yu frce delete an bject, yu shuld: View a reprt listing the affected bjects by clicking Dependencies. Fr mre infrmatin, see Displaying and interpreting the dependencies reprt belw. Think abut the fields f the selected bject befre frcing a delete. Fr mre infrmatin, see Cnsidering the fields f frce deleted bjects n the next page. T frce delete ne r mre dcuments r RDOs: 1. Navigate t the parent r child tab f the bject yu want t delete. 2. Click the name f the single bject that yu want t delete, and then click Delete n the bject details page. If yu want t mass delete bjects, select the items yu want t delete, and then select Delete frm the mass peratins menu. See the Admin guide fr mre infrmatin n Mass delete. 3. Click Delete t remve the bject and its children and t unlink assciative bjects. Nte: If the Delete buttn is disabled, then yu dn't have the security permissin Delete Object Dependencies. See the Admin guide fr mre infrmatin n Security Permissins. Fr infrmatin abut prgrammatically deleting dependent bjects, see RDO in DTO reference and cde samples n the Relativity 9.5 Develpers site. 3.2 Displaying and interpreting the dependencies reprt The dependencies reprt helps yu understand hw deleting an bject affects its child and assciative bjects. Yu can run this reprt befre deleting an bject r grup f bjects t determine hw this peratin changes yur wrkspace. The dependencies reprt is available fr wrkspace-level bjects in Relativity, including dcuments. Yu can display this reprt when yu delete a single bject r perfrm a mass delete peratin. Relativity Creating Relativity Dynamic Objects - 25

T display the dependencies reprt, click Dependencies in the Delete Object Type dialg. If the bject(s) yu're trying t delete desn't have any children r assciative bjects, the Dependencies buttn is disabled. The dependencies reprt displays a list f the bject's child and assciative bjects as well as a cunt f each bject type. Use Relativity's filter, srt, and page features t manage yur reprt results. Yu can als mass exprt the reprt results t an Excel file. See the Admin guide fr mre infrmatin n Mass exprt t file. A dependency reprt cntains the fllwing fields: Object Type - identifies child and assciative bjects that have a dependency n the selected bject. Actin - displays Delete fr child bjects and Unlink fr mst assciative bjects. When yu frce delete the selected bject, Relativity autmatically perfrms these actins n child and assciative bjects. Cunt - indicates the number f bject instances fr each bject type dependency n the selected bject. Cnnectin - indicates the type f dependency that exists between the selected bject and the bject type listed in the reprt. 3.3 Cnsidering the fields f frce deleted bjects The dependencies reprt prvides infrmatin abut the relatinship between the selected bject and ther child r assciative bjects. Hwever, it desn't list bjects that reference the fields n the selected bject because they're nt identified as children r linked by assciatin. When yu frce delete an bject, Relativity may mdify the cntent f the bject s fields r delete them. Because ther bjects may reference these fields, make sure that yu have a clear understanding f hw they're used in Relativity. The fllwing examples illustrate hw the frce delete f an bject affects references t its fields. 3.3.1 Analytics categrizatin set example When yu create a categrizatin set, Relativity generates a Categry Set Result field, which users can add t searches, views, and pivt prfiles. If yu frce delete the categrizatin set, the Categry Set Result field becmes blank. As a result, any saved searches referencing this field are blank, and any views using this field as a cnditin n lnger list it. 3.3.2 Search terms reprts example Relativity generates a Search Terms Results field when yu create a search terms reprt. Yu can use terms frm the search terms reprt t create a persistent highlight set. If yu frce delete the search terms reprt, Relativity als deletes the Search Terms Results field, and the viewer n Relativity Creating Relativity Dynamic Objects - 26

lnger displays persistent highlights based n the search terms reprt. In this case, the persistent highlight set still references the Search Terms Results field, but it desn't cntain any results. 4 Creating a questin bject Custdians can have multiple dcuments linked t them, but dcuments can have nly ne custdian. This is a ne-t-many relatinship many dcuments t ne custdian.
