1 Introduction EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint extends the EMC SourceOne platform, enabling organizations to manages the growth of SharePoint content and sites through storage optimization and enhances the control of inactive content through SharePoint archiving. This chapter is organized as follows: Overview... 10 EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint architecture... 12 Prerequisite installation: EMC SourceOne platform... 13 Accounts and permissions... 14 EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint considerations... 18 Introduction 9

Introduction Overview EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint addresses long-term or specialized content archiving strategies while leveraging the EMC SourceOne architecture to provide access to archived content using search user interfaces. Archiving EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint supports the policy-based archiving of SharePoint content in the EMC SourceOne archive to provide efficient storage of SharePoint content. Search EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint provides the following options for searching for archived SharePoint content: End users can search for archived content using an Archive Search site integrated into SharePoint. Administrative users can use the EMC SourceOne Search application to search for archived SharePoint content. External BLOB Storage (EBS) EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint also provides External binary large object (BLOB) storage, effectively offloading the storage of binary large objects from the SharePoint SQL Server and storing them using EMC SourceOne. EBS is configured at the farm level. This feature includes an EBS Provider database which is installed on the SharePoint SQL Server to maintain identification information for BLOBs stored externally in the Native Archive by EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint. Microsoft SharePoint applications This section describes applications specifically used with EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint. SharePoint administration sites Installing EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint solutions in your SharePoint environment provides administration sites. These sites enable SharePoint administrators perform SharePoint-side configuration of general administration of EMC SourceOne features provided for SharePoint. 10 EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint Version 6.7 Installation Guide

Introduction EMC SourceOne Search (for Microsoft SharePoint content) EMC SourceOne Search enables Microsoft SharePoint administrators to search for and process SharePoint content stored in the EMC SourceOne Native Archive. Administrators can search archived content belonging to many end users. End users must use the EMC SourceOne Search functionality integrated in the SharePoint user interface to search for content for which they have the appropriate permissions to access. See Integrated SharePoint Archive search on page 11 for details. Note: Since EBS content is not stored in the Native Archive, it is not searchable using EMC SourceOne Search. For more information about EMC SourceOne Search application features and capabilities, refer to the EMC SourceOne Search User Guide. Integrated SharePoint Archive search Installing EMC SourceOne components on a SharePoint server or farm provides an EMC SourceOne page in SharePoint which enables SharePoint users to search for content archived by EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint. Permissions are controlled by either Active Directory or SharePoint group association the user had at the time the content was archived. Refer to the EMC SourceOne for Microsoft SharePoint Administration Guide for more details. Overview 11
