ECM-1240 Energy Consumption Monitor The ECM-1240 packages are available with or without wireless communication option. NET Metering Capable for Measuring: Energy Consumed Energy Generated NET Energy (purchased - sold) The ECM-1240 is a seven channel electrical power monitor. It is designed to monitor entire panel consumption in addition to sub-panels or individual branch circuits. The seven true power monitoring channels consist of two main channels (CH1 & CH2) and five auxiliary channels (AUX1-5). The two main channels are capable of net metering which allows measurement of power consumed or generated, such as is the case for renewable energy installations. Although not restricted for net metering, CH1 and CH2 are typically used for monitoring the entire home consumption on one channel and a sub-panel or large load on the other channel. The five AUX channels may each monitor one or more 120V, a 240V load or combinations of each. All channels measure true power energy which is what you are charged for by the power company. The measured energy consumption is made available in real-time for storing, viewing and analyzing using a computer. The data is also logged internally for later retrieval. The standard ECM-1240 device is equipped with an RS-232 communication port which may be connected directly to a computer s RS-232 port. We optionally have available, RS-232 to USB converter or RS-232 to Ethernet gateways for USB or Ethernet connection. The ECM-1240 is also available with a wireless communication option which includes a built in radio module (XBee module from Digi International www.digi.com) These radios operate on a ZigBee mesh network.

ECM-1240 PACKAGES ECM-1240 PKG A / Econo: Low cost solution for monitoring several branch circuit loads. ECM-1240 PKG A/60: Basic system for a 60A electrical panels plus multiple branch circuit loads. ECM-1240 PKG A/100: Basic system for a 100A electrical panels plus multiple branch circuit loads. ECM-1240 PKG A/200: Basic system for a 200A electrical panels plus multiple branch circuit loads. ECM-1240 PKG D/200: System for monitoring a 400A service consisting of two 200A service panels, along with several branch circuits. ECM-1240 PKG F/200: This system is designed for monitoring a 200A main panel service along with sub-panel up to 100A. Also includes several Micro-40 CTs for monitoring several branch circuits. ECM-1240 Expansion Package PKG E1: This expansion package is geared for current owners of Brultech s ECM-1220 or ECM-1240 energy monitors. Since these would generally already be monitoring the main panel, this system provides a means of monitoring several additional loads. Special pricing is provided for our customers currently using our product. ECM-1240 PKG J/200: This deluxe two-ecm-1240 monitor system has the capability of monitoring two 200A panels in addition to a 100A load, 80A load. Also comes with 18 Micro-40 CTs for monitoring an assortment of panel circuit loads. ECM-1240 PKG K/200: This three ECM-1240 system is designed for large homes in mind. The package provides the ability to monitor two 200A panels, two 100A sub-panels or loads, two 80A sub-panels or loads along with 24 Micro-40 CTs for a multitude of branch circuits. ADDITIONAL CT OPTIONS: More CT options are now available for special situations. We now have special CTs with a rectangular opening providing a solution to some panel types using a flat bus-bar feed instead of typical circular wire. We also recommend using Micro-80 CTs for those with aluminium electrical wiring. The larger size-per-amp of aluminium conductors may not be compatible with the 0.26 inner diameter of the Micro-40 CTs.

ECM-1240 PKG A / Econo NET Metering Capable for Measuring: Energy Consumed Energy Generated NET Energy (purchased - sold) ECM-1240 PKG A/Econo: Economy package ideal for branch circuits monitoring, although quite capable of monitoring sub-panels up to 80A. Perfect for analysing large 120V or 240V split phase loads in conjunction with other existing total energy monitoring system such as Smart Grid metering, ECM-1220 monitor, or third party main panel monitor. This package consists of donut style CTs only. Package Includes: One ECM-1240 with RS-232 communications Two Micro-80 CTs for CH1 (monitors a load up to 80A) Two Micro-80 CTs for CH2 (monitors a load up to 80A) Five Micro-40 CTs, one for each AUX channel DB-9 Cable (3 FT) Wall Transformer & Manual Free IA Software and Engine Software download. Comes with a passive RS- 232 multiplexer for combining the communication data from both ECM-1240 devices (not included or required for wireless XBee systems). This system may also be used on a 2-phase 120V/208V panel such as those found in many commercial environments. Certain limitations apply. Communication Options The communication options fall under two general categories: Wired Wireless Wired Communication Options (non wireless): Serial to USB adaptor: Used to connect the ECM-1240 to a computer s USB port for communication. For extended cable lengths, the RS-232 cable should be extended since RS-232 does not have the same limitation that USB does. The adaptor is powered via the USB port. EP-1 EtherPort Gateway The EtherPort provides a gateway for the ECM-1240 s RS-232 data to be accessible on a network or internet via TCP/IP. Comes with: 5V regulated power supply 3ft Ethernet Cable The EtherX Configuration Software is used to setup the IP settings. This application is downloadable from our website. MUX-1 Passive RS-232 Multiplex Cable The MUX-1 provides a means for two or three ECM-1240 to share the same RS-232 communication port. It may be used to connect directly to an RS-232 port, Serial-to-USB Adaptor or EtherPort (serial to Ethernet). No PIC

Wireless Communication Options: XB-1240-1, XB-1240-2, XB1240-3 The XB-1240 option is the inclusion of the wireless XBee module built into the ECM-1240 monitor, allowing wireless communication with one of the following optional gateways: Wireless Communication Option Wireless Dongle (Wireless to USB) EtherBee (Wireless to Ethernet) The part number suffix of -1, -2 and -3 refers to the number of ECM-1240 devices included in the package. For example, ECM-1240 PKG J/200 would require part number XB-1240-2 in order to have the wireless option installed in both ECM-1240 devices. The module communicates using ZigBee mesh networking protocol. Unlike RS-232 communication, there is no need for a multiplex adaptor when using more than one ECM-1240, or combination of ECM-1240/ECM-1220 wirelessly. The gateway (coordinator) has the ability to listen to all devices and send a command to any individual monitor. *ZigBee is a trademark of the ZigBee Alliance *XBee is a trademark of the Digi International www.digi.com This option includes a built-in wireless radio on to the ECM-1240 from any of the available ECM- 1240 Packages. NOTE: The wireless module should not be installed by the user. Certain modifications are required along with device re-calibration. U2Z ECM Wireless Dongle The Wireless Dongle provides a gateway for wireless communication with an ECM-1240 having the XB-1240 wireless option, via a USB port. The Dongle plugs into the computer and is configured as a ZigBee coordinator. The XBee radio may also be configured or flash upgraded direct via USB communication. EB-1 EtherBee Gateway The EtherBee provides wireless communication with an ECM-1240 via TCP/IP. (The ECM-1240 must have the XB-1240 wireless option installed) The EtherBee comes with: 5V regulated power supply 3ft Ethernet Cable The EtherX Configuration Software is used to setup the IP settings. This application is downloadable from our website. XBee Repeater The XBee Repeater is used to increase the communication range of the ECM-1240 (with wireless option). Since communication is on a mesh network, the repeater connects itself to the Personal Area Network (PAN) and is able to forward packets to two ZigBee devices which are out of range with each other. The repeater is powered via a standard outlet. Current Transformer (CT) The general CT types available are: Split-Core Donut (Solid Core) Clamp-On SPLIT-CORE CTs: SPLIT-200 CT Pair: This set of two CTs is for use on CH1 or CH2 of the ECM-1240 (Not compatible with the AUX channels). Two CTs are required for a single 200A panel. The two CTs are typically connected together on a single channel (CH1 or CH2). They may also be each connected to a separate dedicated channel if desired, providing a breakdown measurement of Line1 and Line2. Single SPLIT-200 CT specification: High Accuracy +/- 1% Capable of more than 200A continuous.98 ID x 2.67 OD x 0.724 9.8ft cable, 300V rated High quality hinge and snap mechanism UL/c listed SPLIT-150 CT Pair: This set of two CTs is for use on CH1 or CH2 of the ECM-1240 (Not compatible with the AUX channels). Two CTs are required for a service panel and are typically connected together to a single channel (CH1 or CH2). The rectangular CT design provides a solution for panels using flat buss-bars instead to round wires. The rectangular shape of the bussbar inhibits the installation of standard circular shaped split-core CTs. The SPLIT-150 solves this dilemma due to its unique shape. The SPLIT-150 is rated for 170A, but may be used on a 200A panel since panel current rarely exceeds 80% of the rated current.

SPLIT-60 CT Pair: This set of two CTs is for use on CH1 or CH2 of the ECM-1240 (Not compatible with the AUX channels). These are perfect for 60A service panels.
