InfoWorks 13.0 Release Notes Page 1

Introduction This document contains information on installing InfoWorks and associated software, and information relating to migration of databases from previous versions of the software. Throughout this document the term 'InfoWorks' refers to InfoWorks CS, SD, WS and RS. Users of InfoWorks ICM should consult the appropriate documents. Operating System Requirements InfoWorks 13.0 is only supported on, and can only be installed on the following Microsoft operating systems: Windows XP - 32 and 64 bit editions - requires Service Pack 1 or greater Windows Server 2003-32 and 64 bit editions Windows Vista - 32 and 64 bit editions Windows Server 2008-32 and 64 bit editions Windows 7-32 and 64 bit editions InfoWorks 13.0 will not run on and cannot be installed on Windows 2000. InfoWorks is not supported on the Intel Itanium architecture. It may be necessary to update the Microsoft Jet database engine before installing InfoWorks - see below. When interfacing to 3rd party GIS products, and when using Oracle and SQL Server master databases, you need to ensure that the software is supported by its vendor on the platform you are using. Please note that as of this release SQL Server 2000 is not longer supported as a master database for InfoWorks CS and InfoWorks WS. The InfoWorks Installer The installers that we provide are Microsoft installer MSI files. The names of the files include a number that is used to distinguish the exact software build on the CD. There are five versions of the InfoWorks installer: One which installs InfoWorks along with the MapX GIS component from Pitney Bowes Software - this is named IW_X_24009.msi One which installs InfoWorks along with the MapObjects GIS component from Esri - this is named IW_O_24009.msi One which installs InfoWorks along with the MapXtreme GIS component from Pitney Bowes Software - this is named IW_XT_24009.msi One which installs InfoWorks without any map component - this is named IW_24009.msi The version of the installer that you you receive will depend on the map control (if any) you have arranged to have supplied with the software. Page 2

There are also separate installers for the InfoWorks RS Free Edition and the InfoWorks Demo which have separate release notes which can be obtained from Innovyze if required. In addition to the main InfoWorks installer, which installs the InfoWorks software, necessary third party components and documentation, you may also find some or all of the following useful: The installers for the example data - one each for InfoWorks CS, SD, WS and RS. These are named InfoWorks_CST_24009.msi, InfoWorks_SDT_24009.msi, InfoWorks_WST_24009.msi and InfoWorks_RST_24009.msi respectively What s new in InfoWorks CS 13.0' What s new in InfoWorks SD 13.0' What s new in InfoWorks WS 13.0' What s new in InfoWorks RS 13.0' Detailed instructions for using InfoWorks on Oracle Detailed instructions for using InfoWorks on SQL Server The scripts necessary to create InfoWorks databases on Oracle and SQL Server, and to update Oracle and SQL Server databases from InfoWorks 12.5. The installer for the stand-alone (Rainbow) dongle drivers. You will not normally need to run this manually. The installers for software relating to the network (NetHASP and Hasp HL Net) dongles. You will only need to install this if you have chosen to have InfoWorks supplied with a network dongle. You will NOT need to install this on every client PC, this is server software that needs installing on one PC which will have the network dongle plugged into it. The dongle configuration guide. They are included on the CD along with the installer, and may also be downloaded if you need them. Installing InfoWorks You need to have administrative privileges in order to install InfoWorks. InfoWorks 13.0 can be installed on a PC in parallel with one or more previous versions of InfoWorks, although you cannot have two copies of InfoWorks 13.0 on the same PC (i.e. you cannot have the beta and the initial release, or the initial 13.0 release and a subsequent patch release on the same PC). If you have installed the InfoWorks 13.0 beta release it is necessary to uninstall that before you install this software. When you run the installer you will be prompted to accept the licence agreement, and to choose the location in which the software is installed. Before installing the software please read the following notes. InfoWorks 2D You should be aware that 2D functionality in InfoWorks CS, InfoWorks SD and InfoWorks RS is only available if you have purchased InfoWorks 2D for the appropriate version of InfoWorks. Please contact your Innovyze sales representative for more information. Page 3

USB Dongles If you have any USB dongles attached to your machine, these need to be removed before installing or removing the dongle drivers. Otherwise, the USB portion of the Dongle Driver installation might fail. If the InfoWorks installer needs to run the dongle driver installation program, before doing so it will display a warning message reminding you to remove any USB dongles. If the InfoWorks installer does reboot your system you must log in with the same username and password as used when first starting the installer. Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine InfoWorks requires the Microsoft Jet 4.0 database engine to be up to date. You need to have installed Jet 4.0 Database Engine service pack 8, or to have installed an operating system service pack containing this or a later version. If the installer determines you do not have a sufficiently recent version of the database engine, a message will be displayed indicating that you have an old version of Jet installed and you will be prevented from installing InfoWorks. You will then need to download and install Service Pack 8 for it from the Microsoft web site. If you get this message when installing InfoWorks or would like more information about this requirement please refer to Appendix C. Windows DFS (Distributed File System) Replication InfoWorks Jet master databases should not be stored in directories replicated via Windows DFS Replication. Use of ArcGIS with Esri supplied single use hardware keys Users of ArcGIS who have Esri supplied single use hardware keys who want to use InfoWorks when ArcGIS is installed but the ESRI supplied hardware key is unplugged should consult appendix D for instructions. Please note that this section only applies to users with single user hardware keys used on the client PC, not to users of network floating licences. Software check for current support contracts Users are only be able to run versions of the software if they have a valid support contract at the time of the software s release. This does not affect the ability to run older versions of the software. Installers for Example Data There are 4 example data installers, one each for InfoWorks CS, SD, WS and RS. You need only install these if you wish to use the example data. The installers require administrative privileges and offer you the opportunity to choose where to install the files. If you uninstall the example data you will, of course, lose any work that you have done in the example database.these installers can be run at any time, they do not need to be installed before you start using InfoWorks 13.0. When you install any of them, the example database will automatically be set as the current master database for that version of InfoWorks. The default locations for this data is C:\InfoWorks CS Tutorial130\CS Examples for InfoWorks CS etc.. You can, of course, override this location. In particular you need to do so if you do not have read and write access to your C drive. Page 4

After Installation If you are using InfoWorks with a network dongle and have not set up a network dongle server somewhere on your network you should refer to appendix A. If you are using InfoWorks with a network dongle and have set up a network dongle server somewhere on your network, you should run the 'Licence Key Setup' program, available in the Windows start menu. This will allow you to choose whether InfoWorks is using a local dongle or a network dongle. The dongle will NOT be found if this has not been set up correctly, but you only need to run this program if you wish to use a network dongle, or if you wish to change back from a network dongle to a local dongle, as InfoWorks will initially be set up to look for a local dongle. If you are using network dongles on a PC on which you have previously run InfoWorks 12.5 and have not yet run a version of InfoWorks 13.0 you will need to run the 'Licence Key Setup' program before using InfoWorks 13.0, the settings for this will not be migrated from your InfoWorks 12.5 installation.if you have or have previously had InfoWorks 12.5 installed on the same PC you have installed InfoWorks 13.0 on and have not yet run InfoWorks 13.0, the first time you run InfoWorks 13.0 you will be asked if you want to migrate your settings from InfoWorks 12.5. The settings that would be migrated are Local Root location, Master Database, Units, GeoPlan and GeoPlan Labels. These are stored on a 'by user, by PC' basis, therefore answering the questions affects only the current user on the current PC. The options are Now, Later or Never. When you select Now the settings will be immediately migrated. If you select Later, you will be asked the same question again next time you start InfoWorks or the InfoWorks administration program. If you select Never this dialog will not reappear again. You may need to update your master databases. For more information on updating databases see Appendix B. Remember that you should not under normal circumstances make a copy of an InfoWorks database and then continue to work with the original and the copy. This restriction applies whether or not you are using both copies in the same or different versions of the software. If you need to do this for some reason, please contact the Innovyze technical services team who will explain the special precautions you need to take. Server Databases In addition to the Jet database engine, InfoWorks also supports Oracle (versions 9i, 10g and 11g), and SQL Server (2005 and 2008). Instructions on installing and updating databases for these databases can be found in a separate document, which can be found on the CD or downloaded from the Innovyze web-site as appropriate. Page 5

Appendix A - Network dongle server installation In order to use a network dongle with InfoWorks you need to attach it to a PC on the network, typically a server, and install the appropriate software on that PC. The network dongle can be attached to any PC on the network. This PC does not need to have InfoWorks itself installed and can continue to be used for other purposes (the network dongle and its Licence Manager consume very little in the way of system resources and can be run on a fairly low spec PC). However, the designated PC should be one that is re-booted only very infrequently as re-booting will disrupt InfoWorks users. For this reason the PC in question should probably be one that has been designated as a server. For more information on network dongles please see the 'Dongle Configuration Guide' which can be found on the installation CD or downloaded from the Innovyze website. Page 6

Appendix B - Updating Databases Overview As extra functionality is added to InfoWorks requiring extra data, the InfoWorks databases require updating to add extra tables and fields to hold the data used by the new functionality. If you do not have reliable, verified backups of your master database(s) you should back them up before updating. There are two types of update: Major updates. Once a major update is done, the database cannot be used in the previous version of the software. Providing you are not using a server database (Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server), major updates may be done using the InfoWorks administrator program. It is necessary to check in networks in the version from which they are being updated before performing the update. The process of checking in networks will need to be done by all users who have networks checked out, i.e. it is likely to need doing on multiple PCs if you have multiple users. If you ARE using a server database, then a major update will require the combination of one or more scripts and running an option in the InfoWorks administrator program. Minor updates. Providing you are not using a server database (Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server), minor updates can be done by any user opening the database. They can be done without checking networks in, the update will be done seamlessly for checked out networks as and when they are opened by the person who checked them out. The master database CAN be opened in the previous version of InfoWorks as well as the new version. Caution should be exercised, however, when using different versions of InfoWorks with the same database. In particular, if a network is checked out in the older version, then the values for any new data items (e.g. new object types, new fields in old object types) will NOT be there. Therefore if a model uses new features, then is checked out in the old version, then checked in again, potentially data used by the new features in the software will not be preserved. If you are using a server database, the minor update will require a script available from Innovyze upon request, and the database will not be able to be opened in the previous version of InfoWorks. For InfoWorks 13.0 the update for InfoWorks WS is major, the updates for InfoWorks CS, SD and RS are minor. If you have any questions or concerns about updating databases you should contact the Innovyze Technical Services. The Technical Services Department can be contacted using the email addresses shown in Appendix E or by calling your local Innovyze representative Performing Major Updates To Jet Master Databases To perform a major update to a Jet InfoWorks master database: 1. Open the InfoWorks Database Administrator. 2. Select Database Update Master Database Page 7

3. Select the type of database and then browse and find the relevant.iwm file. 4. Select OK. 5. A message appears describing how a copy of the original data will be created, hit OK. 6. You are then prompted for the location of a temporary file. This file stores the data whilst the conversion is done. The temporary file is deleted automatically once the database update has been successfully completed. Two copies of the InfoWorks master database (.iwm) are saved to your hard drive or server: one that is v13.0 compatible and the other for use in the earlier version. For example if the version 12.5 master database that is to be updated is called ABC.iwm, you will find a database called ABC.iwm and ABC_OLD.iwm. ABC.iwm is compatible with the latest version (in this case version 13.0), and ABC_OLD.iwm is compatible with the older version. Note that the two databases will have the same database identifier (the unique string of letters and number which is used, amongst other things, to identify the local root). Therefore it is not advisable to use both the newer and older versions of the database because checked out networks and simulation results for these two databases could overwrite each other. We recommend that once confirmation is received that the update process has worked successfully you create different local roots for the version 13.0 database and the older database, or you archive or delete the older version. Please do not hesitate to contact Innovyze Technical Services Department if you require further information or assistance. Updating Oracle and SQL Server Master Databases Please see the separate documents covering InfoWorks with Oracle and SQL Server databases for details. Page 8

Appendix C - Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine Updates InfoWorks requires you to have version 4.0.8015.0 of msjet40.dll or later. You will normally have a suitable version if you have done one of the following: installed Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine Service Pack 8 if you are running Windows XP - installed Service Pack 2 if you are running Windows 2003 Server - installed Service Pack 1 if you are running Windows Vista if you are running Windows 7 If you are running Windows Server 2008 You can see this Microsoft web page for more information: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239114 If you need to install the service pack, the version you need to download will depend on the operating system you are running and the language of your operating system. Page 9

Appendix D - ArcGIS Single Use Hardware Keys If you have a copy of ArcGIS secured with a single user hardware key installed on your PC, but do not have the key plugged in, you will see one of the following messages generated by the ArcGIS software: If you want to run InfoWorks without ArcGIS installed you should select the Ignore installed ArcGIS Client Software check-box on the GeoPlan tag of the Options dialog, accessed from the options item on the tools menu. Page 10
