Motorola Moto G5 Plus Battery Replacement Replace a battery that is no longer holding a full charge. Written By: Gabriel Malestein ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 1 of 10

INTRODUCTION As batteries age, they can lose their ability to hold a full charge. Replacing your battery with a new one will give your phone its full life back. TOOLS: Paper Clip (1) Spudger (1) Phillips #000 Screwdriver (1) ifixit Opening Tools (1) 5.4cm suction cup (1) Heat Gun (1) PARTS: Motorola Moto G5 Plus Replacement Screen (1) Motorola Moto G5 Plus replacement battery (1) ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 2 of 10

Step 1 Disassembly Power off the phone. Step 2 Remove the SIM card using a thin paperclip by inserting one end of the paper clip into the small hole on the top left corner. This will eject the SIM card from the phone. Be sure to store the SIM card in a safe location. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 3 of 10

Step 3 The screen is likely to crack as you pry it up. You should not complete this step unless you have a replacement screen available. Stick the small suction cup onto the screen. Use this to remove the screen from the phone frame in later steps. Using a heat gun on a low setting, slowly raise the temperature of the screen by repeatedly running the heat gun along the edges of the screen. This will soften the glue that holds the screen to the phone frame. Use the suction cup to gently pull up on the screen while using the plastic opening tool to gently pry the edges of the screen up. Once the screen has been completely separated from the phone frame, flip it to one side to expose the inside of the phone. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 4 of 10

Step 4 Using a size 000 Philips head screwdriver, unscrew the nineteen 4 mm screws. Yellow tinted kapton tape will need to be removed to get to some of the screws. Step 5 Remove the interior metal covering using the plastic opening tool. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 5 of 10

Step 6 Pull off all of the yellow tinted kapton tape. Step 7 Unplug the battery by lifting up on the black plug with the plastic opening tool. This will shut off any power to the phone and prevent further damage. Be careful not to damage the motherboard underneath the plugs. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 6 of 10

Step 8 Remove the 3 flat-topped connectors that connect the screen to the phone frame by prying them up with the plastic opening tool. Fully detach the screen and set it to the side. Step 9 Motherboard Disassembly Using the Philips 000 Screwdriver, unscrew the 3.1 mm screw. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 7 of 10

Step 10 Using the plastic opening tool, unplug the oscillating vibration motor. Step 11 Unplug the flat-top connector with the plastic opening tool. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 8 of 10

Step 12 Using the plastic opening tool, pry open the two tabs that hold the motherboard to the phone frame. Step 13 Remove the motherboard from the phone by prying it up with the plastic opening tool. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 9 of 10

Step 14 Battery Do not use the heat gun to try and remove the battery. Heating a lithium-ion battery can cause it to catch fire. Prying up on the battery to remove is likely to damage it. Do not attempt to plug the battery back in or use it once you have removed it from the phone. Pull up on the black tag that is on the opposite side of the battery from the battery plug. If you are having difficulty pulling the battery up using only the black tab, you can also use the plastic opening tool to pry up around the edges of the battery. To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order. This document was last generated on 2018-01-31 06:00:44 PM. ifixit CC BY-NC-SA www.ifixit.com Page 10 of 10
