Clearing Browser Cache Before you begin Cache - How it can help Entire websites or elements of webpages such as images (buttons or icons) and photos are stored locally on your computer hard drive in area called browser cache or temporary internet files. When accessing websites the local cache is checked for copies and if found loads the site from hard disk rather than over the internet for faster website browsing and less data transfer. Occasionally the cache can cause page load issues, for a number of reasons, or become corrupt. Clearing your cache is one of the first troubleshooting steps necessary to resolve page load issues. Forcing Refresh You can use browser shortcut keys to reload pages from the web server rather than local cache if you re experiencing page issues. This is dependent upon your operating system, simply press the relevant key combination below to reload page content from the server. Windows: Ctrl+F5 Mac/Apple: Apple+R or Command+R Saved Passwords If you depend upon a browser for saved passwords that are automatically filled in when you sign into a website ensure you know what these passwords are prior to completely clearing the cache. Tips for clearing browser cache. While this document outlines how to clear cache for the most current browser versions as at February 2017, if you are using older or mobile versions you can see instructions for accessing browser settings from http://www.refreshyourcache.com/en/home/ you can also find what browser you re using by visiting https://whatbrowser.org/ It is advisable though to clear your cache completely as is describe below. Attempt a forced refresh first, if the problem exists proceed to clear your browser cache. You can set most browsers to clear the cache every time the browser is closed.
