A. Steps to start the MINITAB program: IMPORTANT: Do the following command only once. Please be patient. It can take MiniTab awhile to load when everyone is starting Minitab at the same time. Click on: Start All Programs Minitab 14 For Windows Minitab 14 B. Steps to open (or retrieve) a saved project: 1. Click on: File Open Project In the Open Project window: a. Click on the down arrow in the Look-in: box and select the K: drive > NatrlSci folder > GNguyen b. Double click on the file: Lab One.MPJ On the next page you can see the screen that should appear after you double clicked. The window on the right should appear. This file contains the information for a random sample of 50 students. C. Steps to save your project: 1. Click on: File Save Project As In the Save Project As window: a. For the Bars represent box, select Counts of unique values b. Click on the Simple button In the Bar Chart Counts of unique values, Simple window: a. Double click on C2 GENDER in the box on the left to pump this variable to the Categorical variables box on the right. You should see the histogram displayed to the right. 2. To insert your name on the and print it: a. Right-click on the title, select Add select Title type in your name following the title b. To the left of Chart raw data, click on the circle option button. A dot should appear in this circle. b. Click in the Categorical variables text box to make the variable list on the left appear. c. Double click on C3 EYE COLOR in the box on the left to pump this variable to the Categorical variables box on the right. 2. Click on the Labels button 3. In the Pie Chart - Labels window: a. Click on the Slice Labels tab b. To the left of every line click on the check box option. A check should appear in every box. When you return to the Pie Chart window 4. Click on: Stat Basic Statistics Display Descriptive Statistics In the Display Descriptive Statistics window: a. Double click on C5 SAT MAT in the box on the left to pump this variable to the Variables box on the right. 2. In the Session window, you should see the descriptive statistics displayed to the right: I. Save your project: Click on the save file icon J. Double click on C5 SAT MAT in the box on the left to pump this variable to the Graph Variables box on the right. b. Click in the Increment: text box Note: The items in the box on the left will disappear and type: 50 In the Sessions window, you should see part of the stemplot displayed on the right. 3. To maximize this window to see the entire diagram: a. Click on the maximize button (the button in the middle in the upper right hand corner of this window) Maximize Button b. Click on the up arrow on the scroll bar on the right edge until you see the entire diagram. Up Arrow Q. Save your project: Click on the save file icon R. Print the Session window.
