Revision History ISSUE DATE REASON FOR CHANGE Issue 0/9 Updated to current standard format. GENERAL.0 This User Manual contains descriptions and information for the ADC Patch by Exception Modular Jackfields (PEMJ). These jackfields are designed to furnish circuit continuity through modular jackfields for customer equipment operating over unshielded twisted pair (UTP) facilities..0 The PEMJ modular jack design provides patch cord access to monitor and test 00-ohm balanced transmission systems using a common signal format and bit rate. The patch cord access allows the user to reconfigure and change systems to meet service requirements..0 The two types of Patch by Exception Modular Jackfields described in this manual are the -port -wire and the -port -wire jackfields shown in Figure. -000-00 Page 99, ADC Telecommunications, Inc.

DESCRIPTION A. Functional Description.0 The Patch by Exception Jackfields (PEMJ) described in this user manual are designed for use with -wire and -wire unshielded twisted pair (UTP) networks. The and modular jacks in the PEMJ panels furnish through circuit connections for network protocols and wiring schemes without the use of patch cords..0 The modular and jacks also provide patch cord access for to reroute faulty operating facilities and for system assignment changes. UTP (unshielded twisted pair) patch cords are required for these functions..0 The modular jacks provide patch cord access to 00-ohm balanced transmission systems for test and monitor functions. Access to balanced systems having a common signal format and DS (. Mbps) and DSC (. Mbps) bit rates is also provided. The modular jacks, in each jackfield, have been tested for reliable operation in systems with digital signaling exceeding 0 Mbps..0 The modular jackfields are recommended for use with 0 Mbps Ethernet facilities, for Token Ring applications at or Mbps, and for T or ISDN service circuits with bit rates up to 0 Mbps..0 All transmission lines, terminal equipment, and voice circuits are terminated to the modular jackfield via connector terminations mounted to the rear of the jackfield assembly. A functional diagram of the assembly wiring is shown on Figure. Page 99, ADC Telecommunications, Inc.

ADCP-0-00 Issue, October 99.0 The PEMJ assemblies are designed for the different wiring schemes used on the networks. The and modular jacks and 0-pin connectors, mounted on the printed circuit board panels, are wired to serve specific network protocols or wiring schemes without the use of patch cords. Figure shows the modular jack wiring for the various system wiring schemes. The TIA A and TIA B wiring schemes are recommended by the TIA Commercial Building and Wiring Standards Committee. 0 P T R RJ MODULAR JACK A A A A A A A A 0 P T A A A A A A A A R PRTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB) Figure. ADCP-0-00 Issue, October 99 B. Physical Description.0 The PEMJ assembly consists of modular jack panel assemblies mounted to a cold rolled steel front panel 9.00 inches wide and.0 inches high..0 Each jackfield panel assembly consists of a printed circuit board (PCB) with RJ modular jacks mounted to one side of the board and 0-pin connectors mounted to the reverse side. Wiring traces connect the RJ jacks to the 0-pin connectors. A typical printed circuit board for the -circuit -wire jackfield is shown in Figure. Printed circuit board assemblies for the / -wire and the 0Base T--wire jackfields are of similar construction. RJ MODULAR JACKS COMPONENT SIDE FIFTY-P S RJ MODULAR JACKS PC BOARD SOLDER SIDE SIDE VIEW -A Figure. PEMJ Printed Circuit Board (Typical).09 The following are physical descriptions for the PEMJ assemblies covered in this manual: -Port -Wire PEMJ (USOC, TIA A, and TIA B).0 The three PCB panels for each PEMJ assembly are identical in construction. Six -jack RJ jack assemblies are attached to the front, and two self-locking 0-pin connectors are attached to the rear of each PCB. See Figure, which shows a typical -port -wire assembly. Wiring traces connect the RJ modular jacks to the associated 0-pin connectors in accordance with the wiring scheme for the particular type of PEMJ.. Typical jack/connector assignments for the USOC -port -wire PEMJ are provided on Table in Figure.. The three printed circuit boards mounted together in one assembly provide a total of eighteen -wire through-switched connections with patch cord access to each connection. Page 99, ADC Telecommunications, Inc.

ADCP-0-00 Issue, October 99 -Port -Wire PEMJ (MOD /). The MOD / -port -wire PEMJ assembly is equipped with three identical PCBs, each of which has six RJ -jack assemblies on the front and twelve RJ modular jacks in two rows on the rear of each PCB, as shown in Figure. The twelve rear mounted RJ modular jacks and the six front mounted RJ jack assemblies are connected via wire traces. See Panel Wiring (Typical) in Figure. Each PCB assembly provides normal through terminations for six -wire and switched connections and six jack connections. This PEMJ assembly allows the user to change or relocate systems facilities by reterminating connections to the rear mounted RJ modular jack connectors. The front mounted jacks provide through switched connections and patch cord access for circuit changes, monitor, and test access -Port -Wire PEMJ. The 0BASE-T modular jackfield assembly, shown in Figure, has two PCBs, each with twelve RJ -jack assemblies attached to the front and two self-locking 0-pin connectors attached to the rear of each board. Each PCB has RJ modular jacks. Wire traces connect the modular jacks to the 0-pin connectors in accordance with the assignments shown on Table in Figure 9. Each PCB therefore provides twenty-four -wire and normal through connections. The modular jacks also allow patch cord access for test, circuit changes and system monitoring.. The 0BASE-T jackfield PCB assemblies may also have two rear mounted 0 IDC connectors as shown in Figure 0. This type connector provides the facilities to change or relocate equipment using punch down terminals. Patch cord access for system changes is also available through the front mounted RJ modular jacks.. Specifications for the PEMJ assemblies are listed in Table. Page 99, ADC Telecommunications, Inc.

The jackfields are designed for mounting in standard 9-inch equipment racks, in a closet mounted rack, wall mounted with a bracket kit, or installed in an end user work area in an enclosed cabinet..0 The PEMJ assemblies are passive units and do not require power connections..0 All system connections, line and/or equipment, to PEMJ assemblies are terminated to the connectors mounted on the rear assembly..0 Erasable label strips are provided on each PEMJ. The labels provide circuit identification for administration by the user. Page 9 99, ADC Telecommunications, Inc.

ADCP-0-00 Issue, October 99. OPERATION.0 Patch by Exception Modular Jackfields are inserted into the line facilities or wiring systems serving the following equipment: LAN workstations Wiring hubs Concentrators Printers Fax machines T lines Trunk lines Voice circuits.0 These facilities or systems are terminated to the rear mounted and 0-pin connectors, the and RJ modular jacks or the and 0 IDC connectors, as required. The terminations provide normal through circuit connections via the front mounted and RJ modular jacks. When a facility or system is to be relocated or changed, a UPT patch cord is inserted into the port of the modular jack serving the effected service or line. The other end of the patch cord is inserted into the designated modular jack port to establish the new connection..0 The (Monitor) port of each RJ modular jack provides patch cord monitoring access to connected systems. The port is also used as the access port for test equipment..0 All circuit changes or reconfigurations are posted to the erasable labels on the front of the PEMJ assembly.
