mymcc is a central source of information for the MCC college community. It is delivered to you in a default layout, but you do have several options to make mymcc truly your own. There are some cases in which key Tabs and Channels of information on those tabs are locked or not customizable. Customizing Content mymcc provides flexibility for you to customize the content that is displayed in mymcc. To begin, click the Content Layout link in the upper left of your screen. In the Manage Content/Layout area you can make modifications to Tabs, Channels and Columns or revert to the default layout. The directions at the top will help you make modifications. The steps are also outlined within this document. If a button is grayed out, that particular modification is not available to you. To save your changes and return to the main screen click the Back to link on the top left. 1
Working with Tabs mymcc is delivered to you in a default layout. Although there are some cases in which key Tabs and Channels of information are locked or not customizable, you do have several options to make mymcc truly your own. You can customize each Tab within mymcc by adding, deleting or moving channels. You will have the most customization options by working with the MyStuff Tab or by adding additional Tabs of your own. The My Stuff Tab On this Tab you will find three Channels included by default: First, the Channel MyStuff Instructions on the right side of the Tab will contain information to walk you through the steps of adding a Channel to the MyStuff Tab. These are the same instructions provided later this document. The second Channel is the Bookmarks Channel. This Channel can be edited to include your favorite Internet URLs. First, click the Add A Bookmark Button on the lower left of the channel Add a bookmark Then provide a Bookmark Title. This is the text you want to appear as a link to the destination URL. Next, enter a complete URL. Be sure to include the http://! Provide a brief description of the URL and Click the Add button Your new link will appear in the Bookmarks Channel. Click the link to check that it is working properly. The Website you added will appear in a new window. You can also delete bookmarks using the Delete Bookmarks Icon. 2
Delete a Bookmark Place a check in the box next to the bookmark you want to delete, then click the Delete button. If you want to organize your bookmarks in folders you can create or delete folders within the Channel. To create a folder, Click the Add Folder icon. Type a name for your folder and Click the Add Button. If you want to use folders in this Channel, be sure to add your folders BEFORE adding your bookmarks within the folders. To Delete a Folder, Click the Delete icon. Select the folder Name you want to Delete, then Click the Delete button. The third Channel available by default on the MyStuff Tab is the Chronicle for Higher Education. This is only one of many News related Channels that you can add to mymcc. Sports enthusiasts can add ESPN! If you like to keep up with local news you can add the Democrat & Chroncile top stories. Even add the New York Times or CNN Channels. Adding Tabs Click the Add Tab button on the far right of the Manage Content Layout screen. Follow the steps at the top of the screen: 3
A Traditional Tab is one that contains columns and channels set within those columns. A Framed Tab is one that allows you to fill the entire tab with the content of a specified URL. The Position for the tab allows you to set the order of the tab in the layout in relation to other tabs. Note that all existing tabs are locked. No new tabs can be placed before them. A new Tab would be added to the far right. Click the Submit button to add your new tab to the layout. 4
Modifying Tabs From the Manage Content/Layout screen, select the Tab to Edit. At the top of the screen, you will see the following list of options for modification of the Tab. The default Active Tab is the Tab you will see when you first log into MyMCC. For Tabs you created on your own, you will also have the option to Rename the Tab and modify the Tab Type. 5
Moving Tabs You can change the Tabs location in the layout by clicking the directional arrows on the Tab. You will only be able to change the location of Tabs you have created on your own. Working with Columns on a Tab Click Directional Arrows to relocate tab To begin, select the Tab containing the columns you want to work with or add. Adding Columns You can only modify columns on Tabs you have created. Click the Add Column button in the position you want the new column to appear. There is an Add Column button on both the left and right hand side of the screen. At the top of the screen you can then set column widths as a percentage of the total screen. Be sure to add the % sign after the value you type. Widths, as a percentage should total 100% for all columns on the tab. The default setting for each column added is 100%. Choose the Submit button to save your settings. 6
Delete Columns Select the column you want to delete by clicking the Select Column button on the Tab. At the top of the screen click the Delete this column option. You will be prompted to confirm the Delete. Click OK. Move Columns Click the directional arrows on either side of the Select Button to move the column in that direction. Click arrow to move this column to the right 7 Click arrow to move this column to the left
Working with Channels on a Tab To Begin, select the Tab containing the Channel you would like to work with or add. Adding (Subscribing To) Channels mymcc is delivered to you with a standard set of channels organized on Tabs. There are more channels of information available to you. Channels may appear on more than one Tab! By adding channels you are making more information available to you through your single sign-on to mymcc. Click the New Channel Button in the column where you want to add the channel. The following will appear at the top of the screen. Available Channels are organized by category. Click the down arrow to view a list of categories. Click here to view list of categories Select a category name to view available channels belonging to that category, or choose Select All from the drop down list to view all available channels. Click the Go Button. 8
Select a channel from the resulting list, and then click the Add Channel button on far right of screen to add the channel to the layout. Click Cancel and return link to return to the Manage Content/Layout screen without adding a Channel. Click the Back to Tab link in the upper left hand corner to see the new Channel on the Tab. Moving Channels To change a channel s location on the tab, click the directional arrows. If some arrows are grayed out, you may not move the channel in that direction. Directional Arrows Other channels on the Tab will automatically reposition themselves based upon the move you made. 9
Deleting Channels You can remove channels from the Tab directly or from the Content Layout Area of mymcc. Click the Remove Button from the top right corner of the Channel. Click here to remove this channel The other ways to remove a channel are from the Manage Content/Layout Area. Click Content Layout link from mymcc to enter the Manage Content/Layout area. Click the Delete Channel button on the upper right of the Channel. Or Click the Select Channel button and then click the Delete this Channel button from the top of the screen. 10
Returning to Default View of a Tab. Select the mystuff Tab, the Banner Tab or a Tab you have created.. Click the Content Layout Link on the upper left of your screen you will see a link Revert to Default Layout.. Click Revert to Default Layout. Note: you will get one warning stating that you are about to replace the current layout with the default layout. These changes cannot be undone and in most cases will remove all Channels on the Tab.. Click Yes if you want to proceed. Clicking Cancel will not make any changes to the Tab. Editing User Preferences Click the My Account link in the upper left of your screen to adjust user preferences. Make your changes and click the Save Changes button in the lower right of screen. Click the Back to Tab link in the top left of the screen to return to mymcc. Clicking the Cancel Button will also return you to mymcc without changing any preferences. Important: Changing your password here will affect your login to other systems! To avoid confusion do not change your password here! 11
