PAGE: Page 1 of 8 Installation Instructions USB Driver and Firmware Update Version 2.0.101 Follow these instructions to update your Sierra Ascent software from version 2.0.100 to 2.0.101. If you need assistance in performing this update, please contact the Cadwell Application Support department at (800) 245-3001 or (509) 735-6481. This update will install a new USB Driver and new Firmware for the following devices: Keyboard Controller StimTroller Handle Controller Electrical Stimulator & FailSafe Controllers Data Acquisition Controller The purpose of these updated is to address USB disconnect/reconnect issues with the Ascent Base Unit. The update should be installed on both Ascent acquisition and Reader systems. You must be logged in to the computer with full Administrator permissions in order to properly update the Sierra Ascent software. You should also temporarily disable anti-virus and internet security programs before performing the update, as these programs can interfere with the installation of the software drivers. The Ascent program should be closed. For acquisition systems the base unit should be connected and powered On and all StimTrollers connected.
PAGE: Page 2 of 8 Step 1: Copy the Self-Extracting file to Your Desktop and Extract 1. Download or copy the Ascent v2.0.101 update file (Ascent v2.0.101 Update.exe) to your desktop. 2. Once copied to your desktop, double-click the file to launch the self-extractor. 3. From the window that appears (as shown below), click the Unzip button. 4. After extraction has completed, click OK on the window that appears to continue. 5. The self-extractor automatically creates a folder on your desktop containing the extracted files. Double-click on this folder to open it.
PAGE: Page 3 of 8 Step 2: Start the Installation 1. To begin installing the update, double-click the SierraPatchInstaller.exe, as shown above. The following installer menu will launch: 2. Select the Install Sierra Ascent Patch option to continue. The following message will appear. Before clicking OK, make sure that: The Sierra Ascent base unit is powered on* All StimTrollers are connected to the base unit*
PAGE: Page 4 of 8 Sierra Ascent software is not running (the Ascent program is closed). When these items have been confirmed, click OK to proceed to driver installation. Step 3: Update the USB Device Drivers 1. Once the update has initialized, the device driver installation will automatically launch. Click the Next > button to begin installing the USB device driver. This may take a couple minutes. During this time, you may hear the USB disconnect and reconnect sounds, this is normal. 2. Once the driver install completes, click the Finish button to proceed to the firmware update utility.
PAGE: Page 5 of 8 Step 4: Perform Firmware Update 1. The following warning will appear after finishing the USB device driver installation: Follow the instructions provided, then click OK. 2. A list of the controllers on your Sierra Ascent will display.
PAGE: Page 6 of 8 *NOTE: if the update is being installed on a Reader station, click the Close button and proceed to step 5.1. *NOTE: the above example shows all possible controllers that might appear on this menu. Your display may contain only some of those listed above. Two asterisks (**) appearing before the name of the listed devices denotes controllers for which a new supported firmware version is available. i.e. The KeyboardController 30 above has a Current FW Version of 1.02, but there is a 2.00 Supported FW Version available for update. Simply click on a device to select it, then click the Update Selected button to proceed. 3. The following screen will display during the update:
PAGE: Page 7 of 8 Once the update has successfully completed with an update success window. Confirm and repeat steps 2-3 to update the remaining controllers. 4. After you have finished updating the controllers, verify that no more asterisks precede device names and double check that the Current FW Version and Supported FW Version columns match for each device, as depicted below.
PAGE: Page 8 of 8 5. Once all devices have been updated with the latest firmware version, click Close to exit out of the updater. NOTE: the DataAcqController may take a few moments longer than the other devices to reflect the update on the above screen. Step 5: Verify the Version of Ascent As a final precaution, check that the version of Sierra Ascent installed is now 2.0.101. To check this: 1. Open the Sierra Ascent application. 2. Login with your credentials. 3. From the Help Menu, select About Sierra. 4. Make sure the version number next to the Ascent logo toward the top of the window reflects 2.0.101, as shown below.
