Overview Description The RS485 String Potentiometer (Yo-Yo) Sensor, designed for use as a feedback sensor in measuring the cutting depth of a planer, uses a 10-turn potentiometer as the sensing element for length measurement. This sensor provides an RS485 signal required by a System V/VI control system. The housing is attached to the side of the machine. The cable is attached to a movable reference, i.e. side gate on a cold planer. A set point value is set by the system and as the machine moves, the reference object moves up and down. As the reference object moves up and down the cable retracts or extends and returns a proportional RS485 signal to the Grade Control System which uses the signal to raise or lower the machine to desired set point. 4 L1223774 Rev BA Jul 2013
