Unlike previous headspace samplers, the 7697A headspace sampler has no feedback mechanism to prevent the sampler from making an injection when the GC is in the Not Ready state. Setting the GC Cycle Time parameter is critically important. Requirement: It is critical to research, study, and follow all recommendations for determining a realistic GC Cycle Time. See also: PCS 53744 in the Known Issues table. Tested firmware and software The version of 7697A firmware tested with this release is A.01.06 (minimum). The version of G1888A firmware tested with this release is A.01.10 (minimum). Later versions of firmware are expected to work; refer to the Agilent firmware notes for qualification information. This version of the Headspace Control Option software supports Empower 2 and Empower 3 software in English, Japanese, (Simplified) Chinese, and Korean. The computer configurations and operating system support for HCO v3.0 are the same as those tested with Empower 3 Software and Empower 2 Software Feature Release 5 (FR5). For details on supported service packs and incremental operating system and hotfix support, see the Empower 2 and Empower 3 installation and configuration guides. Also consult the relevant software release notes and the Waters Web site (www.waters.com). Requirements: Install Empower software before installing the Headspace Control Option v3.0 software. Install the Headspace Control Option v3.0 software using only the Waters Deployment Manager, which is packaged with the Headspace Control Option v3.0 media. Important: If HCO v2.0 is currently installed, it should be uninstalled before installing HCO v3.0. You cannot use the Deployment Manager to uninstall HCO v2.0. You must uninstall HCO v2.0 using Add/remove Programs first, then use the Deployment Manager to install HCO v3.0. To use the HCO v3.0 software on an Empower Enterprise (client/server) system, you must install it on every computer, LAC/E 32 module, client, and Citrix application server that interacts with the headspace sampler, its methods, or results. For consistency, install HCO v3.0 software on all clients, LAC/E 32 modules, and Citrix application servers. You need not install HCO v3.0 software on the database server unless the server hosts the Empower client software and interacts with the GC instrument, its methods, or results. General installation instructions using media (not for a Citrix application server): 1. Power-off the headspace sampler, and reboot the computer. 2. Log in to the computer using an account with local administrator privilege. 3. Insert the Headspace Control Option v3.0 media in the media drive. 4. Browse to the root of the media, and double-click the setup.exe file to begin the installation using Waters Deployment Manager. 5. Follow all prompts to finish the installation. 6. Reboot the computer to correctly establish communication with the instruments. 7. Power-on the headspace sampler. General installation instructions using a downloaded executable file: 1. Power-off the headspace sampler, and reboot the computer. 2. Log in to the computer using an account with local administrator privileges. 3. Browse to the HCO_v30.exe file (downloaded from Waters.com) on your local hard drive, and then double-click it. 4. Click Unzip to extract the installation files, browse to the extracted file location, and then double-click the setup.exe file to begin the installation using Waters Deployment Manager. 5. Follow all prompts to finish the installation. 6. Reboot the computer to correctly establish communication with the instruments. 7. Power-on the headspace sampler. To install the Headspace Control Option v3.0 on an Empower Citrix server: 1. Power-off the headspace sampler, and reboot the computer. 2. Log in to the computer using an account with local administrator privilege. 3. Insert the Headspace Control Option v3.0 media in the media drive. 4. Put the Citrix server in Install mode by opening a command prompt and typing Change user /install. Result: An advisory appears: User session is ready to install applications. Page 4 of 11

5. Browse to the root of the media, and double-click the setup.exe file to begin the installation using Waters Deployment Manager. 6. Follow the prompts to complete the installation. 7. Put the Citrix server in Execute mode by opening a command prompt and typing Change user /execute. Result: An advisory appears: User session is ready to execute applications. Validation Information After you install or uninstall Headspace Control Option v3.0 on a qualified system, Waters recommends determining your requalification needs in accordance with your laboratory s standard operating procedures. If this is an initial installation in a GxP-regulated environment, perform a full qualification of Empower software. Waters recommends that you run the Verify Files utility or the ConnectionsAQT for Empower IQ and review the resulting file for an entry that states No installation changes were detected. Note: The date displayed when Verify Files (IQ) runs always reflects the previous installation. See the Empower.log file for the complete history. Verifying the Installation To verify the installation, select Start > All Programs > Empower > Empower Installation Log. Search for lines similar to this: Installed Agilent 7697A Headspace Sampler 3.0.035 on 1-22-2015 16:01:29. ******************************************************************************* DM [04:01:32:806 PM]: Product: Agilent 7697A Headspace Sampler -- Installation completed successfully. ******************************************************************************* Installed Agilent G1888 Headspace Sampler 3.0.016 on 1-22-2015 16:01:51. ******************************************************************************* DM [04:01:54:865 PM]: Product: Agilent G1888 Headspace Sampler -- Installation completed successfully. ******************************************************************************* Installed Waters Headspace Wizard 3.0.019 on 1-22-2015 16:02:11. ******************************************************************************* DM [04:02:15:096 PM]: Product: Waters Headspace Wizard -- Installation completed successfully. The installation of any option or service pack is documented in the checksum.txt file on the Empower computer. This file indicates the installation of any option(s) or service pack(s). The file also verifies the integrity of disk files by comparing their current cyclic redundancy check (CRC) and sizes with their original values. Those values were recorded during installation of the base software and any installed option or service pack. This file is created when you run the Verify Files utility by selecting Start > Programs > Empower > Verify Files. To display the checksum.txt file, navigate to the \Empower\Script directory, and then double-click the checksum.txt file. Page 5 of 11

Uninstalling the Headspace Control Option To ensure successful file verification following the removal of the HCO v3.0 software, you must reboot the computer before you uninstall the software. To remove any version of the Headspace Control Option software from your system: 1. Reboot the computer. 2. Log in to the computer using an account with local administrator privilege. 3. Open the Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove Programs. 4. At the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, click the Change or Remove Programs icon. 5. Click the version of HCO ICS that is on your system, and then click the Change/Remove button. 6. Follow the prompts to remove the control software from your system. The registry and new CRC checksums are updated for the Empower installation. No Oracle or system files are affected. New Features and Issues fixed in this release The following table contains a list of the software problems fixed in HCO v3.0. Waters uses product change system (PCS) numbers to track the status of issues. PCS Number Description 47560 This release of the Headspace Control Option introduces support for the Agilent 7697A headspace sampler. 49309 Headspace control could not be installed using Waters Deployment Manager (DM). With HCO v3.0, the only way to install the headspace control option is to use the Deployment Manager. The DM now installs the headspace instrument drivers for the HCO v3.0 as well as the Headspace Wizard Toolkit application. Known issues in this release The following table contains a list of the known software issues and workarounds for HCO v3.0. Waters uses product change system (PCS) numbers to track the status of issues. PCS Number Description 53565 Support for the 7694 headspace sampler has been discontinued. 53572 Using the Alter running sample option to pause a running sample set method causes different behavior in Empower software than the behavior observed when Pause is selected from the headspace sampler front panel. Do not use Alter running sample in Empower to pause the sample set method. Instead, select the pause option from the instrument front panel and wait for the instrument to finish processing the samples that are in progress. Using the Alter Running Samples option with the headspace sampler can lead to a data mismatch. 53608 The recommended upgrade path is to remove HCO v2.0 before installing HCO v3.0. Removing HCO v2.0 will remove the instrument driver for the 7694 headspace sampler. If support for the 7694 must be retained, the HCO v2.0 software may be left installed, while support for the 7697A headspace sampler Page 6 of 11

PCS Number Description is installed from the HCO v3.0 distribution. However, the G1888A driver and the HCO v3.0 Headspace Wizard must not be installed. This installation path will retain support for the 7694, G1888A, and v2.0 Headspace Wizard, and add support for the 7697A headspace sampler. The 7697A headspace sampler will not be recognized by the v2.0 Headspace Wizard; therefore Sample Sets for the 7697A headspace sampler can only be created without the help of the Headspace Wizard. 53663 Using the Headspace Wizard when no method set has been created or no method set is available will cause an error. However, the error may display only in the background while the icon displays in the tool bar. 53664 When editing an instrument method report, the maximum number of characters allowed for the matrix name is 250. However, only 150 characters are displayed when the instrument method is reported. 53742 After making changes to the instrument method, the editor will not prompt you to save your method if you select another instrument in the instrument method. Before exiting and changing to another instrument, always save your method by selecting File > Save, or click the Save icon. 53744 It is critical to calculate an appropriate value for the GC Cycle Time. Since no Wait for Ready function is available with 7697A, if an appropriate GC Cycle Time value is not set, the only option is to abort the sample set if the GC is not ready. If there is a delay setting up the next run due to data processing related to the previous run, you must increase the GC cycle time to avoid instrument failure. To determine the exact cycle time to use, follow the instructions in the 7697A operation manual. See the section, To Determine the GC Cycle Time, for details. 53745 If HCO v2.0 is already installed and the installation of a driver from HCO v3.0 fails (such as the G1888A), then running Verify Files after uninstalling HCO v2.0 will also fail. Verify Files will run successfully after installing HCO v3.0 using the Deployment Manager (DM). 53752 When changing the hardware configuration of the 7890 GC, power-off the GC from the switch on the GC. Do not power-off using the front panel. Then poweron the GC in order to register the new hardware configuration in the GC. 53796 Abort options are limited when using a headspace sampler. The only options available are Abort now, Abort after Vial is completed, and Abort after Injection is completed. The options Abort Run and Continue on next line and Continue with next sample set are not supported. 53798 When a Vial spacer missing error occurs, the error message is logged twice in the Message Center. 53853 The 7697A driver uses network port 80. If there is a conflict with another application that uses port 80, the other application may need to be reconfigured or disabled. 53857 Instead of Waters Corporation, the words company name appear in local language (Japanese or Chinese) on the Add/Remove Programs list for the headspace instrument drivers and the Headspace Wizard. 53858 The titles and some content of the Headspace Wizard windows are not localized. 53860 Once you have installed HCO v3.0, do not attempt to install HCO v2.0 on the same system. 53861 Clicking on an instrument method editor that is not responding can cause the editor to exit unexpectedly, especially if it is running on slow computer Page 7 of 11

PCS Number Description hardware. Allow enough time for the editor to open fully before clicking on it. 53869 Some errors can be reported as Unknown errors, and possibly display a numerical value. There is no further information available for these errors. 53870 If you attempt to monitor 2 systems simultaneously, the instrument that was started first will appear to stop functioning. When you restart monitoring the first system, both systems will then continue to monitor successfully.
