This rack has tw Pwer Supply slts and backplane slts divided int tw separate sectins, each having a Pwer Supply slt and 6 backplane slts. The Redundant rack is designed t prvide easy integratin f 3rd party VME mdules int an IC697 PLC system. Integratin f 3rd Party VME mdules must be in accrdance with guidelines which are described in the User s Guide t Integratin f 3rd Party VME Mdules. Backplane cnnectrs are spaced n 0.8 inch centers t accmmdate VME mdules. IC697 mdules each use tw f these slts. N mre than three VME mdules can be used in a rack with IC697 mdules. The flexibility f these racks t allw bth VME and IC697 mdules is accmplished thrugh the use f jumpers n the backplane and the Blank Slt Interrupt Jumper Assembly (IC697ACC7) t cnfigure slts. The VME Redundant rack is factry cnfigured t accept IC687 VME mdules. Integratin f 3rd party VME mdules is dne by mving jumpers (next t cnnectrs) t different psitins. Tw racks can be intercnnected t share a single pwer supply fr applicatins having extended I/O requirements. A Pwer Supply Extensin Cable kit (IC697CBL700) is available fr such applicatins. Each rack prvides slt sensing fr rack-type I/O mdules. N jumpers r DIP switches n the I/O mdules are required fr addressing f these mdules. Overall rack dimensins are.5 H x 9 W x 7.5 D (83mm x 83mm x 8mm). Slts are 0.8 wide except fr the pwer supply slt which is. wide, and CPU slt which is.6 wide. One cnnectr is nt installed t accmmdate the CPU s width. The fllwing figures shw munting dimensins fr the rear munt (Figure ) and the frnt munt (Figure ) racks. a7 9. Sufficient space must be left arund the rack as shwn in Figures and t allw air flw fr mdule cling. A Rack Fan Assembly (IC697ACC7 (0 VAC) r IC697ACC7 (0 VAC)) is available fr installatins requiring frced air cling (see data sheet GFK-0637 fr detailed infrmatin n the fan assembly). The munting requirements (either frnt r rear munt) must be determined accrding t the applicatin, and the prper rack rdered. Munting flanges are an integral part f rack side panels and are installed at the factry.

3 GFK-7B January 000 These racks accmmdate tw I/O mdule types. First, rack-type IC697 high-density I/O mdules, which use a detachable field wiring terminal bard. Each I/O mdule will accept up t frty AWG # (.0 mm ) wires. The wire bundle is ruted ut the bttm f the terminal bard cavity where a cleat is prvided fr a tie wrap t secure the bundle t the terminal bard husing. The default cnfiguratin fr each f these signals is shwn fllwing the table. Table n the next page lists all f the jumpers and their assciated slts. Table. Bus Grant 0-3/ and IACK/ D (BG) JP7-0, and JP6-65 (IACK/) JP and JP56 Since there are n cnnectrs munted in spare slts PL and PL, the jumpers fr these slts (JP7 0; and JP6 65) must be left in place. A cnfiguratin selectin cnsists f a jumper plug which is placed ver tw adjacent pins. In sme cases (such as LWORD jumper), this pin is placed ver f 3 in-line pins; ther selectins require the jumper plugs t be present r nt be present. Factry default jumper psitins are shwn belw with shaded areas representing a jumper that is present. The cnfiguratin example shwn belw is fr the leftmst rack sectin. Refer t Table fr jumper numbers and their functins. () Standard Cnfiguratin This cnfiguratin cnsists f an IC697 CPU r Bus Receiver in Slt (PL3 and PL) f bth sides, and IC697 mdules in the remaining applicable slts (PL5 t PL8 and PL3 t PL6). Since IC697 mdules each require tw slts, nly the CPU (r Bus Receiver) and tw additinal IC697 mdules will fit per each side. Standard Cnfiguratin Jumper Psitins Refer t Figure which is an example f jumper psitins and numbers per slt. Rack ID jumpers JP - JP (Left side) and JP6 - JP9 (Right side) jumpered t the prper psitin fr Rack IDs. SYSFAIL/ jumpers remain in their default psitins (as shipped frm factry). This allws the SYSFAIL signal t be activated by the IC697 CPU JP0 and JP55 remain in their default psitins. This jumpers the LWORD/ signal in slt t be inactive allwing nly 6-bit wide data transfers All ther jumpers remain in their factry set default psitins () IC697/VME Cnfiguratin This cnfiguratin cnsists f an IC697 CPU r Bus Receiver mdule in slts PL3 and PL with a cmbinatin f IC697 mdules and VME mdules, including 3rd party VME in the remaining slts. IC697 mdules can be placed in slts PL5 t PL8 and PL3 t PL6 nly. VME mdules can use the VME slts PL5 t PL9 and PL3 t PL7. Nte that all slts have a jumper that allws yu t disable

7 GFK-7B January 000 the SYFAIL/ signal t that slt by remving the apprpriate jumper. Nte Integratin f 3rd Party mdules must be in accrdance with guidelines described in the User s Guide t Integratin f 3rd Party VME Mdules. IC697/VME Jumper Psitins Rack ID jumpers JP - JP (Left side) and JP6 - JP9 (Right side) jumpered t the prper psitin fr Rack IDs. Sysfail jumpers (see Table ) remain in default psitin (as shipped frm factry). This allws the SYS- FAIL/ signal t be activated by the IC697 CPU (SYS- FAIL required by IC697 I/O mdules). JP0 and JP55 remain in their default psitin. This jumpers the LWORD/ signal in slt t inactive (fr IC697 mdules) allwing nly 6-bit wide data transfers. If IC697 mdules that use the signals IRQ/ - IRQ/ are installed in slts PL5 t PL8 (Left side) r PL3 t PL6 (Right side), yu must install up t fur jumpers, as apprpriate, in psitins that are lcated t the immediate left f the IC697 slts in use. Blank Slt Interrupt Jumpers must be installed in unused slts. Jumpers JP and JP56 prvide a path fr Bus Grant and IACK signals acrss unused spare slts PL and PL and shuld be left in place. (3) VME Cnfiguratin This cnfiguratin cnsists f a 3rd party Cntrller in slt PL3 r PL and 3rd party VME mdules in the remaining slts. Nte that each slt has a jumper that allws the SYSFAIL/ signal t be disabled t that slt since all VME mdules may nt require access t that signal. Pwer Supply Extensin Cable Fr applicatins requiring tw racks, ne pwer supply may be sufficient t supply bth racks. This tw-rack peratin frm a single pwer supply can be implemented nly if the secnd rack requires+5 vlts at 5. amperes r less. The secnd rack cannt be supplied with ± vlts using this methd because the Pwer Supply Extensin Cable des nt prvide cnnectins t thse vltages. Nte Althugh there are tw pwer supplies in this redundant rack, pwer t a secnd rack wuld be supprted slely by the leftmst pwer supply. The rightmst pwer supply wuld cntribute n pwer t the secnd rack. A 3-ft Pwer Supply Extensin cable is available (see Ordering Infrmatin n the last page f this data sheet) which prvides the necessary intercnnectin. In additin t +5 vlt pwer, the extensin cable includes pwer sequencing signals necessary fr prper system peratin. It des nt supply ± vlt pwer. The Pwer Supply Extensin cable attaches t a 9-pin D type cnnectr lcated n the backplane. Access t the cnnectr is thrugh a hle in the left side f the rack as shwn in the utline drawing (Figures and ). Adequate clearance (apprximately 6 inches) must be prvided n the left side f the rack fr access t the cnnectr. This cnnectr can als be used t prvide pwer t a user installed 3rd party J backplane. An ptin kit (IC697ACC75) is available fr installing a J backplane r making ribbn cable cnnectins. Maximum pwer that can be supplied t the J backplane is 5 VDC at 5. amps.

8 GFK-7B January 000 The Pwer Supply Extensin cable must be secured befre pwer is applied. It must nt be discnnected during system peratin. Slt Addressing The IC697 PLC system allws user cnfiguratin f I/O pint references fr mdules in a rack withut the need fr bard address DIP switches r jumpers. Cnfiguratin is dne with the MS-DOS r Windws prgramming sftware cnfiguratr functin. Fr mre infrmatin n cnfiguratin, see the Prgramming Sftware User s Manual. Nte In rder t cnfigure slts PL t PL9 and PL t PL7, yu must have release.0 r later f MS-DOS prgramming sftware. Rack Number This redundant rack cntains tw sectins, left and right, that are each treated like a separate PLC. If used as a CPU rack, each side must be assigned Rack 0. If additinal (nn-cpu) racks are used, each must be assigned a unique rack number frm t 7. The PLC determines the rack number f each side f this redundant rack frm tw sets f fur binary-encded cnfigurable jumpers n the rack s backplane. These are JP- fr the Left side and JP6-9 fr the Right side. a83 These jumpers are lcated n the backplane directly behind each pwer supply, which must be remved t gain access t the jumpers. T set the rack number, mve the jumpers crrespnding t,,, and 8 bits t either the 0 r psitin. The sum f the digits in the psitin equals the desired rack number. Fr example, rack number 5 wuld have the and bit jumpers in the psitin and the and 8 bit jumpers in the 0 psitin. Shield Grund The bttm rail f the rack is used fr mdule shield grunding. Sme IC697 I/O mdules have a grund clip that cntacts the cnductive bttm rail when the mdule is fully inserted. Shield cnnectins in the user cnnectrs are ruted t this grund clip thrugh cnductrs n the mdule. Safety Grund The grund lug n either side f the rack must be cnnected t earth grund with nt less than an AWG # (3.33 mm ) wire. The grund lugs are #8-3. Warning If the grund lug is nt cnnected t earth grund, the rack is nt grunded. The rack must be grunded t minimize electrical shck hazard which may result in severe persnal injury. 0 8 RACK NUMBER = Figure. Rack Number Jumpers System Nise Immunity Three easy steps must be taken t prperly grund the IC697 PLC system t reduce the pssibility f errrs due t electrical nise.. Make sure that the pwer supply munting screws, especially the bttm tw, are prperly secured.. The GND terminal n the pwer supply must be cnnected t the GND terminal n either side f the rack using AWG # (3.33 mm ) wire. Use f a ring terminal and star washer is recmmended. 3. Mdule Retentin I/O mdules have mlded latches that autmatically snap nt the upper and lwer rails f the rack when the mdule is fully inserted. 3rd party VME mdules d nt have these latches. Optinally, M.5x8 screws may be used t secure the mdules t the rack fr high vibratin applicatins. T remve an IC697 r IC687 mdule, first remve the field half f the terminal bard (if it is an I/O mdule), then grasp the tp and bttm f the mdule t depress the latch releases while pulling the mdule ut. Warning D nt remve (r insert) mdules when either the IC697 pwer supply r any externally-cnnected pwer surces are n. Hazardus vltages may exist. Persnal injury, damage t the mdule r unpredictable peratin f the device r prcess being cntrlled may result. If M.5x8 screws have been used t secure mdules t the rack, remve the screws befre remving the mdules. A blank faceplate is available t cver tw cnsecutive unused slts in the rack. Rack Fan Assembly 9 GFK-7B January 000 An ptinal Rack Fan Assembly is available in tw versins (IC697ACC7, 0 VAC peratin and IC697ACC7, 0 VAC peratin) fr installatin n the bttm f the rack fr additinal cling if frced air cling is required when a number f high-pwer VME mdules are installed in the rack and heat build-up culd be a prblem. The fan assembly cnsists f three fans wired in parallel. The fans have a lw nise level and are assembled using ball bearings fr extended life. The three fans n the fan assembly are wired in parallel. The fan n the left (lking at frnt f rack) has a three ft cable t be wired t the AC pwer surce. The ther tw fans are cnnected thrugh a cable/cnnectr assembly t this fan. It is recmmended that the fans be wired t the same surce f pwer as the IC697 PLC s that the fans are energized regardless f whether r nt the PLC is energized. This will ensure that the fans are running when the PLC is active. The psitin f the fan assembly munted n a rack is shw belw. Nte that it is munted n the bttm f the rack with air flw frm the bttm twards the tp f the rack.
