MegaTrack Quick Start Guide This document will help you quickly install and test the MegaTrack software. For additional information regarding the operation and configuration of MegaTrack, refer to the MegaTrack Administrator Guide. Getting Started Installation Preparation Before you begin installation, verify the following: A local printer is installed and functioning correctly on the system using a local (LPT1, USB) or TCP/IP port. Internet Information Services (IIS) is installed, or you have a Windows Setup CD. The latest version of the.net Framework 2.0 is installed with the most current service pack. Download installation files and updates for.net from www.microsoft.com, or use Microsoft Windows Update. You are logged onto the system as Administrator prior to installing the software. Hardware Requirements and Software Prerequisites Adequate hardware requirements and software prerequisites must be met before installing MegaTrack. To verify your system meets these specifications, follow the procedure below: 1. Put the MegaTrack CD in the CD-ROM drive of the client system. If you have the MegaTrack Install files but not the original MegaTrack CD, locate the folder containing the MegaTrack install files and double-click on default.htm to launch the install program. 2. After a moment, the MegaTrack setup screen should appear in your Internet browser. 3. Verify hardware requirements are sufficient by clicking the Hardware requirements link in the left menu. 4. To display the software prerequisites, click the Pre-Requisites link in the left menu. Software Installation Verification Before installing MegaTrack, the following must be present on the system: Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) SP4 or newer (located on MT CD) Internet Information Services (IIS).NET Framework 2.0 Microsoft SQL 2005 Reporting Service NOTE: Microsoft SQL 2005 Reporting Service is only required to use External Reporting functions. To verify these components are installed, refer to the following procedures. Otherwise, proceed directly to the section Installing MegaTrack. 7
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) NOTE: If you already have Microsoft SQL Server installed on your system, you do not need to install MSDE 2000. 1. To verify whether MSDE 2000 is installed on your system, click Start then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs. 3. In the list of currently installed programs, you should see Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000). Figure 1 Microsoft SQL Server is installed 4. If this item is not listed, then it is not installed. Refer to the Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine section for instructions on installing the MSDE 2000. 5. If MSDE 2000 is present, double-click the SQL Server icon in the bottom right toolbar. 6. Verify that both SQL Server and SQL Server Agent services are currently running. Internet Information Services (IIS) Verify that IIS installed correctly by performing the following procedure: 1. Launch your internet browser and type http://localhost in the Address field. 2. If IIS is installed, the following page should display: Figure 2 IIS Verification page 3. If necessary, refer to the section Installing Internet Information Services (IIS) for instructions on installing IIS. 8
NOTE: If you are using a proxy server, you may be unable to see this page even if IIS is installed properly. To bypass the proxy server, perform the following procedure: 1. Launch your web browser, click Tools, and select Internet Options 2. Click the Connections tab and select LAN Settings 3. Check the box to Use a proxy server for your LAN, then check Bypass proxy server for local addresses 4. Click OK If you are still unable to see the page, it may be necessary to restore the browser or default settings in Internet Options using the following steps: 1. Launch your web browser, click Tools, and select Internet Options 2. Click the Security tab, then click Default Level 3. Select the Advanced tab and click Restore Defaults 4. Click OK.NET Framework To verify whether the.net Framework 2.0 is installed, perform the following steps: 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then select Add or Remove Programs. 2. If.NET Framework 2.0 appears in the list of installed programs, it is installed. 3. If.NET Framework 2.0 does not appear, download the files from www.microsoft.com or use Microsoft Windows Update to install them. 4. Ensure the service pack is SP1 or newer. Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine NOTE: The default password for MSDE 2000 is SA. If you wish to set your own password, follow these steps: 1. Put the MegaTrack CD in the CD-ROM drive of the client system. If you have the MegaTrack Install files but not the original MegaTrack CD, locate the folder containing the MegaTrack install files. 2. Locate the MSDE 2000 folder on the CD and copy it to a local drive. 3. Right-click on the setup.ini file, select Properties, and uncheck the read-only attribute. Click OK to accept the change. 4. Using a text editor, open the setup.ini file and locate the line SAPWD=SA. 5. Change SA to your desired password. 6. Save setup.ini and proceed with the installation by clicking on setup.exe Use the following steps to install MSDE 2000: 1. From the main MegaTrack screen in your browser, click the Pre-Requisites link in the left menu. 2. Select Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000). SP4 or newer must be installed. Update as necessary to meet this requirement. 3. When asked whether to Open or Save, choose Open. 4. After the installation has completed, you must reboot the system as described in the following section. 9
Starting MSDE 2000 After MSDE 2000 has been properly installed, it must be started. Once this has been accomplished, the service will automatically start whenever the system boots. 1. Double-click the SQL Server icon at the bottom on the right side of the tool bar. The SQL Server Service Manager will display: Figure 3 SQL Server Service Manager 2. Click the Services drop down menu, select SQL Server, and ensure it is running. 3. Check the box to Auto-start service when OS starts. 4. Click the Services drop down menu, select SQL Server Agent, and ensure that it is running. 5. Check the box to Auto-start service when OS starts, then close the SQL Service Manager. 6. Click on Start, navigate to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. 7. Right-click on SQLSERVERAGENT and select Properties. 8. Select the Logon tab, click on This account:, and enter the Windows domain account name and password. 9. Click OK. 10
Installing Internet Information Services (IIS) The procedure for installing Internet Information Services (IIS) varies, depending on which version of Windows is used. Windows 2000 To install IIS on Windows 2000: 1. Click Start, Control Panel, then select Add or Remove Programs. 2. Click Add or Remove Windows Components. Figure 4 Windows Components Wizard 3. Check the box for Internet Information Services (IIS), then click Details. Figure 5 Select IIS Components 4. Ensure World Wide Web Service is checked. 5. If you will be using SecureJet, check the box for File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service, click OK, then click Next. CAUTION: FTP service must be installed and running or installation will halt. 6. If prompted, insert the Windows Setup CD in the CD-ROM drive. 7. Verify IIS is properly installed by following the instruction in the Internet Information Services (IIS) section of this guide. 11
Windows 2003 Server Follow the procedure below if installing IIS on Windows 2003 Server. 1. Click Start, Control Panel, then select Add or Remove Programs. 2. Click Add or Remove Windows Components. 3. Check the box for Application Server, then click Details. Figure 6 Select Application Server 4. If you will be using Quota, check the box ASP.NET 5. Check the box for Internet Information Services (IIS), then click Details. 6. If you will be using SecureJet, check the box for File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service. 7. Click World Wide Web Service and click Details. 8. Check Active Server Pages and WebDav Publishing. Figure 7 Select Web Services 9. Click OK, OK, OK, then Next. 10. If prompted, insert the Windows Setup CD in the CD-ROM drive. 11. Verify IIS is properly installed by following the instruction in the Internet Information Services (IIS) section of this guide. 12
Windows 2008/2008R2 Use the following steps to install MegaTrack on a Windows 2008/2008R2 operating system: 1. Add the Web Server (IIS) role to the server. Select all the IIS 7 components shown in the following image: Figure 8 Add Web Server role 2. Install the Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1. This package includes the.net Framework 2.0 SP1 needed by MegaTrack. 13
Figure 9 Install Microsoft.NET Framework 3. Install and allow the WebDAV component on the Windows 2008 server if HTTP should be used to push the files coming from MPS, MIPA, MPC, or DTM. NOTE: The WebDAV component is included on 2008R2. For 2008, it must be installed separately as an additional IIS 7.0 component on the server. Click the following link for more information about Microsoft WebDAV 7.5 for IIS 7.0: http://learn.iis.net. Follow steps 1, 2, and3 in the Enabling WebDAV Publishing by Using IIS Manager section. There is no need to add an authoring rule for the default website. Ignore the Logging in to Your WebDav Site section. 4. Run the MegaTrack setup to install the application when IIS 7 and WebDAV are installed. NOTE: The security on Windows 2008 requires that only an administrator can launch installation. To become an administrator, right-click the setup file and select Run as administrator. 5. Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and locate Default Web Site when the MegaTrack installation is complete. 6. Click the tempmt virtual folder, and double-click the WebDAV Authoring Rules icon. 7. Click Add Authoring Rule in the Actions menu on the right. 8. Select All content and All users and select Read, Source, and Write in the Permissions sections. 9. Click OK to finish. 14
Figure 10 Edit WebDAV Authoring Rules 10. Double-click the tempmt virtual folder to return to the tempmt home. 11. Locate and double-click the Authentication icon. 12. Check to see that the status of Windows Authentication is Enabled. Be sure to use a valid domain account to push data to the MegaTrack DS from the different collectors (MPS, DTM, or MPC). 13. Configure the tempmt virtual folder to use Basic Authentication if MIPA will be used on installation. Use a valid domain account to configure the push on the MIPA collector. 14. Click Edit to configure the Basic Authentication default domain. 15. A valid domain account is required to push the MIPA files to the MegaTrack DS. Type the user account in the Login field; do not type the domain. NOTE: MIPA uses Windows Basic Authentication and the domain name already specified in the IIS configuration. Installing MegaTrack The MegaTrack Database Server and Web Server are required components. The MegaTrack Database Server may be installed in default or advanced mode. For distinctions between default and advanced modes, see the Database Server section in this guide. The MegaTrack Database Server (MDS) must be installed before the MegaTrack Print Server is installed on a separate machine. All other components are optional and may be installed in any sequence. If using If using MIPA or SecureJet, the MegaTrack AutoUpload Server must be installed on the same machine as the MDS. NOTE: Before installing MegaTrack, print a test page to ensure your printers are functioning correctly. NOTE: Instructions for Customized Installation and Single Computer Installation follow in separate sections of this document. 1. In the MegaTrack CD browser, click on the MegaTrack link in the left menu. 2. When asked whether to Open or Save, choose Open. 3. After reading the license agreement, click Yes to accept. 4. Select the desired installation directory or accept the default and click Next. 5. Select the preferred installation setup for the MegaTrack components, then click Next. Customized Installation After the main MegaTrack Database Server (MDS) has been installed, additional system components such as the MegaTrack Print Server (MPS), MegaTrack Web Server (MWS), and Direct Tracking Module (DTM) can be installed on separate systems by choosing Custom Installation. 1. After choosing Custom Installation, select the components you would like to install on the system and click Next. Figure 13 Choose Components to Install 2. Type a new name or keep the default name for the Program Folder that will contain the program icons, and click Next. Figure 14 Program Folder Name 3. Review the System Setup information and click Next to begin copying files. Figure 15 System Setup Information 4. If installing the Direct Tracking Module, Web Server, or Print Server components, enter the IP address or computer name of the machine with the MegaTrack Database Server and click Next to complete Customized Installation. 17
Database Server Default Mode The MegaTrack Database Server can be local on the MegaTrack server or remote. If you install the database on a remote server, the MegaTrack Agent service will be installed by default. If you keep (local), the SQL Server Agent will be used by default. With the database in local or remote SQL Server, you can choose Windows authentication or SQL authentication. On a standalone installation or custom installation with Database Server not in Advanced mode, SQL Server Agent will be used by default and a SQL login will be created with sysadmin permissions. Advanced Mode MegaTrack Database Server installs a local database and creates a SQL login with sysadmin permissions, using SQL Agent. By default, MegaTrack uses SQL Server Agent to schedule jobs and queries. If SQL Server Agent is used, MegaTrack will create a SQL Server login with sysadmin permissions in order to execute scripting jobs. Select Database Server (Advanced Mode) to set up the database on a local or remote SQL Server. In Advanced Mode, MDS,MWS, and Auto-Upload Server will be installed on the same server. MegaTrack Database Server (Advanced Mode) allows you to create a local or remote database and choose between SQL Agent and MegaTrack Agent. In Advanced mode, SQL Server Agent is not required. MegaTrack will install the MegaTrack Agent service to replace SQL Server Agent. This service does not require a SQL login with sysadmin permissions. To install the MegaTrack Agent service on a local database, replace (local) with SERVERNAME or (local)\instancename with SERVERNAME\InstanceName.. If the server or the instance name does not appear in the list, close the window and click Browse again. 18
Figure 17 Database Server and authentication Figure 18 Target Database Server Figure 19 Database configuration Local SQL Server using (local) If Windows authentication or SQL authentication is used with either MDS or MDS (Advanced), MegaTrack will create a SQL login with sysadmin permissions to connect to the database. SQL Agent will be used. Local SQL Server using SERVERNAME If Windows authentication or SQL authentication is used, MegaTrack will not create a SQL login and will use Windows authentication to connect to the database. MegaTrack agent will be used SQL Server Agent will not be used. 19
Remote SQL Server If the remote SQL Server is running SQL 2005 version, the database must be created using a SQL login with sysadmin or bulkadmin permissions. The setup will not create a SQL login for MegaTrack, and a trusted connection will be used with named pipes. The MegaTrack Agent must be started with a domain account to connect to the remote database. If the remote server is running SQL 2000 version, either Windows or SQL authentication can be used to create the database. The setup will not create a SQL login for MegaTrack, and a trusted connection will be used with named pipes. The MegaTrack Agent must be started with a domain account to connect to the remote database. How to configure database access when MegaTrack is installed using a remote SQL Server When the MegaTrack database is installed on a remote server, the database connection must be configured for the following activities: To allow MegaTrack to process job accounting files To allow the end user to connect to the MegaTrack website to schedule and view reports Two methods are available to connect to the remote database: Windows authentication and SQL authentication Using Windows Authentication (default) When Windows authentication is used, anonymous authentication must be enabled in IIS using a windows account with database access to the MWS database. The MegaTrack Agent service must be started with the same account. 1. Create a windows account with dbo access to the MegaTrack (MWS) database 2. Log on to the MegaTrack application server using this login 3. Run MT_Config.exe (c:\program files\captech\megatrack\tools) 4. Select Windows authentication 5. Uncheck Use LocalSystem account 6. Enter the windows account user and password created in step 1 to replace 'LocalSystem', this login will be used to start the MegaTrack Agent service and for Anonymous Authentication in IIS. 7. Check Enable IIS anonymous authentication 8. Check Restart services after update Using SQL Authentication When SQL authentication is used, the SQL password will be stored non-encrypted in the MegaTrack Agent service configuration file (MT_Agent.exe.config). The MegaTrack application will store the SQL password encrypted in the registry. 1. Create a SQL user and password on the remote SQLServer and give this account dbo access to the MegaTrack database (MWS) 2. Run MT_Config.exe (c:\program files\captech\megatrack\tools) 3. Select SQL Authentication, input the SQL login and password. 4. Uncheck Use LocalSystem account 5. Enter a windows domain user account and password to replace 'LocalSystem'. This login will be used to start the MegaTrack Agent service. This step is required for Active Directory connection and if polling mode is selected. This login does not requires any access to the database. 6. Uncheck Enable IIS anonymous authentication 7. Check Restart services after update 20
Common Steps for Windows and SQL authentication 1. Click Test connection and check for error messages. Three popup messages are displayed. The first message is the OLEDB connection string to the database and is displayed for information purposes. The second message is the database connection test using the selected authentication. The third message is the windows login and password and is displayed only if Use LocalSystem account is unchecked. If any errors are reported for the database connection and MegaTrack agent login, verify that the login has access to the database and credentials to start a service. 2. Click on Update Configuration. A series of 6 popup messages will be displayed: Database connection updated successfully Service login changed successfully IIS anonymous authentication changed successfully MegaTrack Agent updated successfully MegaTrack Agent service restarted w3svc service restarted 3. Log on to MegaTrack and run a simple report. 21
Single Computer Installation This section continues with the MegaTrack installation installing the MegaTrack Database Server, Web Server, and Print Server onto a single system. 1. Type a new name or keep the default name for the Program Folder that will contain the program icons, and click Next. Figure 20 Designate Program Folder 2. System and setup information will now be displayed. Click Next to begin copying the files. Figure 21 System and setup information 3. MegaTrack installation is complete. 22
MegaTrack Print Client (MPC) Installation Although MegaTrack can see and track all printers connected to a network, local printers connected to PCs through USB or LPT1 are effectively invisible. The MegaTrack Print Client (MPC) can be installed on these PCs, where it will track local print activity and upload it to the MegaTrack Database Server. 1. To install the MPC on a network PC, launch MegaTrack Print Client by clicking on Setup.exe on the MegaTrack Setup CD. 2. Read the End User License Agreement. If you agree to the terms, click Yes to advance to the next screen. Figure 22 End User License Agreement 3. Choose a path to install the files, or accept the default. Click Next when finished. Figure 23 Choose Installation path 4. Accept the default folder to install the files, or enter a new folder name. Click Next when finished. 5. Wait while the MPC program files are uncompressed and transferred to the client PC. Figure 24 Transferring MPC Program Files 23
6. Select the preferred configuration mode: port processor, port monitor, or manual configuration. Click Next to continue. Figure 25 Select Configuration Mode 7. Select either HTTP or FTP as the desired transfer protocol to upload print data to the MegaTrack Database Server. Click Next to continue. Figure 26 Select Transfer Protocol 8. Enter the IP address of the MegaTrack Database Server. Click Next to complete the installation and configuration. Figure 27 Server Identification When the installation is complete, local print activity will be tracked and automatically uploaded. NOTE: Repeat the above steps to install on additional PCs. 24
Printer Configuration This section explains how to select the printers that MegaTrack will track. This is only necessary if Manual configuration was chosen during MPC installation. 1. Launch the Printer configuration application by clicking Start, select All Programs, navigate to MegaTrack, then select Printer Configuration. 2. In the top-right section of the Printers configuration screen, select Print Processor. Figure 28 Printer configuration 3. Select a printer name in the Windows Printers list and click Configure printer. 4. After a moment, the printer name moves from the left list to the right list. 5. Close the Printers configuration application. 6. MegaTrack will now track the selected printer. 25
Testing MegaTrack After MegaTrack has been installed and configured, follow the procedure below to verify it is operating correctly. 1. Print a test page on the MegaTrack printer by selecting Start, then select Printers and Faxes. 2. Right-click the MegaTrack printer, click Properties on the drop-down menu, then click Print Test Page. 3. Double-click the MegaTrack icon on your desktop to launch the MegaTrack interface. 4. Log in to MegaTrack by entering Admin for both the user name and password. NOTE: The password field is case-sensitive. 5. Select Print organization from the left menu. 6. Verify that both the Print Server and the MegaTrack Printer are displayed. 7. Click Administration in the left menu. Figure 29 Print organization 8. Select Schedule job retrieval at the top of the page. 9. For Interval, enter 1 and select minute(s). Figure 30 Schedule job retrieval 10. After a minute has passed, the print job should appear in the database. 11. To check if the job is in the database, select New Query in the left menu. 12. Click Users at the top of the page. 13. In the list of queries, select Detailed list of printed documents; then click default mode at the bottom. 14. When the query is completed, click Result display. This will display the details of the test page you just printed. NOTE: If you have Microsoft Excel, you can click the Other Display Types button to save the file as *.xls or open the file in Excel. 26
Licensing MegaTrack Perform the steps below to officially license MegaTrack: 1. From the Windows Start menu, select All Programs, navigate to MegaTrack, then select MegaTrack License. The following screen will appear: Figure 31 MegaTrack licensing screen 2. Copy the text from the ID Key field and email it to register@capellatech.com 3. After your license has been processed, you will be emailed an Activation Key. Copy and paste the supplied text string into the Activation Key field. 4. Click Insert activation key. MegaTrack is now fully licensed and ready to use for commercial purposes. 27
