Only use approved batteries of the same type (rechargeable), as otherwise battery damage can result (dangerous), see table page 7. The handset s battery compartments feature the following diagrams: g Insert rechargeable batteries correctly in accordance with polarity symbols. h Operate battery type in accordance with these operating instructions. Do not use non-siemens charging devices, as this could damage the batteries. Batteries heat up during charging this is a normal occurrence and is not dangerous. The handset can affect medical equipment. The handset can cause unpleasant humming in hearing aids. Do not operate the handset in environments where there is risk of explosion, such as a paint shop. Inserting the batteries Never use ordinary (non-rechargeable) batteries. Only use approved batteries of the same type (rechargeable), as otherwise battery damage can result (dangerous), see table page 7. The handset s battery compartments feature the following diagrams: g Insert rechargeable batteries correctly in accordance with polarity symbols. h Operate battery type in accordance with these operating instructions. Do not use non-siemens charging devices, as this could damage the batteries. Please dispose of old, defective batteries in an environmentally friendly manner in accordance with the relevant legislation. Insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity see figure on left. Insert the battery cover approx. 3 mm into the battery compartment and slide it upwards until it clicks into place. To open the battery cover, press the grooved area on the cover and slide downwards. 6

To charge the batteries, insert the handset in the base station or Gigaset 3000L charging unit (accessory) you will hear the confirmation beep. The charging status icon flashes on the handset display to indicate that a charging operation is in progress: Batteries empty Batteries 2 / 3 charged Batteries 1 / 3 charged Batteries full We recommend initially charging the batteries for at least 16 hours without interruption irrespective of the charging status icon. Once the first charging operation is complete, you can replace the handset in the base station after every call. Charging is controlled electronically. This ensures optimum charging and prolongs battery life. The batteries heat up during charging. The battery charging status is only displayed correctly after uninterrupted charging/discharging. You should therefore avoid opening the battery compartment unnecessarily. Activating/deactivating the handset Press the end call key for 1 second. The handset automatically activates as soon as you insert the batteries and place it in the base station/charging unit. Activating/deactivating keypad protection When keypad protection is activated, the keypad buttons are ineffective. Calls can be accepted with the talk key D. } Hold key down for more than 1 second to activate/deactivate keypad protection. 8

Step 1 First prepare the Siemens base station for registration: Gigaset 3010/pocket 3015 3020, 3025 3030, 3035 ISDN models 1000/2000 models Base station preparation Hold down the coloured base station key for approx. 10 seconds until you hear signal tones. In the base station menu select registration option and confirm. Press the display (LED) flashing during registration. As for relevant successor model. Step 2 You now have one minute to enter the following at the handset: { ~ Press the keys shown. b Enter the base station number, e.g. (station 1-4) and confirm. System PIN b Enter the base station s system PIN and confirm (factory setting: 0000) the unassigned call numbers appear after a few seconds. e.g. s Enter the desired call number the stationary base icon is displayed. Your handset is ready for operation! Please refer to the relevant operating instructions (step 1) to register at non-siemens base stations. You can register your Gigaset 3000 Classic handset at up to 4 different base stations, see above. 9

Press the talk key to start the dial operation. Ending a call: Press the end call key. You can cancel the dial operation with the end call key. You can insert a pause with the recall key 4 (hold it down). You can opt to not save entries, e.g. when checking an account: press the keys ~, all characters entered afterwards are not saved for number redial. Making an internal call { Press the INT key the actual internal call number is displayed. P Enter the internal call number. Press ~ to call all handsets. Ending a call: Press the end call key. Answering a call D or Press the talk key. L remove the handset from the base station/ charging unit if the auto talk feature is activated. 10

Januar 2000 3:31 15 Transferring a call, enquiry call Siemens base stations allow you to transfer an external call to another handset or to conduct an internal enquiry call. { Press the INT key. P Dial the internal call number. When the user answers: transfer the call: press the end call key. enquiry call: press the recall key 4 to revert to the caller on hold. Redial Redialling a number You can access the last five call numbers dialled. 1 Display call numbers. a D Select a call number. If necessary, confirm the number with b and correct it with the delete key. Press the talk key to start the redial operation. Deleting redial numbers All five redial numbers are deleted. y b Tel. PIN b s b Initiate the setting. Enter the telephone PIN and confirm (factory setting: 0000). Delete the redial list. 11

Saving/changing/deleting call numbers - e.g. b P Press the set key followed by the speed dial key. Enter the speed dial number (memory location, digit 0 to 9) or press a to scroll. Confirm the number. Enter a new call number or delete/change an existing call number with. b Save the number. Speed dialling - Display the call numbers. e.g. Enter the speed dial number (0 to 9) or press a to scroll. If necessary, confirm the number with b and dial further digits for the extension number. D Press the talk key to start the dial operation. Saving a call number from the redial list - e.g. b Press the set key followed by the speed dial key. Enter the speed dial number (digit 0 to 9) or press a to scroll and confirm. a b Select the call number (scroll) the other redial numbers are displayed. Save the call number. 12

Call-by-call support Using the speed dial key Hold down the speed dial key - to display the telephone company s call number saved as speed dial number "0". - Hold down the speed dial key the prefix code is displayed. PD Enter the user s call number and press the talk key to dial the "complete" number. By "linking" the speed dial list You can save a number of prefix codes for various telephone companies as speed dial numbers: -ab e.g. -ab D Display the prefix code and confirm. Display the user s call number in the speed dial list and confirm or enter it manually. Press the talk key to dial the complete number. 13

Januar 2000 3:31 15 Security Changing the telephone PIN Important functions/settings are protected by the handset s telephone PIN (Personal Identification Number). Do not forget your telephone PIN! The PIN can only be reset by calling the Siemens hotline, see back cover. s b Tel. PIN b 2x new tel. PIN Activate the function. Enter the current telephone PIN and confirm (factory setting: 0000). Enter the new telephone PIN (4 digits) twice. b Save the new telephone PIN. Activating direct station selection This function is not available in all countries! When direct station selection (DSS) is active, every keystroke triggers a call to the DSS number saved. This function is used to call for help or raise an alarm. Saving/changing/deleting a DSS number: b Tel. PIN b s b P b Select the function. Enter the telephone PIN and confirm (factory settings: 0000). Press the keys shown. Enter or change the DSS number or press to delete it. Save the DSS number direct station selection is activated. The telephone lock is activated if you press b when the _ (empty) icon is displayed. 14

You can still be reached, however. Simply press the talk key D to accept a call. b Tel. PIN b b Select the function. Enter the telephone PIN and confirm (factory setting: 0000). Activate the telephone lock. You can dial all base station emergency numbers. Deactivating the handset lock/direct station selection b Tel. PIN b b Activate the function. Ring tones You can choose between 10 ring tones. Activate the function you will hear the ringer. e.g. Select the ring tones (0 to 9). b Save the setting. Handset volume v You can set the handset volume to any of 3 levels (even during a call). b Activate the function. e.g. s Change the volume (1, 2 or 3). b Save the setting. 16

Base station registrations are maintained. You can choose one of the following settings: Set the handset to automatically select (factory setting) the best base (factory setting). Set the handset to priority base station the handset searches for other base stations if this is not found within 30 seconds. Set the handset to a fixed base station. { Press the set key followed by the INT key. e.g. For example, set base 1 as the priority base. For automatic selection: enter. For priority base: enter the base number twice. For fixed base: enter the base number once. b Save the setting and terminate the function. Switching to tone dialling If you are operating the base station in a telephone system that uses pulse dialling (DP), you can switch to tone dialling (DTMF), e.g. for telephone banking, to check an external answering machine, etc. Prerequisite: a connection is active. ~ Activate tone dialling tone dialling is active until the call is cleared down. 19

The base icon flashes when you move outside this range. Guarantee/service Siemens AG offers a six-month guarantee for this device from the date of purchase from the dealer. Within this period, Siemens AG will rectify all material or manufacturing defects by repairing or replacing the defective terminal. The guarantee shall not cover damage caused by improper use, wear and tear or third party access. The guarantee shall not cover consumables or defects which only slightly decrease the value or serviceability of the device. Service telephone number (see back cover). Siemens Service should only be contacted if problems arise with the unit. Your specialist dealer will be happy to answer any questions on unit operation. Contact your network provider for questions concerning telephone connections. Approval The Gigaset 3000 Classic has received approval for operation throughout the EU. 20
