Battery power vary depends on the usage of the device (Mails, Phone, Camera, Other apps, etc..) NOTE: If you are not closing browsers, not sign out from apps then will take battery power 1. ios Battery Life Hints and Tips When a device registers with MobileIron it can have a significant number of changes applied to it. These changes are delivered based on the configurations and settings setup by the system administrator. Once registered, your device can be doing a large number of different things and the impact on the device can vary from person to person and location. With any device, when it does more, it uses more battery. I. View Battery Usage Information ios 8 is designed to be the most battery-efficient ios ever. And it gives you more precise ways to manage your device s battery life, because you can see the proportion of your battery used by each app (unless the device is charging). To view your usage, go to Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage. Page 3

II. Duplicate ActiveSync Configurations When duplicate accounts exist, each account will be synced independently, thereby multiplying the device s network load. The duplicate accounts should be removed to improve battery performance. To remove a manually entered AS account, open Settings> tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars > tap on the manually entered account and tap Delete Account. III. ios Software Updates Still running old versions of ios may be experiencing various battery draining bugs. Update to the latest software. Always make sure your device is using the latest version of ios. If you are using ios 5 or later, see if you need an update. Go to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, you can plug your device into a power source and update wirelessly or plug it into your computer and update with the latest version of itunes. Page 4

IV. Optimize your Settings There are two simple ways you can preserve battery life no matter how you use your device: adjust your screen brightness and use Wi-Fi. A. Dim the screen or turn on Auto-Brightness to extend battery life To dim, swipe up from the bottom of any screen to open Control Center and drag the Brightness slider to the left. Auto-Brightness adjusts your screen to lighting conditions automatically. To activate it, go to Settings > Display & Brightness and set Auto- Brightness to On. B. When you use your device to access data, a Wi-Fi connection uses less power than a cellular network so keep Wi-Fi on at all times. There are two ways to turn on Wi-Fi: Swipe up to open Control Center, tap the Wi-Fi icon, and log in to a Wi- Fi network. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi to access a Wi-Fi network. V. Fetch Data Manually The more frequently email or other data is fetched, the quicker your battery may drain. To fetch new data manually, from the Home screen choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Manually. To increase the fetch interval, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and tap Hourly. If you have a 'push' email account you can turn it off when you don't need it. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data and set Push to Off. VI. Prevent Background App refresh Background App refresh allows apps to refresh their content in the background while you perform different tasks. It can be a drain on battery life. You can disable the feature entirely or simply disable the apps that you do not want to continually refresh. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. VII. Automatically updates In earlier ios versions you had to manually update App updates but with ios 7 automatically update when new versions are released. It can be a drain on battery life so to manually update apps go to Settings > itunes & App Store > Updates > and move the slider to off. Page 5

VIII. Location and Background Location This indicates that the app is using location services. You can optimize your battery life by turning off Location Services for the app. Turn off in Settings > Privacy > Location Services. In Location Services, you can see each app listed with its permission setting. Apps that recently used location services have an indicator next to the on/off switch. IX. Home & Lock Screen This indicates that the Home screen or Lock screen was displayed on your device. For example, the display was awakened by pressing the Home button or by a notification. If an app frequently wakes your display with notifications, you can turn off push notifications for the app in Settings > Notifications. Tap App and set Allow Notifications to Off. Page 6

X. No Cell Coverage and Low Signal This indicates that either you are in a poor cell coverage area and your ios device is searching for a better signal or that you ve used your device in lowsignal conditions, which has affected your battery life. You can optimize your battery life by turning on Airplane mode. Swipe up to open Control Center and tap the Airplane mode icon. Note that you cannot make or receive calls while in Airplane mode. XI. Siri Usage If turning off Siri's "Raise to Speak" feature can result in substantial battery savings for some users (who seem to be inadvertently triggering it) XII. Disable notifications Settings > Notification Center, scroll down to Include and Do Not Include, tap a given category (Phone, Messages, Reminders) or app (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), and choose as few notifications as possible. Then you will see more standby time. XIII. Turn off vibrating Turning off the vibrating alerts on your iphone, ipad can help prolong your battery life. You can find the option to turn off vibrating alerts in the 'Sounds menu'. Page 7

XIV. Auto Lock the device Always lock your device when you are not using it. To lock, press the Sleep/Wake button. You can also set the Auto-Lock interval turn off more quickly after a period of inactivity. To set Auto-Lock, go to Settings > General > Auto-Lock and set the interval to a short time, such as 1 minute. XV. Keep the device away from warm areas If device is exposing to heat will degrade its battery life the most. Keep it out of the sun or warm areas. XVI. Restoring the Device (as new) Some cases that devices that have been restored from backup can exhibit poorer battery life than devices that have been restored as new. Restoring a device as new will not sync over any save game states, call history, and various other settings. It will also require the device to do a complete resync with the Exchange Server (also meaning large accounts may initially impact battery life, possibly creating a false impression of poor battery performance). Page 8

2. Android Battery Life Hints and Tips When a device registers with MobileIron it can have a significant number of changes applied to it. These changes are delivered based on the configurations and settings setup by the system administrator. Once registered, your device can be doing a large number of different things and the impact on the device can vary from person to person and location. With any device, when it does more, it uses more battery. I. See what's using the most battery power Check the app which is consuming phone's battery. If you see an application you barely use or a feature you never use, then you can uninstall the app or turn off the feature. II. Duplicate ActiveSync Configuration When duplicate accounts exist, each account will be synced independently, thereby multiplying the device s network load. The duplicate accounts should be removed to improve battery performance. Page 9

III. Check Divide PIM settings Secure Apps Manager>Mail>Settings; Remove mail receiving notification Remove mail sending notification Remove vibrating when mail is receiving & sending Remove sound when mail is receiving & sending IV. Reduce email, Twitter, and Facebook polling Set your various messaging apps to "manual" for the polling or refresh frequency then you'll instantly extend your device's battery life by a significant amount. V. Reduce your dependency on cloud access You can set it to sync only while your device is using Wi-Fi. But another good option is to store all files locally. Then you can save the battery power because not required to pull data from the cloud. VI. Turn off unnecessary hardware radios Today most devices are using LTE, NFC, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, but do you really need all are activated 24 hours per day? Android keeps location-based apps resident in the background, and the constant drain on your battery will become noticeable, fast. If your phone has a power control widget, you can use it to quickly turn on/off GPS (the largest power drain), NFC, Wi- Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE. Page 10

VII. Use the extra power saving mode if you have it The aforementioned Galaxy S5 and HTC One (M8) both have Ultra Power Saving and Extreme Power Saving modes, respectively, that limits the phone to texting, phone calls, Web browsing, and Facebook. This can squeeze extra hours or even a day of standby time out of just a few remaining percentage points of battery. VIII. Trim apps running in the background From Settings > Apps, swipe to the left; you'll see a list of apps that are currently running. Tap on each one to see what they're for; you can stop any apps that you don't need running in the background all of the time. Page 11

IX. Dump unnecessary home screen widgets and live wallpaper Just because they're sitting on the home screen, seemingly inactive, doesn't mean they're not consuming power. This goes for widgets that poll status updates in the background, as well as ones that just sit there but look pretty and animated not to mention animated live wallpaper. (But don't dump everything, as part of what makes Android great are the home screen customizations; just remove the ones you don't use.) X. Uninstall unused apps Even if you aren't using an app, it could still be running in the background, doing whatever it's still supposed to do. If you've tried an app but don't plan to use it again, go ahead and uninstall it. To uninstall an app, go to Settings > Apps, and tap on the app you want to uninstall. In the App info page that comes up, tap on Uninstall in the upper right. XI. Turn down the brightness and turn off Automatic Brightness It's probably obvious at this point, but you'll be surprised by how much this one alone helps to improve battery life. XII. Screen Timeout (Settings > Device> Display» Screen timeout) If you set short time period, then will take less power for display. The setting vary from device to device. XIII. Turn off the Vibrate function (Settings > Device> Sound» Vibrate) If you are disabling the vibrate, helps to improve battery life. XIV. Put to Standby mode & Device in Airplane mode Put your phone on standby mode when you are not using it. Simply press the power button. Put the device in "Airplane Mode" while on an airline flight. This will allow you to use the phone while in flight. If you don't plan to use the phone, turning it off completely by selecting "Power off" is the ultimate power saving tip! Page 12

XV. Turn off Voice Services If your device may include voice services, that drain your battery by always listening for a command. The setting vary from device to device. XVI. Stop syncing everything Your Android device helpfully tries to sync all your data with your Google account. To make sure your phone isn't constantly backing up things you don't want or need to back up, go to Settings and then click your account listed under accounts. From there, click on your email address to see everything Google is syncing. Uncheck anything you'd rather not sync. XVII. Update your apps Applications often get updated to use less battery power, so you should make sure your apps are up to date. Even if you configured the phone for automatic updates, some apps still require that you manually install updates. Check for app updates in Google Play by hitting the menu key and going to My Apps. XVIII. Keep the device away from warm areas If device is exposing to heat will degrade its battery life the most. Keep it out of the sun or warm areas. XIX. Keep an eye on signal strength If you're in an area with poor cellular coverage, the phone will work harder to latch onto a strong-enough signal. This has an adverse effect on battery life. There's not much you can do about this one, but keep in mind that this could be the culprit behind a seemingly weak battery; it's worth popping the phone into Airplane mode if you don't need data or voice calls. 3. Apps to boost Android & ios Battery life Android Battery Monitor is an app on Google Play that has very positive reviews when attempting to monitor battery consumption. Battery Life Pro - All-IN-1 is an app on itunes that has very positive reviews when attempting to monitor battery consumption. Page 13
