Important notes for users in the U.K. Mains plug This apparatus is fitted with an approved 13 Amp plug.to change a fuse in this type of plug proceed as follows: 1. Remove fuse cover and fuse. 2. Fix new fuse which should be a BS1362 5 Amp, A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type. 3. Refit the fuse cover. If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place. If the mains plug contains a fuse, this should have a value of 5 Amp. If a plug without a fuse is used, the fuse at the distribution board should not be greater than 5 Amp. Note:The severed plug must be disposed of to avoid a possible shock hazard should it be inserted into a 13 Amp socket elsewhere. How to connect a plug The wires in the mains lead are coloured with the following code: blue = neutral (N), brown = live (L). As these colours may not correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: Connect the blue wire to the terminal marked N or coloured black. Connect the brown wire to the terminal marked L or coloured red. Do not connect either wire to the earth terminal in the plug, marked E (or e) or coloured green (or green and yellow). Before replacing the plug cover, make certain that the cord grip is clamped over the sheath of the lead - not simply over the two wires. Please observe the local regulations regarding the disposal of packaging, exhausted batteries and old equipment. 650Mb and 700Mb CD-Rs. Directory nesting up to a maximum of 8 levels (max. 64 characters). General information The music compression technology MP3 (MPEG Audio Layer 3) reduces the original digital audio data by a factor up to 10 without losing significant sound quality.this allows you to record up to 10 hours of CD-like quality music on a single CD-ROM. How to get MP3 music Either download legal music files from the internet to your computer harddisc or create them from your own audio CDs. For this, insert an audio CD into your computer s CD-ROM drive and convert the music using an appropriate encoder software.to achieve a good sound quality, a bit rate of 128 kbps or higher is recommended for MP3 music files. Some encoder software offers an option to protect music files, i. e. the files can only be played on the computer which created them. If you burn such files on a CD-ROM, 11

MP3-CD Playback you cannot play them on this set. Make sure to deactivate the protection option in the encoder software before creating the music files. In this case you are responsible for adherence to all local or international copyrights. When burning the MP3-CD For example: 001-ONEWORLD.MP3 002-FIRESTARTER.MP3 003-DEEP.MP3. There may be an album 00 which will be played before all other albums. Album 00 contains all tracks which you did not put into an album. Make sure the file names of the MP3 files end with.mp3. MP3-CD albums and titles are shown as numbers in the display. Multi-session recording & playback: For playback of the last session on multi-session CDs, make sure you have recorded more than 1 track or title in the last session. Make sure you close the session. How to organize MP3 files MP3CD album title You can store up to a maximum number of 40 albums and 400 titles on one MP3-CD. In order to easily handle the large number of music files on a CD-ROM, you can organize them in folders ( albums ). IMPORTANT! This set does not play/support the following: UDF disc format. Non-finalized CD-Rs and CD-RWs. Mixed CD format recordings e.g. CD audio and MP3 tracks combined within a CD-R. Empty albums: an empty album is an album that does not contain MP3 files, and will not be shown in the display. Non-supported file formats are skipped. This means that e.g.: Word documents.doc or MP3 files with extension.dlf are ignored and will not be played. Playlist Files e.g..m3u,.pls of WMA, AAC, Winamp, Sonic, RealJukebox, MS Mediaplayer 7.0, MusicMatch. Recordings created on e.g. DirectCD, PacketWriting and Package Writing. 12 The tracks of an album will be played in alphabetical order. Maintenance Precautions & General Maintenance Place the set on a hard and flat surface so that the system does not tilt. MP3-CD player and CD handling The lens of the CD player should never be touched! Do not expose the set, batteries or CDs to humidity, rain, sand or excessive heat caused by heating equipment or direct sunlight. Do not cover the set. Adequate ventilation with a minimum gap of 6 inches between the ventilation holes and surrounding surfaces is necessary to prevent heat buildup. The mechanical parts of the set contain self-lubricating bearings and must not be oiled or lubricated. To clean the set, use a dry cloth. Do not use any cleaning agents containing alcohol, ammonia, benzene or abrasives as these may harm the housing. Sudden changes in the surrounding temperature can cause condensation to form and the lens of your CD player to cloud over. Playing a disc is then not possible. Do not attempt to clean the lens but leave the set in a warm environment until the moisture evaporates. Always shut the CD door to keep the CD compartment dust-free.to clean, dust the compartment with a soft dry cloth. To take a disc out of its box, press the centre spindle while lifting the disc. Always pick up the disc by the edge and replace the disc back in its box after use to avoid scratching and dust. To clean the disc, wipe in a straight line from the centre towards the edge using a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use cleaning agents as they may damage the disc. Never write on a disc or attach any stickers to it. 16

Troubleshooting If a fault occurs, first check the points listed below before taking the set for repair. If you are unable to remedy a problem by following these hints, consult your dealer or service centre. WARNING: Do not open the set as there is a risk of electric shock.
