Get Your Phone Ready Register Your Phone on Sprint Prepaid 1. From your computer s browser, visit sprint.com/prepaidactivate. 2. Choose an activation option and click Next, and then enter your ZIP code and click Next. 3. When prompted, enter the serial number (MEID) printed on the label on your phone s packaging. 4. Follow the instructions to select a plan and payment method. If you re swapping phones or bringing your number over from a different carrier, follow the prompts to sign in or provide additional information. Install the Battery 1. Remove the back cover using the notch in the bottom-left corner of the phone. 2. Insert the battery into the battery compartment, making sure the connectors align. Gently press down to secure the battery. 3. Position the back cover over the battery compartment and press down until you hear a click. Get Your Phone Ready Activate Your Phone Charge the Battery 1. Insert the USB cable into the Charger/Accessory Jack. 2. Insert the other end of the cable into the charging head, and then plug the charging head into an electrical outlet. Note: You are advised to fully charge the battery ( ). To reduce power consumption and energy waste, reduce the backlight time and turn off GPS and Bluetooth when not in use. Activate Your Phone Press and hold the End/Power Key to turn on your new phone. Your phone is designed to activate automatically. When you turn the phone on for the first time, you should see a Hands Free Activation screen, which may be followed by a PRL Update screen and a Firmware Update screen. Follow the onscreen instructions to continue. If your phone is still not activated, visit sprint.com/prepaidsupport for assistance. If you do not have access to the Internet, call Sprint Customer Service at 1-855-639-4644 from another phone. 6
Basic Phone Functions Turn the Phone On Press and hold the End/Power Key until you see the powering-on animation. Turn the Phone Off Press and hold the End/Power Key until you see the powering-down animation. Navigate Through the Menus The navigation keys on your phone lets you scroll through onscreen items. To navigate through a menu, press up, down, left, or right using the navigation keys. Select Menu Items As you navigate through the menu, menu options are highlighted. Select any option by highlighting it and pressing. If the option is numbered, you can select it by pressing the corresponding number on the phone s keypad. Enter Text Your phone provides convenient ways to enter letters, numbers, and symbols whenever you are prompted to enter text. 1. From a screen where you can enter text, press OPTIONS (Right Soft Key) to change the text mode. (If you are in the message entry screen, press OPTIONS [Right Soft Key] > Text Mode.) 2. Select one of the following options: T9Word to enter text using a predictive text system that reduces the number of key presses required while entering a word. Abc to enter characters by using the alphabet mode. 123 to enter numeric characters. Symbols to enter symbols. Smileys to enter smile icons. Text Settings to display the text entry settings menu (if applicable). 8
Calls Make a Phone Call 1. From the home screen, enter a telephone number. Press to delete one or more digits. 2. Press to dial the number. 3. Press to end the call. Answer a Call Flip the phone and then press or to answer an incoming call. Mute the Ringer Press the Volume Down Button to silence the ringer. Ignore and Send Caller to Voicemail Press to ignore the call and send to voicemail. Ignore and Send Caller a Text Message Select Ignore with Text Message to ignore the call and automatically send a text message to the caller. Voicemail Set Up Your Voicemail All unanswered calls are automatically transferred to your voicemail, even if your phone is in use or turned off. You should set up your voicemail and personal greeting as soon as your phone is activated: 1. From the home screen, press MESSAGING (Left Soft Key) > Voicemail > Call Voicemail. - or - From the home screen, press and hold to dial your voicemail number. 2. Follow the system prompts to: Create your password. Record your name announcement. Record your greeting. Sprint strongly recommends setting a voicemail password. Retrieve Your Voicemail From your ALCATEL ONETOUCH RETRO: 1. From the home screen, press MESSAGING (Left Soft Key) > Voicemail > Call Voicemail. - or - From the home screen, press and hold to dial your voicemail number. 2. Follow the prompts to listen to your messages. From any other phone: 1. Dial your wireless phone number. 2. When your voicemail answers, press. 3. Enter your password. 10
Contacts View Contacts 1. From the home screen, press CONTACTS (Right Soft Key). 2. Use the navigation keys to scroll through the list to view your contacts. Add a New Contact 1. From the home screen, press CONTACTS (Right Soft Key) > Add New > New Contact. 2. Enter a name for the new entry. 3. Enter a phone number and then press down using the navigation keys. 4. Highlight a number type (Mobile, Home, Work, Pager, Fax, or Other) and press. 5. Press DONE (Left Soft Key). Edit Contacts 1. From the home screen, press CONTACTS (Right Soft Key). 2. Highlight the contact you want to edit and press OPTIONS (Right Soft Key) > Edit Contact. 3. Highlight a field to add or edit information as desired. 4. Messages Send a Message 1. From the home screen, press MESSAGING (Left Soft Key) > Send Message. 2. Select a recipient from the list or from the following options: Go to Contacts to select a recipient from your Contacts. (Qualifying Contacts entries must contain a phone number or an email address.) MULTIPLE (Left Soft Key) to select multiple recipients. (You may include up to 40 recipients per message.) NEW ADDRESS (Right Soft Key) to enter a recipient s phone number or email address directly. 3. Compose your message. 4. To add an attachment, select Add/Change Attachments. 5. Press OPTIONS (Right Soft Key) to select additional options. 6. Review your message and then press SEND (Left Soft Key). View and Reply to Messages 1. From the home screen, press MESSAGING (Left Soft Key) > Messages. 2. While a message is displayed, press REPLY (Left Soft Key). 3. Compose your reply message and then press SEND (Left Soft Key). Camera Take a Picture 1. From the home screen, press > Photos > Camera. 2. Using the phone s display screen as a viewfinder, aim the camera lens at your subject. 3. Press Camera Key or to capture the picture. Your phone automatically saves the picture to the default storage area. To return to Camera mode to take another picture, press CAMERA (Left Soft Key). 4. Press OPTIONS (Right Soft Key) for more options: Send to send your picture in a message. Assign to assign the picture as a: Picture ID to display the picture for contacts. Wallpaper to use the picture as a wallpaper for the home screen. Delete to delete the picture you just took. Review Album to review your saved pictures. Camera Record a Video 1. From the home screen, press > Photos > Camcorder > Video Mail or Long Video. 2. Using the phone s display screen as a viewfinder, aim the camera lens at your subject. 3. Press Camera Key or to start recording. 4. Press Camera Key or to stop recording. Your phone automatically saves the video to the default storage area. To return to Camcorder mode to record another video, press CAMCORDER (Left Soft Key). 5. Press OPTIONS (Right Soft Key) for more options: Send to send your video in a message. Play to view the video. Delete to delete the video. Review Album to review your saved videos. 14
Web Go Online 1. From the home screen, press > Web. 2. To scroll through up or down the screen, use the navigation keys. 3. To exit the browser at any time, simply press. Browser Menu You may open the browser menu anytime you have an active data session, from any page you are viewing. From the home screen, press > Web > Options (Right Soft Key). Bluetooth Turn Bluetooth On and Off 1. From the home screen, press > Tools > Bluetooth > On/Off. 2. Select Yes to turn Bluetooth On or Off. Pair Bluetooth Devices 1. From the home screen, press > Tools > Bluetooth > Add New. 2. Select the device you wish to pair with and press > Yes. 3. Enter the passkey and press. 4. (Optional) Edit the device name and then press SAVE (Left Soft Key). Note: Due to different specifications and features of other Bluetooth compatible devices, display and operations may be different, and functions such as transfer or exchange may not be possible with all Bluetooth compatible devices. Share Contacts Using Bluetooth 1. From the home screen, press > Tools > Bluetooth > Trusted Devices. 2. Select the device from the list and press Transfer (Left Soft Key). 3. Select contact entries and then press CONTINUE (Left Soft Key). 16
