Internal Settings 4.11 Special Control for Synchronous Motors Excitation The parameters TURN BYPAS ON AT and MIN TIME TO BYPAS are used for special cases of synchronous motors excitation system. These parameters are active only under the following conditions: Optional Relay PCB is installed When setting the RUN CONTACT DLY parameter, after reaching 120 seconds (maximum value) and operator keeps pressing for additional 10 seconds the key. The parameter TURN BYPASS ON AT determines motor current below which the soft starter goes into Run condition and closes the End Of Acceleration relay. The parameter MIN TIME TO BYPS assures that Run condition cannot be reached before the set time after the beginning of the starting process. This special feature is for synchronous motor starting applications where the motor current at asynchronous speed may be at higher level than regular asynchronous motor starting conditions. In this case the level of current at which the Run condition is 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual 35 / 111

Start and Stop Parameters 8 Start and Stop Parameters 8.1 Description of start curves Start curves Induction motors produce peak torque of up to 3 times the rated torque towards the end of starting process. In some pump applications, this peak may cause high pressure in the pipes. The ISA-HD incorporates 5 different starting curves: Start curve 0 - basic curve. Start curve 1 - standard curve (default). The most stable and suitable curve for the motor that prevents extended starting and motor overheating. Pump control Start curves 2, 3, 4 - Pump Control - Induction motors produce peak torque of up to 3 times the rated torque towards the end of starting process. In some pump applications, this peak may cause pressure surge in the pipes. During acceleration, before reaching peak torque, the Pump Control Program automatically controls the voltage ramp-up, thus, reducing peak torque. Voltage Torque DOL 1 2 3 4 Speed Choice of three pump control acceleration curves Time Figure 10 choice of three pump control curves (2,3,4) 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual 49 / 111

Start and Stop Parameters Start Curve 5 - Torque curve. The most suitable curve for the motor that provides linear acceleration and deceleration curves according to the torque. Figure 11 start curve 5, torque curve Note Consult factory for additional information Note Always start with start curve 1. If towards the end of acceleration, the peak torque is too high (pressure is too high), proceed to curve 2 then 3 or 4 if necessary. Pulse start Sets PULSE LEVEL and PULSE START TIME. Intended to break free high friction loads requiring high starting torque for a short time or for pedestal start by holding the current at a predefined level for predefined time period. The pulse is defined by its current level and time length (width). After this pulse the voltage is ramped down to INITIAL VOLTAGE setting before ramping up again to full voltage according to the START PARAMETERS settings. 50 / 111 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual

Start and Stop Parameters For PULSE TIME<1SEC. PULSE LEVEL can be set to 70-700% of FLA; For PULSE TIME 1SEC. PULSE LEVEL can be set to 70-400% of FLA; In EXTENDED SETTING. PULSE LEVEL can be set to 70-700% with the limitation of: 440 x (FLC/FLA). 80% Un 0-2 Sec. +10Vdc Figure 12 pulse start Notes: Note PULSE START is not effective in SOFT START CURVE 0. For better control of the current withdrawn from the network (mainly from generators), the following settings applies (applies from software versions newer than MVSTMB.GN-010509): Initial voltage Determines the motor initial starting torque (the torque is directly proportional to the square of the voltage).range: 10-50 % UN (consult factory for extended range) This adjustment also determines the inrush current and the resulting mechanical shock. A setting, which is too high may cause high initial mechanical shock and high inrush current (even if current limit is set low as the initial voltage setting overrides current limit setting). 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual 51 / 111

Start and Stop Parameters A setting too low may result in prolonged time until motor begins to turn. In general, this setting should ensure that the motor begins turning immediately after start signal. U% 100% 50% 10% Figure 13 initial voltage Note: When INITIAL VOLTAGE is set its maximum value, this displays changes to INITIAL CURRENT. When INITIAL CURRENT is set the ISA-HD causes current ramp instead of voltage ramp. Current limit Determines the motor highest current during starting. Range 100-400 % of FLA setting (consult factory for extended range). A too high setting will cause higher current drawn from the mains and faster acceleration. A setting too low may prevent motor from completing acceleration process and reaching full speed. In general, this setting should be set to a value high enough to prevent stalling. Note Current limit is not operating during RUN and SOFT STOP. 52 / 111 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual

Start and Stop Parameters 400% I% 100% Figure 14 current limit Acceleration time Determines the motor voltage ramp-up time from initial to full voltage. Range 1-30 sec. (consult factory for extended range). It is recommended to set acceleration time to the minimum acceptable value (approx. 5 sec). U% 100% 1 30 sec Figure 15 acceleration time Note 1. Since current limit overrides acceleration time when current limit is set low, starting time will be longer than the preset acceleration time. 2. When motor reaches full speed before voltage has reached nominal voltage, acceleration time setting is overridden and causes the voltage to ramp-up quickly to nominal. 3. Starting curves 1, 2, 3 prevents quick ramp up 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual 53 / 111

Start and Stop Parameters Maximum start time The maximum allowable starts time from start signal to the end of acceleration. If voltage does not reach full voltage during this time (for example, because of low current limit setting), the starter will trip the motor. LCD displays Long Start Time message. Range: 1-30 sec (consult factory for extended range). Number of starts Sets NUMBER OF STARTS permitted during STARTS PERIOD. Limits the number of starts during the period of time defined by STARTS PERIOD. If you try to start even one more time within that period the START INHIBIT period will take effect. Start Period Sets STARTS PERIOD during which NUMBER OF STARTS is being counted. Start Inhibit Sets START INHIBIT time which starting is disabled after TOO MANY STARTS trip. During the START INHIBIT period the WAIT BE- FORE RST XX MIN message will be displayed. Contact delay and Turn Bypass on 0-120sec. After reaching 120 seconds, keep pressing for 10 seconds the key and only if optional Relay PCB is installed the display changes to: TURN BYPASS ON AT 120-300%. End of Acceleration relay can signal that motor is at its RUN position which can be used for motor loading. 54 / 111 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual

Start and Stop Parameters 8.2 Description of stop curves Pump control - stop curve Intended to prevent water hammer during stopping. In pump applications, load torque decreases in square relation to the speed and reducing the voltage will reduce torque so motor will smoothly decelerate to stop.soft STOP initiation opens the End of Acceleration contact and opens the Bypass Contactor. Load will be transferred to the ISA- HD thyristors and voltage begins to ramp down. The ISA-HD incorporates 5 stopping curves that enable you to select the suitable torque curve: The following stop curves can be selected: Stop curve 0 - basic curve. Stop curve 1 - Standard default curve - voltage is linearly reduced from nominal to zero. The most stable and suitable curve for preventing prolonged stopping and motor overheating. Stop curves 2, 3, 4 - In some pump applications, when pumping to higher elevation a considerable part of the torque is constant and does not decrease with speed. It may happen that during the deceleration process when voltage decreases the motor torque abruptly falls below load torque (instead of smoothly decreasing speed to zero), thus closing the valve and causing water hammer. Curves 2, 3 and 4 eliminate the water hammer phenomenon. In pump application the load torque decreases in square relation to the speed, thus correcting control of voltage to reduce torque adequately and to smooth deceleration to a stop. Voltage 1!! 0 2!! 3!! Deceleration Figure 16 pump control stop curves 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual 55 / 111

Start and Stop Parameters Note It is recommended that SOFT STOP CURVE 1 be used for all standard applications (not pumps). To reduce water hammer, select SOFT STOP CURVE 2, then 3, then 4 in that order. Curves 2, 3, 4 designed to prevent stall condition.. Stop curve 5 (Torque curve) - Provides linear deceleration of the torque. In certain loads, linear torque deceleration can result in close to linear speed deceleration, thus eliminating stall conditions. Motor and Starter Protection ISA-HD trips when the register fills up. (THERMAL CAPACITY=100%) The time constant, in seconds, for cool down after overload trip is: Class 5 10 15 20 25 30 IEC 160 320 480 640 510 960 NEMA 140 280 420 560 700 840 The overload protection can be set to protect the motor as set in the OVERLOAD PROTECT parameter: ENABLE motor is protected at all time. ENABLE WHILE RUN motor is protected only when in Run. DISABLE motor is not overload protected by the soft starter. Note: In order to restart after OVERLOAD trip, the thermal register should be 50% or less. Under Current Operational when motor is running. Trips the starter when motor current drops below under current trip (UCT) set point for a period of time longer than under current delay (UCD). Under current trip range: 0 = Off, 20-90 % of FLA Under current delay range: 1-40 sec. Auto Reset A special feature enables auto reset after an adjustable time delay. Range: Off, 10-120 min. Under Voltage / No Voltage Operational after start signal. It trips the starter when main voltage drops below the under voltage trip set point for a period of time longer 60 / 111 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual

Motor and Starter Protection than under voltage delay. Auto reset can be activated via fault parameters. Auto reset is activated 60 sec after trip occurred. Under voltage trip range: 70-90 % UN (phase to phase) Under voltage delay range: 1-10 sec. Note 1. When voltage drops to zero (voltage outage) the starter will trip immediately, overriding the delay. 2. Auto reset cannot be activated if start signal is still connected. Over Voltage Operational after start signal. It trips the starter when main voltage exceeds the over voltage trip set point for an adjustable period of time longer than over voltage delay. Range: 110-125% of UN (phase to phase) Over voltage delay range: 1-10 sec. Phase loss (with programmable auto reset) Operational when starter is energized and protects motor from loss of phase. It trips the starter when one or two phases are missing. Auto reset can be activated via fault parameters. Auto reset is activated 60 sec after trip occurred. Note 3. Phase loss might not be detected for lightly loaded motors. 4. Auto reset cannot be activated if start signal is still connected. 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual 61 / 111

Motor and Starter Protection Phase Sequence It trips the starter when starter is energized and phase sequence is wrong. Heat-sink Over Temperature Thermal sensors are mounted on the heat-sinks and trip the starter when temperature exceeds 85 C. External fault 1 and 2 Operational when starter is energized. It trips the starter when an external contact closes for more than 2 sec. Unbalance Current Trip Operational after start signal. It trips the starter when current unbalance increases above the preset UNBALANCE TRIP for more than the UNBALANCE DLY set-point. Range: 10-100 %. Delay: 1-60 sec. Ground Fault Trip Operational after start signal. It trips the starter when ground current increases above the preset GND FAULT TRIP for more than GND FAULT DLY set point. Range: 10-100 %. Delay: 1-60 sec. Set to curve 0 Trip occurs if the Soft Starter starts with a non-adequate starting curve to the network. Motor insulation (Optional) Trips the ISA-HD when the motor insulation level decreases below the trip level set.. Power ON and No start 62 / 111 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual

Motor and Starter Protection Operational upon main voltage connection. It trips the motor when main voltage is connected to the ISA-HD for more than 30 sec. without a start signal. Modbus Time out If no valid Modbus communication during MODBUS TIME OUT, the ISA-HD will trip. Trip occurs only if the following conditions exist: SER. LINK CONTROL is set to ENABLE SERIAL LINK NO. is not set to OFF By-pass Open If the by-pass is located in a separate cabinet and after by-pass is closed, current measurement reads 0 the soft starter trips and displays BP TRIP. It is possible to disable this protection by setting BP open trip to disable (on fault setting page). Note Most of the protections after BYPASS IS CLOSED can be disable by respective settings on the fault page Non Adjustable Protection Functions UNDER / OVER FREQEUNCY Trips the ISA-HD if frequency is not in the range of 44-65Hz Check that frequency variations are between 44-65Hz. PHASELOSS Trips the starter if 1 or 2 phases are missing. Check lines voltages and correct connection. 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual 63 / 111

Motor and Starter Protection WRONG PARAMETER After power up parameters not transferred from RAM to EEPROM or vice versa. Press Reset then load DEFAULT PARAMETERS. Refer to section 10 for more details on loading default parameters. Note that obtaining DEFAULT PARAMETERS erases all previously modified settings and requires the operator to reprogram all parameters that differ from the factory default. Note: It is especially important to reprogram the RATED LINE VOLTAGE and STARTER FLC (as shown on the label of the ISA-HD) and all other parameters in the MAIN & PROTECT mod page. Wrong Connections and Shorted SCR Operational after start signal. It trips the starter if motor is not properly connected to starter's load terminals, or if: Internal disconnection in the motor winding is detected. one or more SCRs are shorted. a fiber - optic lead is not properly inserted. This protection is not active when SOFT START CURVE 0 is selected. Check with an ohmmeter between L1-U, L2-V, L3-W; resistances are listed on section xxx.. Check for no voltage on terminals U, V, W (from parallel system or an independent bypass). OVERTEMPERATURE Thermal sensors are mounted on the heat-sinks of the Power Section and trip the ISA-HD when the temperature rises above 85ºC. 64 / 111 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual

Motor and Starter Protection Caution The over temperature protection is designed to operate under normal conditions e.g. in the event of extended low overload. Incorrect starter selection or operations frequent starting at maximum conditions or repeated starting under fault conditions can cause SCRs to overheat and fail before the heat-sink reaches 85 C to trip the thermal sensors. STORAGE ERROR When trying to store parameters at the end of a mode page or after lading DEFAULT PRAMETERS. Press Reset and try again. If this does not succeed load DEFAULT PARAMETERS. Refer to section 10 for more details on loading default parameters. Note that obtaining DE- FAULT PARAMETERS erases all previously modified settings and requires the operator to reprogram all parameters that differ from the factory default. Note: It is especially important to reprogram the RATED LINE VOLT- AGE and STARTER FLC (as shown on the label of the ISA-HD) and all other parameters in MAIN & PROTECT mod page. COMM. (only when use) PULSE TIME 0 SEC. INITIAL VOLTAGE 30 % INITIAL CURRENT 100% Description: Sets motor s INITIAL STARTING VOLTAGE. The motor s torque is directly proportional to the square of the voltage. This adjustment also determines the inrush current and mechanical shock. A setting that is too high may cause high initial mechanical shock and high inrush current. This can occur even if CURRENT LIMIT is set low because the INITIAL VOLTAGE setting overrides the CURRENT LIMIT setting. A setting that is too low may result in prolonged time until the motor starts to turn. In general, this setting should ensure that the motor starts turning immediately after start signal. 84 / 111 20140512_RevL_gb_kq_MV-C ISA-HD Instruction manual

Parameter Setting Instruction Display Note: When INITIAL VOLTAGE is set its maximum value, this displays changes to INI- TIAL CURRENT. When INITIAL CURRENT is set the ISA-HD causes current ramp instead of voltage ramp. Press or keys to set current limit. Range: 100-400 % of motor FLA. (extended settings 100-700%) CURRENT LIMIT 400 % OF FLA Description: Sets motor s CURRENT LIMIT during starting. A setting that is too high will increase the current drawn from mains and faster acceleration. A setting that is too low may prevent the motor from completing acceleration process and reaching full speed. In general, this setting should be set to a value that is high enough to prevent stalling. Note: CURRENT LIMIT does not operate during RUN and SOFT STOP. Press or keys to set acceleration time. Range: 1-30 sec. ACC. TIME 10 SEC. Description: Sets ACCELERATION TIME of the motor. Determines the motor s voltage ramp-up time, from initial to full voltage. It is recommended to set ACCEL- ERATION TIME to the minimum acceptable value (approx. 5 sec). Notes: Since CURRENT LIMIT overrides ACC.
