DATA SHEET SWITCHING H3C S5120-EI SERIES GIGABIT ETHERNET SWITCHES S5120-24P-EI S5120-28C-EI S5120-28C-PWR-EI S5120-48P-EI S5120-52C-EI S5120-52C-PWR-EI OVERVIEW H3C S5120-EI Series Gigabit Ethernet Switches are Layer 3 Ethernet switches that support diversified services, enable IPv6 forwarding and provide up to four 10 Gigabit Ethernet extended interfaces. Unique Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF ) technology simplifies network management by enabling interconnected switches to be managed as a single common fabric with one IP address; this increases network resilience, performance and availability while simultaneously reducing operational complexity as well. These switches provide Gigabit Ethernet access and can be used at the edge of a network or to connect server clusters in data centers. The H3C S5120-EI switch series is comprised of six models: S5120-24P-EI: Features 24 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports and 4 combo SFP GE Combo ports. S5120-48P-EI: Features 48 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports and 4 combo SFP GE Combo ports. S5120-28C-EI: Features 24 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports, 4 combo SFP GE Combo ports and 2 expansion slots. S5120-52C-EI: Features 48 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports, 4 combo SFP GE Combo ports and 2 expansion slots. S5120-28C-PWR-EI: Features 24 10/100/1000Base-T PoE Ethernet ports, 4 combo SFP GE Combo ports and 2 expansion slots. S5120-52C-PWR-EI: Features 48 10/100/1000Base-T PoE Ethernet ports, 4 combo SFP GE Combo ports and 2 expansion slots. FEATURES High Scalability Provides Investment Protection S5120-EI Series switches support two expansion slots, each of which can support two-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet expansion modules. By configuring these to 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections, you can future-proof your network from obsolescence and maximize your infrastructure investment. S5120-EI Series Gigabit Ethernet Switches also support IPv4 and IPv6 Layer 3 static routing, as well as IPv4 and IPv6 forwarding at full line-speed on hardware. Additionally, IPv6 access control list (ACL) and network management system (NMS) support ensure a smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6. IRF H3C S5120-EI Series Gigabit Ethernet Switches support IRF, which provides a powerful advantage in terms of scalability, reliability, overall architecture and availability: Resilient scalability: IRF technology creates a virtual switching fabric by enabling switches to be expanded to multiple devices through interconnected cables. The distributed nature of IRF technology takes full advantage of the high-performance, non-blocking switching capacity of each switch in the distributed fabric to yield an aggregate forwarding capacity. High availability: IRF distributed link aggregation technology supports load sharing and mutual backup of multiple uplinks, increasing redundancy of the whole network architecture as well as utilization of link resources. Specifically, aggregated links that are dual-homed across the switches in the distributed fabric eliminate single points of failure should a port in the aggregated link fail, traffic is forwarded via the remaining ports. This maximizes network resilience and availability, and minimizes downtime. Simplified management: IRF s virtual fabric enables all interconnected switches to be managed with a single IP address and interface; and, in the event of a failure in one of the switches, management access to the remaining switches is retained on the same IP address. IRF technology also provides unprecedented levels of management across switches in the distributed fabric by providing plug-and-play setup, and synchronous, fabric-wide configuration and upgrade of all management, system and port features. This facilitates network management while simultaneously reducing the expense of network upgrades and expansion. Furthermore, IRF supports management via the command line interface (CLI), Web interface or Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

2 H3C S5120-EI SERIES GIGABIT ETHERNET SWITCHES FEATURES (continued) Support for Multiple Services H3C S5120-EI Series switches support Power over Ethernet (PoE) and voice virtual LAN (VLAN) technology; the latter enables these switches to automatically detect voice traffic and expedite its passage across the network. This optimizes bandwidth for time-sensitive information and effectively prevents the impact of abrupt data streams on voice streams. PoE which enables the transmission of data and power over the same cable facilitates deployment of network-attached devices where providing separate power cabling would be prohibitive. By supporting both PoE and voice VLAN technology, S5120-EI Series switches deliver a comprehensive device management solution that deals more effectively with many issues related to intelligent detection, power supply and priority adjustment for providing services such as IP telephony, video-on-demand and streaming multimedia. Comprehensive Security Control Policies H3C S5120-EI switches provide endpoint admission defense (EAD), which integrates terminal security measures such as anti-virus and patch repair with network security measures such as network access control and access rights control. EAD can monitor, in real-time, the use of USB peripherals, such as mass storage devices, at the desktop; tracking the asset owner, asset number, the time it is plugged and unplugged, and the name and size of any files copied, enabling the easy tracking of potential data leakage activities. By detecting, isolating, repairing, managing and monitoring network access terminals, EAD converts a passive defense into an active defense, single-point defense into comprehensive defense, and decentralized management into centralized management according to policy, as well as enhances defenses against emerging threats such as viruses and worms. Additional security provisions include support for 802.1x authentication and centralized media access control (MAC) address authentication, which controls network access rights of users according to ports and MAC addresses. These switches also provide guest VLAN functions that enable authorized users to access specified resources and obtain corresponding policies. For example, guests may be able to access the Internet, but not your internal network. This maintains the privacy of your mission-critical data. Support for SSHv2 guarantees information security by providing powerful authentication measures that prevent network attacks such as IP address spoofing and interception of plain-text passwords. Diversified Quality of Service Policies Quality of service (QoS) is an advanced traffic prioritization feature that preserves network performance as the amount of traffic increases by enabling you to assign various grades of service to different types of traffic. QoS features supported by H3C S5120-EI Series Gigabit Ethernet Switches include packet filtering at Layers 2 to 4 as well as traffic classification based on source MAC addresses, destination MAC addresses, source IP addresses, destination IP addresses, TCP/UDP port numbers, protocol types and VLANs. S5120-EI switches also support flexible queue scheduling including SP, SDWRR and SP+SDWRR, and committed access rates (CARs) with a minimum granularity of up to 64 Kbps, in addition to port mirroring, traffic mirroring and RSPAN. Excellent Manageability These switches offer a range of management protocols to simplify network administration, including Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) v1/v2/v3, Open View, the H3C Intelligent Management Center (IMC) single-pane centralized management platform, CLI, Web-based NMS, Telnet and HGMPv2. Another management function of H3C S5120-EI switches is enabling VLANs to be classified by their MAC addresses; this provides intelligent and flexible management of a mobile office s resources in conjunction with ACL policies based on global VLANs, it optimizes hardware resources while simplifying user configuration.

In the example below, the core, convergence, and access layer each utilize innovative IRF technology to manage multiple devices as one logical entity without changing the original network topology. This simplifies network topology, services and management, increases reliability by a factor of 1:N, and optimizes network performance and availability.
