Fresco FCS AVI allows 3rd party system controllers to interface with a Fresco System, using either or bidirectional communication. The FCS AVI controls up to 36 lighting scenes and/or levels. The FCS AVI is provided in a painted steel enclosure with a prewired power supply and detachable terminal blocks for simple field installation. Before You Start 1. Disconnect power prior to installation or servicing. 2. Mount and install FCS AVI in accordance with the National Electrical Code and any other codes which may apply. 3. Use only as intended. 4. Use only accessories recommended by Acuity Controls. 5. Use only at the voltage listed on the product and component labels. Important Installation Notes 1. Ambient Conditions: Maximum Ambient Temperature: 104 F/40 C Minimum Ambient Temperature: 32 F/0 C Relative Humidity:10-90% Non condensing Designed for permanent interior installation 2. The FCS AVI is rated for 120 or 277V, 60 Hz operation. 3. Use only copper conductors with 90 C insulation rating or higher. 4. FCS AVI should be mounted to an appropriate surface with 4 screws. Make sure the supporting surface will safely support the combined load of the equipment and all attached hardware and components. Overview Digitally control any fixture type on the Fresco network, including DMX-512. An on-board mechanical switch allows selection between or on the data output port. Baud Rate Options: 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200 and 230400 Bidirectional communication for control and status. Configure and control up to 36 Fresco lighting inputs and outputs. Electrical isolation to prevent faults from further damaging system components. 800.535.2465 acuitycontrols.com FCS AVI 120/277 WARNING TO AVOID THE RISK OF FIRE AND SHOCK, DOORS MUST REMAIN CLOSED AT ALL TIMES Fresco 201-00075-001 FCS AVI 302-00151-002 Page 2

FCS AVI Installation and Wiring 1. MOUNT FCS AVI Mount the FCS AVI to a wall using the 4 mounting holes. The mounting holes are sized for 1/4" (6 mm) screws. Use the appropriate mounting screws for the wall type being anchored to. See Figures 1 and 2 for details. 2. CONNECT POWER Connect 120 or 277 VAC to the input terminal block power. 3. CONNECT FRESCO CONTROL Connect the Fresco Control Network () to the connector on the FCS AVI. 4. CONNECT / Connect either the or port to the desired 3rd party system. (Both ports cannot be used simultaneously) 5. APPLY The device at each end of the Fresco station network () and network must be terminated for proper operation. Operation The following LED status indicators will remain lit during normal operation Primary 3.3V Isolated Power The following LED status indicators will blink when receiving/transmitting data Interface Commands Please refer to the "FCS AVI" Interface Commands (912-00005- 002) for command description and examples. Shade Integration The following shade control interfaces are supported, allowing control of compatible shades: Lutron QSE-CI-NWK-E Somfy Connect UAI MechoSystems MNI Warnings The FCS AVI can be powered by 120 or 277 VAC. DO NOT connect the incoming voltage (either 120 or 277 VAC to the incorrect transformer lead. Severe damage and/or malfunction will result The FCS AVI provides termination circuits for both the Fresco station network () and port. Switch 1 terminates the port and Switch 2 terminates the port. The devices at each end of the network must be terminated for proper operation. Switch 4 assigns the data output port's mode of operation, either or. Switch 4 must be set correctly for the desired mode of operation. NEVER connect AC line voltage to any connector on the FCS AVI circuit board. Catastrophic damage will result Fuse Replacement The FCS AVI circuit board is protected by a fuse. Replace ONLY with 250mA, 350VAC, 5.1 x 13.8mm Quick Acting fuse. Incorrect fuses will fail to protect the FCS AVI as intended. Page 3

FCS AVI Troubleshting Verify wiring to TX, RX, and connector from 3rd party system. FCS AVI TXD goes to EXTERNAL RXD FCS AVI RXD goes to EXTERNAL TXD FCS AVI goes to EXTERNAL GND As illustrated in figure below if this connector had an adapter and wiring harness connecting to the FCS AVI: Pin 2 would connect to FCS AVI TXD, Pin 3 would connect to FCS AVI RXD, and Pin 5 would connect to FCS AVI. Pin 1: Data Carrier Detect (DCD) Pin 2: Received Data (RXD) Pin 3: Transmit Data (TXD) Pin 4: Data Terminal Ready (DTR) Pin 5: Ground (GND) Gently pull on the wires going to the FCS AVI black communication connectors (RS232, RS485, ) to ensure the wires are making gd contact and are secure. Check the RS232 <-> RS485 selector on the FCS AVI PCBA. If there is a range extender, additional cabling, converter, between third-party system and FCS AVI verify its operation and settings. Can the about command be typed and a response seen? Check the version of the firmware by typing about command. Is any data received upon the startup of the FCS AVI? Verify FCS AVI has driver configured as AVI or LUTRON QSE according to application. Verify baud rate and communications settings. Power cycle the FCS AVI and observe the status LED s. STATUS will be solid green will blink periodically once a second when connected to the / Fresco network. RS232 will blink with data sent / received If configured for RS232 operation send some data on terminal application, observe if the RS232 indicator actuates. If configured for RS232 operation change the baud rate to 9600 (or some other baud rate the FCS AVI is *not* set to). Send some data on terminal application, the RS232 indicator should not actuate while data is being sent. Unplug the connector, observe the status LED will not blink. Unplug the connector, attempt to send data or command and check for response and RS232 or RS485 LED actuate. Change the FCS AVI driver to Lutron QSE, disconnect the RS232 or ensure there is no Lutron QSE controller, verify the RS232 LED will actuate roughly once every 10 seconds. If the RS232 LED is on solid (and apparently no data is being sent), ensure the / GND is connector or swapped with. Use a terminal emulation program such as Tera Term or PuTTY (suggest using Tera Term) for testing command and response or basic communications. Page 8
