Create a College Student Account with IHaveaPlanIowa 1) Go to www.ihaveaplaniowa.gov. 2) Find the Create an Account link on the top right hand side of the page. On the Create an Account screen click. on the right side of the screen. On the next screen, choose the role of from the menu by selecting Go. Page 1 of 9
3) Click DO NOT check this box. 4) Select Kirkwood Community College then select 5) You will be returned to this screen. Now click Page 2 of 9
ACCOUNT NAME AND PASSWORD 6) Enter your first and last name 7) Enter the year you plan on graduating. If you are not in school select any year. 8) Enter your e-mail address. If you do not have an e-mail address, then enter your e-mail address as follows firstname.lastname@noname.com (i.e. john.smith@noname.com). check this box. -OR- Record your e-mail address here: 9) Create an account name and password. You will need these every time you login. Notice that your account name automatically fills in. For example, if your name is John Smith, your account name will be john.smith@iowaid. 10) Now, create a password and enter the same password in both password boxes to make sure you typed it correctly. Passwords must contain between 8-12 alphanumeric characters. You must use a mix of upper and lower case. Password Example: Kirkwood09 Note: you may not use pieces of your name or e-mail address in your password RECORD YOUR ACCOUNT NAME AND PASSWORD NOW. Account Name: @iowaid Password: Page 3 of 9
11) Under IMPORT A CHOICES PORTFOLIO TO YOUR ACCOUNT, choose 12) Check the box to indicate you have read and agree to the privacy policy and terms of use of this site. 13) Select the button. 14) Once you have created your account, you will see the screen to your right. Select 15) Enter your Account ID (Account Name) ex: john.smith@iowaid and Password (ex: Kirkwood09). After entering these items, select the button. DO NOT check Page 4 of 9
16) Next, create questions to establish your account. This will help you retrieve your account name and password should you ever forget them. After entering the questions and answers, choose the Save Identity Baseline button. 17) When you receive the Your Account has been Successfully Created screen, select 18) You will now be taken to IHaveaPlanIowa and can begin planning your career. 19) Click on Career Planning to take the Learn About Yourself assessments; take advantage of Explore Careers; and connect to the Iowa Connections job links. 20) Select the link to take the seven (7) career assessments. 21) You may begin each assessment by clicking on the link for the assessment you want to complete. Do the Interest Profiler, Work Values Sorter and Transferable Skills Checklist assessments first. You may complete the last 4 assessments in any order. Print the results of each assessment as you finish them. Be sure to bring the printed results to the next one-on-one meeting with your counselor. 22) When you take the Ability Profiler assessment, you must use the password begin. This assessment is timed, so make sure you have enough time to finish the entire assessment. Page 6 of 9
23) In the Interest Profiler, you will be given three choices as answers. DO NOT mark, as that answer does not help sort out the careers for you. 24) You can search careers by individual or by career clusters (i.e. you can search animal trainer, or for a list of all the Agriculture careers, under click on Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.) 25) After completing the assessments, you may click on the Career Finder Link located on the right hand side of the Career Planning page. 26) On the Career Finder page, you can click on the names of the assessments you already completed, plus any other items of interest to you and the program will develop a list of possible best-fit careers for you to research. 27) If you look down the left side of the screen, you will see a list of career characteristics from which you may choose. These characteristics are used to narrow down the list of possible careers according to the information you have already entered into the program about yourself. Page 7 of 9
28) Check out the Off to Work link for resources on how to get a job and for links to employment opportunities. 29) The College Planning link is a great place to check out colleges and majors throughout the United States. 30) The Financial Aid Planning link will give you information on financial assistance for college. 31) Final Notes: You may leave the program and return at any time. Make sure you keep these directions and write down your Account Name and Password so you can access the program again.
