Instructions for Ring Automotive Borescope Inspection Camera (RBS100, 200, 300) 1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS This manual contains important information about the operation of this product. Failure to comply with the instructions can cause electric shock, fire or serious injury. Responsibility will not be accepted for damage to persons or property caused by failure to follow the operating instructions. Always use appropriate protective equipment such as safety glasses and gloves while handling and using the inspection camera. Only the inspection probe is waterproof, do not expose the main display unit to moisture. Do not immerse the inspection probe in more than 90 cm of liquid. Observe the marking on the flexible shaft for this purpose. Do not stare directly into the LED light. Do not place the inspection camera anywhere that may contain a high voltage or moving parts. Do not expose the device to excessive mechanical stress or vibration. Do not bend the flexible shaft further than the specified minimum bending radius shown in the specification. Do not use this device for personal inspection or medical use in any way. This is not a medical device and such use could cause personal injury. Always ensure equipment or machinery is switched off before inspection. Exposure of batteries to high temperatures can cause them to explode. 2. KIT CONTENTS A. Inspection Camera & Display B. 4. BATTERY INSTALLATION & CHARGING The unit is supplied with either 4 x AA batteries (RBS100/200) or a rechargeable battery pack (RBS300). When the low battery indicator illuminates red, the batteries must either be replaced or charged. 4.1 Battery Installation (RBS100/200) Loosen the security screw and open the battery compartment Remove the battery holder and fit 4 x AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity Slide battery holder back into position, close cover and tighten security screw 4.2 Battery Charging (RBS300) Before charging ensure the unit is switched off, it cannot be operated whilst being charged. Charging from AC adapter Connect the charger output lead to the mini USB port (12) Plug the charger into the wall socket and switch on During charging the low battery/charging indicator (4) will illuminate amber When charging is complete the charging indicator will go out, this can take up to 7 hours Charging from USB Connect one end of the USB lead (C) to a PC and the other end to the devices mini USB port (12) During charging the low battery/charging indicator (4) will illuminate amber When charging is complete the charging indicator will go out, this can take up to 7 hours 5. OPERATION 5.1 Switching On/Off BEFORE USING THE UNIT FOR THE FIRST TIME: Ensure the time and date have been set (see section 5.4.2) Ensure the SD card is inserted (see section 5.5.1) Press the ON/OFF button (7) to switch the device on. 5.2 Camera Illumination The inspection camera is equipped with a dimmable LED light in the camera head, which can be adjusted using the navigation/brightness keys (8) RBS100 Press to increase brightness Press to reduce brightness RBS200/300 Press to increase brightness Press to reduce brightness 5.3 Rotating the display RBS100 Press the & buttons together to rotate the display by 180 o RBS200/300 Press the button to rotate the display by 180 o 5.4 Menu Options (RBS200/300) The menu options are accessed by pressing the MENU/OK button (9) To move up/down the menu press keys To select a menu item press the MENU/OK button (9) Select to return to the previous menu or exit the menu options Switch between Advance Setting or Set Time/Date menu by pressing keys Advanced Setting Movie Quality TV Output Standard File Overwrite Setting Language Select Contrast or Set Time/Date Set Time/Date Photo TimeStamp Movie TimeStamp Auto Power Off 5
5.4.1 Advanced Settings Movie Quality Sets the recording quality for the Video function Movie Quality QVGA D1 Select QVGA for 320 x 240 resolution Select D1 for 720 x 480 resolution A higher resolution setting will improve video quality but will take up more storage space TV Output Standard Allows selection of the appropriate video standard when connecting to a TV/Display or Recording device using the Video connection (14) TV Output Standard NTSC PAL Select NTSC or PAL. The normal setting for most European countries is PAL. Overwriting Files File Overwrite Setting On Off This function is useful when the SD card is nearly full. Selecting On will allow files to be overwritten to save space on the SD card Selecting Off will not allow files to be overwritten, all files will be saved to SD card Language Selection Allows the language to be set for the menu functions. Use the navigation keys to select from the languages available 6
Auto Power Off Auto Power Off On Off Selecting On will allow the unit to power down if it has not been used for 10 minutes. This helps to prolong battery life. 5.5 Camera & Video Operation (RBS200/300) 5.5.1 Inserting SD card Before using the camera or video function an SD card must be inserted into the card slot Note:- Card must be inserted with contacts facing upwards SD 01/01/2010 00:07:48 Then screen will then show the SD card icon 5.5.2 Taking a Picture Press the camera button (11) to take a picture 5.5.3 Recording a Video 3 Secs Press and hold the camera button (11) for 3 seconds to record a video Press camera button to stop recording 5.5.4 Zoom function Allows a picture to be increased in size from x1 to x3 Repeatedly press the zoom key (10) to zoom in 20% steps 8
5.6 Image Management (RBS200/300) Press the Power button briefly to enter file management mode, the latest stored picture or video will be displayed. Press power button again to exit file management mode. 5.7 Video Output The inspection camera is equipped with a video output, so the image may be viewed on a larger display and recorded if required Connect video cable (B) between camera output (14) and AV input on display Switch on camera and select video input channel on the display Camera picture will then be displayed 5.8 Transferring files to a computer (RBS200/300) Connect USB cable (C) between camera output (12) and computer Switch on camera, computer will then detect unit as a removable disk Files can now be copied over to computer as required 6. ACCESSORIES 6.1 Clip-on tools (RBS100/200) The inspection camera is supplied with a hook, mirror and magnet tool to aid inspection and component retrieval Ensure the tool is securely clipped onto the camera head before using WARNING: Do not use excessive force to insert or retrieve probe when using clip-on tools, no responsibility will be accepted for tools disconnecting during use. 6.2 Connecting/Disconnecting camera (RBS300) To replace or upgrade the camera probe, it can be easily be removed First loosen the locking screw, then remove the flexible probe Push the new camera into position and re-tighten locking screw 11
6.3 Extending camera reach (RBS300) The maximum reach of the camera can be extended by fitting the 3 metre extension probe. A maximum of three extension probes can be added, to create a viewing reach of up to 10 metres. (Part No: RBSEP3) 6.4 Hanging Hook A hanging hook (D) is provided to help safe storage of the unit 7. MAINTENANCE & CLEANING Discharged batteries should not be left in the device, as they may corrode and cause damage. Remove the batteries when the device will not be used for long periods of time. Damaged batteries can cause irritation after contact with skin, always wear suitable gloves and protective glasses. Clean the device with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasive or chemical cleaning agents. Rinse the flexible shaft thoroughly with clean water after use and dry well 8. RECYCLING This product may not be disposed of together with domestic waste in compliance with the (2002/96/EC) Regulation relating to waste electrical and electronic devices (WEEE). This product must be handed in at a designated collection point. Information on collecting points for waste equipment can be obtained from your public waste disposal authority. 12
