Introduction ARGUS Enterprise The workstation application is a standalone installation of ARGUS Enterprise that does not require any server components to operate. All processes are performed locally on the PC. Before You Start The install must be performed using the end-user account, and the end-user of the application must have local administrator rights during the upgrade/installation process in order to install the new version and set up the database. An end user without administrator rights will be unable to complete the install or run the configuration utility. The installation will prompt for Administrator Credentials before the installation is actually performed (see installation section). An administrator can type credentials at that point as an alternative to granting local administrator rights to the end-user for the duration of the install. Add the end-user account to the Administrators Group. For more information on adding user accounts to a group, go to Microsoft Windows Help. Copyright 2017 ARGUS Software Inc Altus Group 2

Upgrading a Prior Version ARGUS Enterprise The following section provides an example of an upgrade from ARGUS Enterprise version 9.5 to ARGUS Enterprise 11.7.0. Upgrades from previous versions will follow the same process. If this is a new installation, go to the section titled Installation Instructions. Note: The upgrade must be performed using the end-user account, and the end-user of the application must have local administrator rights in order to perform the configuration utility steps described in the remainder of this section. Add the user to the Administrators group on the PC. Log in as an administrator and start Computer Management. Copyright 2017 ARGUS Software Inc Altus Group 3

Add the end-user account to the Administrators Group. ARGUS Enterprise Open ARGUS Enterprise 11.7.0 Configuration from the ARGUS Software\ARGUS Enterprise 11.7.0 folder in the Start>All Programs menu. Copyright 2017 ARGUS Software Inc Altus Group 4

ARGUS Enterprise Click AE 11.7.0 Database and make a note of the Server and the Database names. Important Note: The upgrade of a database to AE version 11.7 and subsequent versions from a pre-10.5 database will require a significantly longer time to accomplish than previous versions due to some underlying technical changes. Please expect upgrade times that may last up to several hours for very large databases. Ensure that you have a current backup before proceeding with an upgrade. Make a backup of the existing AE database. To do this, open your end-user profile folder and copy the.mdf and.ldf files to another location. Copyright 2017 ARGUS Software Inc Altus Group 5

Database Maintenance Management Enhancements ARGUS Enterprise Management options are located in the Configuration Utility. The user running should be an Argus administrator, as well as an administrator on the SQL Server because the management options will handle backups, restores, and running maintenance on the Argus database. General Server Information The initial screen of the Database Management module provides some basic information on the SQL Server as well as some basic backup information. This can be copied to the clipboard by using the Copy button provided to allow inclusion in any support requests. Copyright 2017 ARGUS Software Inc Altus Group 29

ARGUS Enterprise Backup Database Upon entering the backup dialogue, an initial integrity check is performed to protect against backing up data identified by SQL server as corrupt (e.g. the hard drive is failing and has corrupted the database). As this can take some time on larger databases, the option is given to bypass this check. A few enhancements to the backup process are provided to improve the user experience. Identify any users currently connected to the database to allow the administrator to request them to disconnect if they prefer to backup with no active sessions. Verify the backup upon completion. Retain a customized backup location as the default setting for the user. Click Management Configuration Screen>Backup. Choose backup directory. Leave the default directory to allow the backup to be saved to the default SQL server location. Otherwise, choose the directory selector and navigate to the folder. Click OK to proceed. Naming Entering the backup dialogue will provide defaults based on the server configuration, allowing quick proceeding with the backing up the database. This can be modified. However, we recommend using the default naming when possible. This naming provides a consistent naming convention that makes assistance with future review or support issues easier. The default naming convention currently used is: DatabaseName_SQLServerVersion_DateAndTimeOfBackup Copyright 2017 ARGUS Software Inc Altus Group 30

ARGUS Enterprise Backup Folder The current path chosen for the backup location is the default sql server backup location identified. However, if running a local sql server instance (such as workstation), the default SQL Server backup path can be overridden with a custom destination folder using the provided folder selector. Remote sql server instances do not provide this option, and the user should use the default sql server backup path location. Once the backup has completed, notice of completion and successful verification displays. Copyright 2017 ARGUS Software Inc Altus Group 31

ARGUS Enterprise Restore Database The restore option allows the user to restore the database to a previous backup without the need to run this manually in SQL Server Management Studio. This backup can be restored as a separate database or over the existing Argus installation. Click Management Configuration Screen>Restore. Choose Backup. By default, this will be populated with the current Argus database connection information. If previous backups have been performed on the database, a choice can be made on which one to restore. If a specific file is desired, select the Choose File option and press the file dialogue menu. Copyright 2017 ARGUS Software Inc Altus Group 32

ARGUS Enterprise Backup List The provided backup list is obtained by reading the stored backup history from SQL Server. If restoring a backup taken on another machine, SQL server will not have a history of this backup and the user must use the Choose File option. Remote Server Limitations This file dialogue option is not available when the user is working with a remote SQL server instance. To restore the database Copy the file to an accessible location on the remote server. Type the file path on the remote server in the Choose File text box. If restoring over the existing database, a prompt will be shown requesting confirmation before proceeding. Click Yes. Copyright 2017 ARGUS Software Inc Altus Group 33

ARGUS Enterprise Perform Maintenance Maintenance functions provide some optimization of the AE database by performing database related maintenance. This ensures the statistics used by SQL Server for efficient retrieval of data is up to date. This can take time to perform on large databases. Cancellation is allowed during the process. Click Management Configuration Screen>Cleanup. Wait for Maintenance To Complete. The maintenance can take some time to complete on larger databases, so a progress dialogue will be shown as it progresses. Option: To cancel, click Cancel. Summary Your Workstation installation of ARGUS Enterprise 11.7.0 is now complete. You may now remove the user from the Admin group if desired. Copyright 2017 ARGUS Software Inc Altus Group 34
