1.1 URW++ NEW FONTS CATALOGUE 2011 NEUSTADT SELECTYPE The Neustadt font family was originally designed as a corporate font for Sport 2000, one of the leading buying groups in the European Sport Retail Industry. After it has been successfully established, it is now available in a revised version for the general market. The Neustadt family is highly legible both in print and on screen. As part of the URW++ SelecType collection, Neustadt meets very high quality standards and is available in over 30 European languages. The characters have smooth curved spines and little contrast combined with a big x-height. The form is very functional and has no unnecessary details. These characteristics make Neustadt perfectly usable for many type applications like sign posting, headlines, texts and also for branding. 2.1 URW++ NEW FONTS CATALOGUE 2011 CUTOFF PRO SELECTYPE The first plain weight of Cutoff Pro was designed in 2005 to be used in Miele, an independent, Italian, free magazine. The need was for an elegant, unusual and legible semi-serif with contemporary flavour. I was fascinated by the deconstructivist work of Jeff Keedy (Hard Times Thick), Phil Baines (Can You, You Can) and Otl Aicher (Rotis), so my aim was to get the feeling of a cut transitional typeface; at the same time felt the exigence to work on the whole shape of the glyphs, in order to soften the 90s deconstructivist effect and obtain a more balanced and readable design. In the last years I further worked on the typeface adding the other styles, extending the character set and refining the letterforms. Finally the precious collaboration with URW++ brought in 2011 to a complete OpenType Pro font family, with multilingual and advanced typographic features. 3.1 URW++ NEW FONTS CATALOGUE 2011 FILO PRO SELECTYPE Filo Pro is a very beautiful and highly legible typeface family. It is a quite characteristic, modern interpretation of the humanistic serif. The serifs of Filo Pro are not too dominant, and its forms are soft and organic. The font family renders extremely well in text sizes but can equally well be used for headlines. The OpenType Pro family of Filo Pro comes with an extended Latin character set including a large number of beautiful ligatures as well as small caps and different sets of figures. 4.1 URW++ NEW FONTS CATALOGUE 2011 RALDO RE SELECTYPE Raldo RE combines motion and formal strictness, it is very readable, absolutely durable and formally individual without being artificial in any way. As a typeface with»character«, Raldo RE is well suited for headline and display typography, but, at the same time, it is an excellent alternative to traditional serif fonts for longer text in books, magazines, etc. DESIGNER STYLES FORMAT Marc Musenberg Regular, Regular Italic, Text, Text Italic, SemiBold, SemiBold, SemiBold Italic, Bold, Bold Italic, Black, Black Italic OTF Pro: West, East, OpenType Features REGULAR REGULAR ITALIC TEXT TEXT ITALIC 08 19

5.1 URW++ NEW FONTS CATALOGUE 2011 JUSTUS PRO SELECTYPE Justus Pro is a modern Egyptienne with a humanistic touch. It avoids the slightly rustic character of older Egyptienne designs and, despite its distinctive forms, develops a high level of elegance and readability. 6.1 URW++ NEW FONTS CATALOGUE 2011 PRANA PRO FONTFORUM Prana Pro is a modern, young and fresh slab serif created by Christoph Ulherr during his studies with Prof. Gertrud Nolte at the faculty of design of the Hochschule Würzburg under the direction of Volker Schnebel, URW's type director. Prana Pro is an excellent headline and display font while, at the same time, very well readable at small sizes. It can be used for any kind of publication including posters and book covers. 7.1 URW++ NEW FONTS CATALOGUE 2011 RENE MENUE FONTFORUM Some time ago, I started to think about the idea of combining my passionate hobby cooking with my profession as a graphic designer. René Menue Symbol contains 99 kitchen symbols of classical design and quality. To complement the symbols typographically, there is René Menue, a fitting linear Sans Serif typeface with plenty of extra characters such as ligatures, figures etc. René Menue is a modern, slightly condensed and economic design with round shapes, very modern but classical at the same time. These features make it perfectly usable in many different publications, not necessarily restricted to cooking DESIGNER STYLES FORMAT René Breil Light, Regular, Bold, Symbols OTF Pro: West, East, OpenType Features LIGHT 0123456789 (.,:;» «!?) {&} [#@$ )* Hamburgerfonts by Rene Breil REGULAR 0123456789 (.,:;» «!?) {&} [#@$ )* Hamburgerfonts by Rene Breil BOLD 0123456789 (.,:;» «!?) {&} [#@$ )* Hamburgerfonts by Rene Breil SYMBOLS zäöüß12 HIJKL MNOPQ RSTUVWXY ZÄÖÜa bcdef ghijkl 67890 $ ƒ @¹ ²³.:( -,)& *# +! =?%[ /} 345 ]{ ABC DE FG mnop qrst uvwxy 13 19
8.1 URW++ NEW FONTS CATALOGUE 2011 HAIR FONTFORUM Hair is another beautiful URW++ FontForum contribution by Wojtek Runau. It is a technically ambitious multi-line script-like type design that should be used carefully and in large sizes only. However, set properly, Hair renders beautifully and charmingly. 9.1 URW++ NEW FONTS CATALOGUE 2011 TECHNOTYP FONTFORUM The digital font Technotyp is based on the hot metal typeface created by the German typographer and type designer Herbert Thannhaeuser (1898-1963) for the former East German type foundry Typoart in Dresden. In the typography book Der Schriftsetzer (Fachbuchverlag, Leipzig, 1952), by Paul Fritzsche, this absolutely beautiful slab serif design is presented in all its variations. Fritzsche remarked that because of its rather condensed form and its relatively long ascenders the 'Werkschrift' of the Technotyp (comparable with our 'Regular') seemed to be very well suited to serve as a text face, and recommended for this purpose that the face be cut for the composing machine. However, this never happened and the entire Technotyp family was made available for hand composition only. This is finally changing and being remedied for good now: URW++ proudly presents the new digital version of this really charming font family with its distinct flavor of the 1950s, adding it to the other digital renditions of Herbert Thannhaeuser fonts at URW++, namely Garamond No. 4 and Magna. The original Typoart family had an italic style for the light version only. The new digital version of Technotyp includes italic styles for the regular, medium and bold weights as well, enhancing the family to meet today s standards and requirements for professional type setting. To further increase its usefulness, Cyrillic faces were created, too. True to the standard for all digital fonts at URW++, the character set for Technotyp covers all West- and East European languages.
