Obtaining Technical Assistance Obtaining Documentation Use the Cisco Product Identification Tool to locate your product serial number before submitting a request for service online or by phone. You can access this tool from the Cisco Technical Support & Documentation website by clicking the Tools & Resources link, clicking the All Tools (A-Z) tab, and then choosing Cisco Product Identification Tool from the alphabetical list. This tool offers three search options: by product ID or model name; by tree view; or, for certain products, by copying and pasting show command output. Search results show an illustration of your product with the serial number label location highlighted. Locate the serial number label on your product and record the information before placing a service call. Severity 1 (S1) An existing network is down or there is a critical impact to your business operations. You and Cisco will commit all necessary resources around the clock to resolve the situation. Severity 2 (S2) Operation of an existing network is severely degraded, or significant aspects of your business operations are negatively affected by inadequate performance of Cisco products. CHAPTER 1 Introduction Welcome to the Cisco Active Network Abstraction Client Installation Guide. This manual will walk you through a typical Cisco ANA Active Network Abstraction (ANA) Client installation. This chapter describes the Cisco ANA Client application suite. In addition, it provides a brief explanation of the terms used in this guide. Cisco ANA provides a suite of GUI tools that offer a simple, intuitive interface for managing the network and services and performing the required system administration activities. The Cisco ANA Client application suite consists of the following: Cisco ANA NetworkVision, see Cisco ANA NetworkVision. Cisco ANA EventVision, see Cisco ANA EventVision. Cisco ANA Manage. For more information, refer to the Cisco Active Network Abstraction Administrator s Guide. Cisco ANA NetworkVision Cisco ANA NetworkVision is the main GUI for Cisco ANA applications. It provides complete visualization of the managed network and services and supports fault and configuration functionality. It is also the launching point for all related tools such as the Cisco ANA PathTracer, Cisco ANA Command Builder and the Soft Properties Manager. Cisco ANA EventVision Cisco ANA EventVision is a GUI application, which serves as a browser for viewing and retrieving detailed information about the different types of system events and tickets that are generated within the Cisco ANA system. Monitoring Cisco ANA EventVision helps predict and identify the sources of system problems, which in turn assists in preventing future problems. Basic Concepts and Terms The following section describes the terminology used throughout this Installation Guide. 1-1

Basic Concepts and Terms Chapter 1 Introduction Cisco ANA Gateway The Cisco ANA Gateway performs the following functions: Serves as a gateway between OSS/BSS applications and the fabric of Cisco ANA Units. Implements a per-client adapter. Controls client access according to the set security rules. Maps the network to the business logic provided by the client application. Maintains a repository for keeping system settings, snapshots of active alarms and topological data. Cisco ANA Unit The Cisco ANA Unit is a key element of Cisco ANA system. Cisco ANA Units are networked together to create a modular, scalable, high-performance, distributed network knowledge engine for discovery, assurance and activation. Multiple Cisco ANA Units cover the entire network as a single complete entity. Cisco ANA Client The Cisco ANA Client Suite includes GUI-based tools providing total visibility for multi-vendor, multi-layer, multi-technology broadband networks. 1-2

CHAPTER 2 System Requirements Cisco ANA Client The minmum hardware and software installation requirements are provided below. Item Specifications Hardware Requirements (minimum) IBM or PC compatible Pentium IV, 2.66 MHz Processor or better work station 1 GB RAM 2 GB of free disk space DVD Drive 512 MB of free non-virtual memory Screen Minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels True Color (32 bit) setting Software Requirements Operating System Windows 2000 or Windows XP Internet Connection (minimum) A fast internet connection with a minimum bandwidth of 1.5 Mb. Cisco ANA NetworkVision with a configuration 512MB of free-non virtual memory per running instance, supports a maximum of 12K devices, 12K links and 10K tickets (this is the maximum amount across all of the maps that are open). The other Cisco ANA applications require 256MB of free non-virtual memory. Communications Chapter 2 System Requirements Communications The Cisco ANA Clients communicate with the Cisco ANA Gateway only; therefore, IP connectivity between Cisco ANA Clients and the Cisco ANA Gateway should be in place. The Cisco ANA Clients support automatic client updates from the Cisco ANA Gateway and depending on the upgrade the data may be up to 30 MB. There is IP connectivity between the Cisco ANA Gateway Server and the Client station that you are about to install. CHAPTER 4 Installing the Cisco ANA Client This chapter covers the installation of a single Cisco ANA Client station, as well as an Uninstall section. Using the Cisco ANA Client Installation Wizard The Cisco ANA Client Installation Wizard guides you step-by-step through the Cisco ANA Client installation process. Warning Before installing the Cisco ANA Client 3.5.1 the user must uninstall the previous version. For more information about uninstalling see Uninstalling the Cisco ANA Client. To install the Cisco ANA Client Step 1 Insert the Cisco ANA Client Installation DVD into the DVD drive. The Cisco ANA Client Installation Wizard is launched automatically and the Welcome window is displayed. In case the Cisco ANA Client Installation Wizard is not launched automatically, browse to the DVD directory and launch the sheer_webstart.exe executable. Click Cancel at any time to stop the setup process. Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Click Next. The License Agreement window is displayed. Review the license agreement. Click Next to accept the license agreement. The Destination Location window is displayed. The default installation location is: C:/Program Files/Cisco Systems/ANA Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 If you want to change the default installation location, click Browse and choose the preferred installation directory. Click OK after choosing the required directory or click Cancel to return to the default installation location. Click Next to accept the installation directory location. 4-1

What s Next? Chapter 4 Installing the Cisco ANA Client The Select Components window is displayed. Be sure you select the JAVA Runtime option. This window provides the user with the possibility to: Overwrite any older or existing version of Java installed by Cisco Systems, Inc. Installs a new version of Java. Install Cisco ANA NetworkVision and Cisco ANA EventVision (users). Install the Cisco ANA Management Tools, namely, Cisco ANA Manage, and Cisco ANA Shell. Be sure you select the JAVA Runtime option. Step 8 Select one or more of the options according to your preference, and click Next. The Select Program Manager Group window is displayed. The default Program Manager Group is: Cisco ANA. Step 9 Step 10 Step 11 Step 12 To change the default Program Manager Group type in the preference. Click Next. The Start Installation window is displayed. Click Next to start the installation. The Installing window is displayed. When the installation is complete, the final window of the installation is displayed. This window provides the user with the following possibilities: Create a Quick Launch icon for Cisco ANA NetworkVision and the Cisco ANA Manage application on the Quick Launch toolbar. Immediately launch the Cisco ANA NetworkVision application. Select none, one or more of the possibilities according to your preference. Click Finish to end the installation application. What s Next? Once you have completed the Client installation, proceed by completing the deployment of the Cisco ANA using Cisco ANA Manage. Chapter 4 Installing the Cisco ANA Client Upgrading your Current System For detailed information about starting and working with Cisco ANA NetworkVision and Cisco ANA EventVision, refer to the Cisco Active Network Abstraction NetworkVision User s Guide and Cisco Active Network Abstraction EventVision User s Guide. If the user encounters latency problems, the user must close the other applications running on the desktop. Upgrading your Current System The Cisco ANA Clients support automatic client updates from the Cisco ANA Gateway. When connecting with a Cisco ANA Gateway, the system verifies that the client version is the latest available and if an upgrade is required, the system automatically updates the Cisco ANA Clients from the Cisco ANA Gateway. This process may take several minutes. There is no need to upgrade the Cisco ANA Clients manually unless there is a major version change. Uninstalling the Cisco ANA Client You can uninstall all or selected Cisco ANA Client applications, including changing registry keys as required. To uninstall individual application components, you make your selections in the various wizard windows accessed from the Start menu s Cisco ANA sub-menu s Uninstall Cisco ANA Products option. You can also start the uninstall process using the UNWISE.EXE available in the install folder. When you conduct a Custom uninstall, you can select to remove or change the following: Private files (license, and other program files) Directories Remove or retain Registry Database keys Change other registry keys To uninstall the Cisco ANA Client Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Select the Uninstall Cisco ANA Products option from the Start menu s Cisco ANA sub-menu, or Double-click the UNWISE.EXE available in the Cisco Systems/ANA installation folder. The Uninstall window is displayed with the Automatic uninstall option selected by default. To uninstall all Cisco ANA client applications, accept the default by clicking Next. The remove private files window is displayed. (You may uninstall individual Cisco ANA applications, and remove or change registry keys, however, this is not recommended.) To remove all private files, click Select All then click Next. The Perform Uninstall window is displayed. 4-3

The Perform Uninstall window is displayed and the progress bar reflects the status of files being uninstalled. By clicking Cancel at any time, the uninstall process will stop, requiring a new install. Some stranded files may remain on your computer. 4-4
