Using the Export Settings Dialog When you click Options, WMV Export displays the Windows Media Export Settings dialog with four panels: Video, Audio, Content, and License. You can view the settings or make changes to the settings. Click OK to use these settings for this export operation. Using the Video Settings Panel Use the Video Settings panel to control how the video track is encoded in the Windows Media file you re exporting. The Video Settings panel will be disabled if your source media does not contain a video track. Note that some options are only available in the Pro/HD version. If the media is audio-only, uncheck Export using, and set up your audio settings in the Audio tab. Export using: Check to create a video track in the Windows Media file and select the desired video codec. Coding method: Select from one-pass, two-pass, CBR or VBR encoding methods. Quality: Select the visual quality for video (see below). Bit rate: Specify the bit rate for CBR encoding. Key frame every: Specify the maximum number of seconds between key frames. Input Frame Type: Specify the type of video frames in your source media. Output Frame size: Select the size of encoded video. Rate: Select the frame rate of the encoded video. Type: Select the type of video you want to export. Quality in Constant & Variable Bit Rate Encoding In CBR encoding, you set the bit rate as a fixed value, and the encoder dynamically adjusts the quality to maintain that bit rate. The encoder maintains the bit rate by adjusting the quality of each frame or by dropping frames completely. In CBR modes, the quality slider emphasizes which method the encoder should use. Smoother quality produces better motion, but potentially reduces image quality. Sharper quality produces better images, but potentially drops more frames. In VBR encoding, you set the quality as a fixed value (using the quality slider). The bit rate is determined dynamically, based on the size, frame rate, and complexity of the frames. Using the Audio Settings Panel Use the Audio Settings panel to control how the audio track is encoded in the Windows Media file you re exporting. The Audio Settings panel will be disabled if your source media does not contain an audio track. Note that some options are only available in the Pro/HD version. If the media is video-only, uncheck Export using, and set up your video settings in the Video tab. Export using: Check to create an audio track in the Windows Media file and select the desired audio codec. This option is not available if the source does not contain an audio track.
