DOCUMENTATION User Productivity Kit FAQ Q: What documentation is provided and how is it used? A: The UPK Developer comes with a variety of documentation to help support your organization in the development and deployment of content. The Developer documents can be found in the \Program Files\Global Knowledge\OnDemand\OdDev85\Docs folder after the developer has been installed or on the installation CD. Here is a summary. Document Name Filename Use Player Reference Guide BBPGuide.pdf This guide describes how to use the UPK Player Installation and Deployment Guide Install and Deploy.pdf This guide describes how to install the UPK Developer and deploy the published content to your web server, file server, or LMS. Developer Reference Guide Refguide.pdf This guide describes how to use the UPK Developer tool. Technical Supplement Technical Supplement.pdf This guide contains additional technical topics including backing up data and customizing the player. Upgrade Guide for the Developer Using the Player with Windows XP SP2 Upgrade_25.pdf Using the Player with Windows XP SP2.pdf This guide describes the functionality changes from the UPK 2.0.2 Developer to the 2.5 Developer. This document describes the impact that Windows XP SP 2 has on the Browser Based Player and related solutions. The Usage Tracking Documents can be found on the UPK Developer CD in the \UsageTracking\Docs\ folder. Document Name Filename Use Usage Tracking Installation and Configuration Guide UTconfig.pdf This guide describes how to install Usage Tracking. Usage Tacking Administration and Reference Guide UTadmin.pdf This guide describes how to run, edit, and create reports as well as administer usage tracking. DEPLOYMENT Q: Will UPK run in my Learning Management System (LMS)? A: The LMS Published content is AICC 3.5 and SCORM 1.2 compliant, however this is not a guarantee that the courses will run properly in your LMS. This is due to different interpretations of the standards, LMS versions, service pack upgrades, and LMS customization. Please contact your PeopleSoft representative for sample content that can be used to test compliance with your LMS. Q: Can my UPK content be tracked in my LMS if the content is on a different server (with a different domain) than my LMS? v.2.5.3 Last Updated 11/12/2004 1 PeopleSoft, Inc.

A: Yes but the content must be loaded as AICC and some files must be configured on the content server to accommodate the cross-domain scripting issues. Java is also required on the end users machines for this method. Q: Does UPK work in the PeopleSoft Learning Management (LM) application? A: Yes. UPK has been integration tested and certified in LM 8.8. Q: Does published UPK content run on UNIX? A: Yes, however there are some considerations with a UNIX based OS: UNIX based OS's are case sensitive. UPK uses mixed case in it's file structure. This does not cause a problem on a UNIX based OS because all calls to our files are in the correct case. e.g., a file named "Test" will always be called as "Test" - it will never be called as "test". However, there is a module in Apache called "mod_rewrite" that can automatically lower-case (or upper case depending on the configuration) all URLs. Unfortunately, if your server is using this module, then our calls to OnDemand files will now be called in lower-case, but since the file is mixed-case, it will generate an error (web error number 404.) Please note, this is a very popular module in Apache. Information on mod_rewrite can be found at: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_rewrite.html Q: Can I launch the UPK Browser-based Player from the Help link within a PeopleSoft Enterprise application? What about EnterpriseOne? A: Yes for PeopleSoft Enterprise. See the document Technical Supplement located in the docs folder. UPK content can be linked to help in EnterpriseOne but it is not context sensitive. Q: Can UPK be accessed behind a firewall? A: Yes. UPK is DHTML and can be accessed behind most firewalls. Q: Are there any plugins required on the users machines to view the UPK? A: No. The Browser-based Player does not require a plug-in however you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0 and you must have JavaScript enabled. See the User Productivity Kit v 2.5.3 -- Technical Requirements sheet for more details. Q: Does UPK run on other browsers besides Microsoft Internet Explorer? A: Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0 is required to view the Browser Based Player due to its expanded support for JavaScript. There are other publish formats, like the HTML Website, which can be viewed with other browsers besides Internet Explorer. See the User Productivity Kit v 2.5.3 -- Technical Requirements sheet for more details. Q: Does UPK run on the Macintosh? A: No not for the Browser Based Player. The HTML Website publish format is supported on the Mac. See the User Productivity Kit v 2.5.3 -- Technical Requirements sheet for more details. Q: Can UPK be run on a Citrix client? A: Yes in some versions. See the User Productivity Kit v 2.5.3 -- Technical Requirements sheet and the Technical Supplement for more details. Q: Does UPK content need to be installed on a different server than my PeopleSoft application server? A: No, UPK can run on the same server as the PeopleSoft application. Q: Is it possible to launch UPK content outside of the Browser-based Player or from other applications? v.2.5.3 Last Updated 11/12/2004 2 PeopleSoft, Inc.

A: Yes. Individual topics can be launched from a hyperlink (in any of the available modes). See the Technical Supplement doc. Q: How much server disk space is required to host the content? A: For the Browser-Based Player, plan on between 250 KB and 900 KB average per topic without sound. See the User Productivity Kit v 2.5.3 -- Technical Requirements sheet for more details. Q: How much bandwidth is required for UPK content? A: The Browser-based Player interface and TOC is less than 200 KB and gets cached after the first download. When a See It! or Try It! Mode is launched the first 5 pages of the topic are downloaded and cached on the browser (this is to improve navigation performance). The initial download is typically less than 300 KB. After the initial download, subsequent frames are cached one at a time as they are accessed. Q: Can the Browser-based Player be re-branded with my company logo? A: Yes. See the Technical Supplement doc. Q: Does UPK access require an internet connection? A: No. UPK published content can be copied to a local drive or delivered via CD-ROM. An internet connection is required for LMS or Usage Tracking. Q: Is UPK content SCORM 2004 compliant? A: UPK LMS published content is currently SCORM 1.2 compliant. UPK will publish SCORM 2004 compliant content in future releases as the standard becomes more widely supported. Most LMS s that support SCORM 2004 also support older standards. Q: When I click on a link to launch the Browser-based Player nothing happens. A: UPK opens in a new browser window. If you have a pop-up blocker installed, disable or uninstall it. Q: What is the underlying architecture of the Browser Based Player? A: The Browser-based Player is DHTML (Dynamic HTML which is HTML and JavaScript. The images are PNG format). DEVELOPER Q: My company purchased the PeopleSoft UPK Developer but when I open the application and go to Help>About it says OnDemand 8.0, 8.0.2, 8.5, or 8.5.3. Do I have the correct software? A: Yes. UPK is based on software technology from our OEM partner, Global Knowledge. The About screen was not branded with PeopleSoft UPK version information, however it is the PeopleSoft UPK product. OnDemand 8.0, 8.0.2, 8.5, and 8.5.3 translate into UPK 2.0, 2.0.2, 2.5, and 2.5.3. Q: What is the difference between the build number and the version number under Help>About? A: The build number is the specific build release code and the version number is the product version. When contacting customer support please reference the version number and not the build number. Q: Are there any differences between the UPK Developer and the OnDemand Developer from Global Knowledge? A: Yes, the main difference is in the object recognition. 'Object recognition' refers to the way the Developer tool recognizes and automatically records the buttons, fields, etc. that you populate while performing and recording application tasks. v.2.5.3 Last Updated 11/12/2004 3 PeopleSoft, Inc.

UPK: The UPK Developer is designed to recognize objects in PeopleSoft Enterprise and EnterpriseOne products, and some related apps. It cannot be used to record other applications. OnDemand: Global Knowledge sells two products, OnDemand Standard Edition and OnDemand PeopleSoft Edition. 1 The Standard Edition is a 'generic' version, and has no specific object recognition for PeopleSoft products. It does have object recognition for many Windows-based, and most Web-based applications, and can be used to record those applications. The PeopleSoft Edition does have object recognition for PeopleSoft but does not include support for the PeopleSoft related applications nor does it install and EnterpriseOne folder as part of the installation. Q: What is the difference between the Stand-Alone (Single-User) developer and the Multi-User developer? A: The Stand-Alone (Single-User) developer is a single client machine install that includes the content database and developer tool. When a stand-alone user views the content outline, they are viewing content on their local workstation. Multiple users using Stand-Alone installs can share content but it must be exported/imported between developers. In a Multi-User environment, the content database is installed on a file server and multiple client users access the same content outline from their workstation. Users access content from a single data repository on the server. A tool called Lock Manager is also installed on the server that prevents multiple users from editing the same topic and corrupting the database. You can initially deploy in a Stand-Alone mode and then switch to Multi-User mode or vice versa by importing and exporting content. Q: I will have more than one developer creating content, therefore I should install the Multi-User developer, correct? A: Not necessarily. You should install the Multi-User developer only if your developers want to share the same content outline and are accessing the server over a LAN (not WAN) environment. Q: Can UPK publish to PowerPoint? A: No. Q: Can UPK publish to HTML? A: Yes. Select the Deployment - HTML web site option during publishing. Q: How are roles established? A: Topics are assigned to roles using the UPK Developer. Q: What applications can UPK record against besides the PeopleSoft application? A: UPK 2.5 can record against Excel and Crystal in addition to PeopleSoft and its related applications (such as PSn/Vision, Application Designer, and Ascential). Q: Does UPK work with World XE? A: Yes, however object recognition is minimal. Q: Is there a control built into the Developer that will help you track changes made in English to ensure you do the same changes in another language? A: There is no formal tracking capability in the Developer. Q: Can a user bookmark within a mode and return to where they left off? A: Not to the exact page, however you can use a Jump In-Point to navigate the frames. Note: The Know It! Mode does not support Jump-In Points. 1 Global Knowledge stopped selling the OnDemand PeopleSoft Edition in Q4, 2004. v.2.5.3 Last Updated 11/12/2004 4 PeopleSoft, Inc.

Q: What languages does the UPK Developer support? A: The UPK Developer can be installed in English, Spanish, French, German, and Japanese. You can then select the language that you want the content (in the template text) to be generated in. This includes: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Swedish, Dutch, and Japanese. Q: Does UPK support multi-language translations? A: The Developer supports the creation of content in seven languages. If you wanted to create Spanish content, you would work in the Spanish Developer and the Spanish PeopleSoft application. It would record content in the Spanish application and apply the Spanish template text around the recording. For example -- in the bubble text, it would say the Spanish equivalent "Click the Workforce Administration Link". It is important to understand the difference between template text and object recognition text. In the previous example, the template text is "Click the <blank> <blank> link". The object recognition text in the previous example is <blank> <blank> Workforce Administration <blank>". If you were to open the Spanish content (developed in the Spanish developer) in the English developer, it would translate the TEMPLATE TEXT but not the OBJECT RECOGNITION TEXT. In this example it would say something like: "Clic el Workforce Administration la conexión." Note that the screen captures would not be automatically updated to English in this example. Q: Is UPK a translation tool? A: UPK is not a translation tool, however, it does have limited translation ability. The benefit of the UPK is that it allows you to quickly create content in a variety of languages. If you need to create content in multiple languages to support your implementation or upgrade, create the content in the base language and then import that content into the new language developer and the template text will be translated. You will have to manually translate any custom text. Q: Is it possible to restrict access to topics by role? A: No. Users can filter content by roles, but not be denied access. In Do It! mode users would be able to view the UPK Content, but would only be able to execute the procedure in the PeopleSoft application if their security settings allow. It is also possible to publish a different player for each role. Q: Is the French language support for Parisian French or Canadian French? A: Parisian French Q: What is the Spanish language? A: Castilian. Q: When I TYPE text in an Explanation frame it gets marked for SeeIt/TryIt, however when I COPY and PASTE text it gets marked for SeeIt/TryIt and DoIt? A: This is a bug, and is scheduled to be fixed in a future release. Q: Do I need to use ContentSetup.exe to install my Browser-based Player content to the web server? It looks like it is just copying the files to a folder that I specify. A: In UPK 2.5.3, it may be possible to copy the content to the web server without using ContentSetup.exe as long as you are NOT updating content. If you are updating content, you must use ContentSetup.exe. If you are in an environment that does not allow drive mappings (UNIX), you should still run ContentSetup.exe to a local drive and then FTP the content to the server. UPK 2.0.2 users should ALWAYS use ContentSetup.exe to properly register the search components. v.2.5.3 Last Updated 11/12/2004 5 PeopleSoft, Inc.

USAGE TRACKING User Productivity Kit FAQ Q: Is Usage Tracking required to deploy UPK? A: No. It is an optional program. Q: I didn t se an option to install Usage Tracking when I inserted the UPK Developer CD. How do I install Usage Tracking? A: The Usage Tracking setup is located in the Usage Tracking folder on the CD. Refer to the Usage Tracking Installation and Configuration guide (UT_config.pdf) located in the docs folder on the CD. Q: I m trying to run a report in Usage Tracking and I receive the following error: You do not have permission to access this page. Please contact your OnDemand Server Administrator to update your permissions. A: This may occur for a couple of reasons. 1) You do not have the proper permissions to run reports in Usage Tracking. Contact your UPK Administrator to have your permissions updated, or 2) you have permissions to run reports but you logged in as someone else who does not have permissions. In this case, there is no way to log out and you must delete the browser cookie that stores your login data. The cookie file will start with your login name followed by the URL (ex bsmith@pse.peoplesoft[1].txt). Login again using your login information. Q: What software is required to install Usage Tracking? A: Windows 2000 or 2003 Server, IIS 5.0 or 6.0, and Microsoft SQL Server 2000. See the User Productivity Kit v 2.5.3 -- Technical Requirements sheet for more details. Q: Does Usage Tracking replace my LMS? A: No. Usage tracking is not an LMS but rather a back end tracking mechanism for learning administrators to track which topics are being accessed, for how long, and by whom. Know It! mode scores and pass/fail status are also tracked. Usage Tracking can also be used to track areas of the PeopleSoft application that may require more help once the application has gone live. This can identify both areas of training that may need to be supplemented, business processes that may need to be simplified, or employees that are having trouble adjusting to new systems or processes. Q: When editing users in the Usage Tracking Administrator is there a wildcard character that can be used in the criteria field to display all users in the system? A: Yes use % Q: Does the UPK track the time it takes to complete a test? A: Usage tracking will track the time spent in the Know It mode (and any other mode for that matter). A compliant LMS may also be able to track the time. Q: Does Usage Tracking Support Microsoft Active Directory? A: Yes, if Windows Authentication is configured as the authentication method during the installation. Q: I m using Windows authentication. I am not able to set permissions for custom groups for which I have created only the default Administrators group? A: Place the domain name in front of the group name ie myntserver\my_group Q: What if I exit Know It mode before I complete the topic. What gets tracked? A: Usage Tracking will record that the topic was taken by marking a score of zero and setting the passing flag to No. v.2.5.3 Last Updated 11/12/2004 6 PeopleSoft, Inc.

CONTENT User Productivity Kit FAQ Q: Why is there no content in the Introduction pane of the PeopleSoft content? A: Content in the Introduction pane does not show in the LMS output and shows under the Overview section in the ILT documents. In addition, the Introduction pane cannot be populated at the Lesson and Module level. For these reasons, and the fact that each customer would likely add their own introduction content based on their implementation, this pane was left blank. Q: How much disk space does the PeopleSoft UPK content require? A: Each module varies from 30MB to 150MB for the Browser-based Player content. For more detailed information about the sizing of each module see the UPK Content Sizing Data Sheet in Field Connection. Q: Is UPK context sensitive? A: Yes in release 2.5 and later for PeopleSoft Enterprise applications only. Q: Is UPK 508 Compliant? A: Yes, in UPK 2.5 and later, the HTML Website published content is S508c compliant. Q: We purchased the UPK content without the Developer and are trying to publish only part of the content. How do we publish only selected topics? A: In order to publish only specific topics, you must have the UPK Developer, import the prepublished content, and re-publish the desired topics. Q: Can I include sound in UPK? A: Sound can be added to each page of a topic. The only supported sound format is WAV and is not compressed. Sound is not recommended for med-low bandwidth connections. ActiveX is required for sound. Q: How can we leverage existing content? A: You have several options 1) Copy/paste the content into bubbles within the UPK Developer. 2) Link to the content via infoblocks. 3) Use the content -- as appropriate -- as scripts for creating new UPK content. Q: How would multiple developers share content? A: In the single-user mode, developers can import content from other developers. In the multiuser mode, developers share the same content repository. Q: In Do It! mode, what happens if someone selects a topic in the player but does not have access to the corresponding component within the PeopleSoft application? A: They can view the topic in the Player but when they try to do the transaction in the PeopleSoft application, security would prohibit their ability to do the transaction. Q: Can you modify the template text? For example: the delivered template text for left click is click but I want all occurrences of left click to say select? A: Yes. The template text template can be modified and all template text will reflect the change. If you are considering translation, you should also modify the template text in all languages that you plan to translate otherwise select would still translate as click. Q: Is all of the content recorded in 1024x768 screen resolution? Our environment doesn t support greater than 800x600. What can we do? A: Content recorded at 1024x768 resolution will still play back in 800x600 but the user will have to scroll to see the entire screen. Content can also be re-recorded in 800x600 using the UPK Developer. v.2.5.3 Last Updated 11/12/2004 7 PeopleSoft, Inc.

Q: I have the PeopleSoft EUT product. Is there a way for me to convert my WLA content to UPK? A: UPK and the WLA are different technology, therefore, there is not an automated migration utility or conversion tool. The best practice would be to use your WLA content as your storyboard for content development in UPK. Using your WLA outline and procedures as a guide, record all the procedures in the UPK Developer. The recording tool and object recognition technology will handle the bulk of the procedure based text and simulation activities. After this is complete copy and paste the non-procedure based info from the WLA into the UPK Developer in either explanation frames or as info block links to the WLA pages (the WLA pages are HTML and can easily be linked to UPK via infoblocks or copy pasted). UPGRADING FROM UPK 2.0.2 TO 2.5.3 Q: I purchased the 2.0.2 content. How do I upgrade the content to make it context sensitive? A: If you have not customized the content you can request an upgrade from PeopleSoft Customer Care. If you have customized the content you will need to upgrade to the 2.5.3 version of the UPK Developer (contact PeopleSoft Customer Care). During the install process you will be prompted to convert any 2.0.2 content. Once the content is converted, re-publish the content and it will now be context sensitive. Refer to the Installation and Deployment Guide for more information. Q: How do I know what version of the content I have? A: If you purchased content from PeopleSoft, check the readme.ini in the root installation folder where to content was installed. At the top of the file it will say which version of the UPK Developer was used to develop the content. Q: I have deployed Usage Tracking 2.0.2. Do I need to upgrade to 2.5? A: The Usage Tracking installer for 2.5.3 will do an upgrade from 2.0.2 without having to uninstall or reconfigure SQL server. All data will be preserved as well as all configuration settings. Usage Tracking 2.5.3 will be backwards compatible with 2.0.2 content, however, Usage Tracking 2.0.2 will not support 2.5.3 content (including context sensitivity). If you want to deploy 2.5.3 content, or any content built with the 2.5 Developer in your Usage Tracking environment then you will have to upgrade t 2.5.3 Q: Are there any changes to the system requirements for UPK 2.5.3? A: See the User Productivity Kit v 2.5.3 -- Technical Requirements sheet for more details. Q: We are running a multi-user environment. Are there any best practices for upgrading? A: You should first install UPK 2.5.3 into a new location (and convert the 2.0.2 content), uninstall 2.0.2 and the lock manager, then install the new lock manager. You will have to re-run the wssetup.exe on the local machines since the old shortcut will then be invalid. UPK EXPRESS Q: How do I get started after I have purchased UPK? A: PeopleSoft Education offers the UPK Express, a three-day workshop plus five-day training program that will help you harness the power of the User Productivity Kit. You can develop strategic direction for your end-user program rollout, establish scope, roles, and responsibilities for end-user content creation, learn essential developer skills for content creation, develop basic outline and prototype content, and more. For more information see the UPK Express Data Sheet available on the PeopleSoft website at http://www.peoplesoft.com/corp/en/training/end_user/productivity_kit.jsp v.2.5.3 Last Updated 11/12/2004 8 PeopleSoft, Inc.
