GE Intelligent Platforms Activating Licenses Offline Using GE Intelligent Platforms License Server January 2016
Introduction: This document is an introduction to activating licenses offline using GE-IP license server. In this example, the computer with the GE-IP software to be licensed is not connected to the Internet. A portable media device will be used to transfer necessary authorization files between the offline PC and a PC that is online with connection to the cloud. The same PC is used for online and offline in this example (same Proficy Computer ID). 2
Ensure that you have installed and are running the latest Proficy Licensing. The link to this is https://ge-ip.force.com/communities/en_us/download/proficy-licensing-installer-dn When the customer order is placed/processed through the ERP system, you will receive an email. Click on the download your software link. Also take note of the Activation Code. 3
From the offline PC, start the License Manager by going to Start-> All Programs-> Proficy Common-> License Manager (right click and run as administrator). Acknowledge any User Access Control prompts. Choose Change Settings. 4
Ensure that you are using a Device Name & Device Location that is identifiable. Select Do not use a license server option and then click on Save. Verify the connection status states Offline. Then left click the Welcome link on the top left of the window. Next, click on Manage License from the home screen. 5
Click on Activate. Click on Enter Activations. 6
You will be prompted to enter your Activation Code for the license you intend to request. More than one code may be added per key by using the Add Code. Use the Activation Code in the email you received from us as detailed in the previous steps. Use the Activate button to process the activation code. The system will prompt you to Save License Request File to the before mentioned removable media. Modify the.request file name to better track your files and save to either your removable media. This file will be uploaded to the licensing server from the mentioned PC with the internet access. 7
When the save is complete, you are prompted that the request file has been created. Click OK. Next we work with the Activate by File process to create a license response. Open the license manager application from the online machine. Take your removable media to the PC with online access and a connection to the GE-IP cloud (and plug in the media). Start the License Manager by going to Start-> All Programs-> Proficy Common-> License Manager (right click and run as administrator). Acknowledge any User Access Control prompts. Choose Change Settings. 8
Ensure that you are using a Device Name & Device Location that is identifiable, left click on Verify Connection and ensure that you have selected Use GEIP License Server on the Internet as an Activation Source. Left click Save and then left click the Welcome link. If there is no connection to the cloud server you will see: Next, click on Manage License from the home screen. 9
Click on Activate (Or Refresh) By File. Click on Upload License. 10
You will see the Select One or More License Request Files dialog. Navigate to the removable media device and find the.request file that was generated from the offline PC. Left click on the.request file and then on Open. Next, you are presented with a Save License Response Files dialog. Ensure that you save the file to your removable media. Left click the Save button. 11
You will then be prompted that that the Response File has been saved, click on OK. Next we work with the Response File. Open the license manager application on the offline machine that is not connected to the internet or GE-IP cloud. At the offline PC, the on Activate a License screen should still be up. Choose the Import License option to import the.response file generated on the internet connected PC. 12
Navigate to the removable media and locate your response file and click Open. You will be prompted that the activation was successful. Left click on OK. 13
Your license will now populate under the right hand side of the Activate a License screen under Your Licensed Products. You may see the license details by left clicking View Licenses. This concludes the introduction to activating licenses offline using GE-IP license server. 14
