Uninstalling the HP ODBC Driver for Windows V. Setting Up the Client Environment VI. Getting the Version of the Driver VII. ODBC API Reference I. The Installation Package =========================== The HP ODBC driver software is available as a downloadable distribution file without an extension on this Web site: http://www.software.hp.com Note that if the downloadable distribution file is provided to you by an HP representative, you can skip the downloading steps in this README. The ODBC client installation file installs or links to multiple client components: This client component... Does this... ------------------------ ------------ Microsoft ODBC Driver Manages access to ODBC drivers for Manager applications. The driver manager loads and unloads drivers and passes calls for ODBC functions to the correct driver. HP ODBC driver Implements ODBC function calls to

enable an ODBC client application to access the database. Microsoft ODBC Administrator ODBC Test application Adds, configures, and removes ODBC data sources on client workstations. Tests ODBC functions. Installation Requirements ------------------------- Computer Memory Disk Space 100% IBM compatible PC workstation. Recommended minimum 32 MB. Minimum 30 MB additional free space. Operating system Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows 2003, or Windows XP. Network software TCP/IP. NOTE: To install the driver, you must be logged on with a user ID that has administrative privileges. II. Installing the HP ODBC Driver for Windows ============================================= Task 1: Download and Run the ODBC Client Installation File ---------------------------------------------------------- 1. Turn off all other applications running on the client workstation. 2. Create a temporary client installation folder on the client workstation (for example, C:\ODBCTEMP). 3. From the client workstation, start a browser and navigate to the download site: http://www.software.hp.com 4. Search for "Neoview ODBC" in the Software Depot. 5. Click the HP Neoview ODBC Windows Driver link that appears in the search results. 6. Follow instructions to download the HP Neoview ODBC Windows Driver. 7. Click HPODBC, and save the file to the temporary folder in Step 2. 8. Rename the file to HPODBC.exe. Task 2: Start the InstallShield Wizard --------------------------------------

The InstallShield wizard walks you through the steps to install the client components (HP ODBC 1.0) on your workstation. 1. Double-click the HPODBC.exe file to start the InstallShield wizard. 2. On the Welcome page, click Next. 3. On the License Agreement page, click Yes to accept the terms of the agreement and proceed. 4. On the Choose Destination Location page, click Yes to select the default location: C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP ODBC 1.0 5. On the Setup Type page, Typical is selected. Click Next to select this type. 6. On the Select Program Folder page, select the HP ODBC 1.0 program folder, and click Next. 7. On the Start Copying Files page, review the install options that you selected, and click Next to begin copying program files. 8. On the Install HTML Help page, if the installer does not find the HTML Help executable on the system, you have the opportunity to install it. Click Yes to install HTML Help. The HTML Help installer runs after installation of the ODBC client software is complete. 9. On the InstallShield Wizard Complete page, click Finish to exit the wizard. Do not add a new HP ODBC data source to the MS ODBC Administrator until you have restarted your system. 10. You might see the Restart Required dialog box. Click Yes to automatically restart your system now. If you click No, you must restart your system for the installation to complete. Task 3: Restart the PC ---------------------- HP recommends that you restart the PC before you use the ODBC Client Administrator or the HP ODBC driver. Task 4: Edit the hosts File on the Workstation (Optional) --------------------------------------------------------- Edit the hosts file on your Windows workstation to include all segment names and IP addresses for the database platform. The system administrator for the database platform can tell you the segment names for your database platform. Depending on your system's operating system, the host file has different locations:

Windows 95/ME Windows 2000/XP Pro Windows XP Home C:\windows\hosts C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts Double-click the hosts file to open it with a text editor, and add configuration lines for each segment in this format: 127.0.0.1 localhost where "127.0.0.1" is the IP address and "localhost" is the segment. For example, suppose your system is a two-segment cluster with the segments SEGMENT1 (IP address 1.2.3.4) and SEGMENT2 (IP address 1.2.3.5). You would add these lines to the hosts file: 1.2.3.4 SEGMENT1 1.2.3.5 SEGMENT2 Task 5: Add a Client Data Source -------------------------------- NOTE: The schema names defined for server data sources using DB Admin are not recognized by ODBC for client data sources unless they are defined through the Microsoft ODBC Administrator. Schema names are case-sensitive. 1. Start the Microsoft ODBC Administrator: Start > Programs > HP ODBC 1.0 > MS ODBC Administrator Click Add. 2. Select HP ODBC 1.0 and then click Finish to start the Create Data Source wizard. 3. Enter the data source name (for example, "TDM_Default_DataSource") and then type an optional description, and click Next. 4. Enter the primary IP address or hostname for the database platform. This can be the first segment name or the IP of your data source. This is the IP address you use to access DB Admin. Enter the port as 18650. Leave the defaults as is and click Next. 5. Enter the schema name. The default schema name is USR. Click Next. 6. Provide the translate DLL: hp_odbctrace0100.dll. If you need to use a different translate DLL that uses options, enter them in that field, otherwise leave it blank. Leave the localization defaults as is, and click Next. 7. Enter the trace options. Both boxes are selected; leave them as is. Change the Log File Path to the location you want, or leave the default as is, and click Finish.

8. The wizard gives you an opportunity to test the connection. Click Test Connection. 9. The server ID and schema are filled in for you. Enter a valid user name and password. The wizard attempts to connect to the data source and displays a message to say it was successful or not. Task 6: Delete the Installation Folder -------------------------------------- When the installation is complete, delete the temporary installation folder you created in Task 1 (for example, C:\ODBCTEMP). III. Reinstalling the HP ODBC Driver for Windows ================================================ Task 1: Download and Run the ODBC Client Installation File ---------------------------------------------------------- 1. Task 2: Start the InstallShield Wizard and Reinstall the Driver --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Double-click the HPODBC.exe file to start the InstallShield wizard. 2. On the Welcome page, select the Repair option, and click Next. 3. Click Finish to complete the reinstallation of HP ODBC 1.0. NOTE: The newly installed HP ODBC driver uses preexisting data source definitions from the Windows registry. You do not need to re-create these data source definitions after reinstalling the ODBC driver.

IV. Uninstalling the HP ODBC Driver for Windows =============================================== 1. Start the HP ODBC 1.0 uninstall process: Start > Programs > HP ODBC 1.0 > Remove HP ODBC 1.0 Click Yes to completely remove HP ODBC 1.0. 2. Finish the uninstall process: Click Finish to complete the removal of HP ODBC 1.0. NOTE: Uninstalling the HP ODBC driver does not remove preexisting data source definitions from the Windows registry. V. Setting Up the Client Environment ==================================== Single Data Source ------------------ All client data sources connect to the preconfigured server data source on the database platform, which is: TDM_Default_DataSource. You can configure only one data source, TDM_Default_DataSource, on the database platform, but you can create other data source definitions on the workstation. You can have more than one schema on the database platform. Instead of changing the schema definition in the data source definition on the workstation, you can create multiple data source definitions on the workstation with different schemas. However, the connection will default to TDM_Default_DataSource. VI. Getting the Version of the Driver ===================================== 1. On the client workstation, navigate to the system32 directory (for example, C:\Windows\system32 on Windows XP or C:\WINNT\system32 on Windows 2000). 2. Locate the hp_odbc0100.dll file in the system32 directory. 3. Right-click the hp_odbc0100.dll file, and select Properties. 4. On the Properties page, select the Version tab, and note the version that is displayed under Value. VII.
