Hint: The used images are schematic. This guide is made on Windows 7 but Windows XP (requires.net Framework 3 and 4), Windows Vista and Windows 8 are also supported. Description of the device: Congratulations, now you are the owner of the Reader Plus Extra from chipdeal.com. This guide shows how to use your device correctly and provides an overview of its functions. Functionality Following chip types are supported: FDX-A FDX-B HDX EM4102 All scanned IDs are saved in the internal memory. The data can be transmitted tot he PC via mini-usb cable or wireless via bluetooth. There is the possibility to read the memory or to send the ID in real time. (see page 12) You can choose the application you want to use to send the data to. The display shows: Scan Select the menu Language by pressing the up -button and confirm your selection with the validate -button: Language Navigate to your preferred language (buttons 7 or 9) and press the validate -button again. Following languages are available: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish 4
Scanning process Turn on the device by pressing the On/Off-button. The display shows: Scan Confirm with button 8. The reading mode has been activated: Reading This mode stays activated for approximately 20 sec. The operator must hold the reader close to the place where the chip is assumed to be, scanning over the area slowly. If a transponder has been detected, the reader emits a beep and displays the ID in the following form: FDXB 001 276 274877906744 The chip type is shown in the right corner; the memory slot number is displayed in the left corner. The ID has been stored in the memory and can be read anytime. (see page 12) If the transponder has not been detected after 20 sec, the reader emits three "beeps" and shows the following message: No transponder found! After approximately 15 sec the reader returns to the main menu. If you want to switch off the reader, press the On/Off-button until the reader emits two "beeps" and shows "Goodbye". How to use the device in connection with a PC: Installing the software: Drivers It is necessary to configure your PC once and set up the communication software. Therefore you have to install the drivers on your PC. You can find them at www.chipdeal.com/plusextra.html or on the optionally ordered CD. 5
Execute the file Treiber_PlusExtra_winXP_Vista_7_8.exe by a double click. Confirm the possible security questions of your system. Now you are get into the installation routine: Click Next to get to the next dialogue: 6
Accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next to get to the next dialogue: Click Next to get to the next dialogue: 7
Click Install to start the installation: Be sure the checkbox Launch the CP210x VCP Driver Installer is checked and click Finish to get to the next installation dialogue: 8
On the next appearing window click on install: Confirm the success message with a click on OK : Connect your device with your PC using the mini-usb cable. To get a stable function it is advisable to use always the same USB port on your PC. The driver set up was successful. 9
Installing the software: Terminal The terminal is a program which transfers the data from the reader to your PC. The software package at www.chipdeal.com/plusextra.html or on the optionally ordered CD contains the file. Please connect your device with your PC via mini-usb cable. The terminal has no installation routine. Just copy the file ChipDeal_Terminal.exe in a folder on your PC and start it via double click. After confirmation of possible security questions of your system the following window appears: 10
The ChipDeal Terminal: Configuration If the user's interface is French or Spanish, switch it to English by clicking the following menus: Please check the menu Display all the data and UNCHECK Auto connection. Set the keyboard layout to QWERTY : The ChipDeal Terminal: Linking the device to the software Link the software to your device by clicking the following menu: If the connection was established successfully the following message appears in the footer of the terminal: (The number after COM can be different.) 11
If the connection could not be established the following error message appears: Please follow the steps described in "Error treatment". The ChipDeal Terminal: Transmission of the scanned ID Please establish the connection between the device and the PC. It is described in "The ChipDeal Terminal: Linking the device to the software" Now scan the transponder. It is described in Scanning process. The ID is directly transmitted to the terminal: The ChipDeal Terminal: Transmission of the data from internal memory Please establish the connection between the device and the PC. It is described in "The ChipDeal Terminal: Linking the device to the software" Turn on the device bya pressing button 1. The following is displayed: Scan Press button "up" (7) twice. The following is displayed: Memory Confirm the selection by pressing the button 8. The following is displayed: Send Confirm the selection by pressing the button 8 again. The following is displayed: Sending ****** 12
Now the data is sent from the memory to the terminal: If you want to delete the internal memory press the button 8 one more time. If you want to keep them wait until the countdown is finished: Press <OK> to erase 8s The ChipDeal Terminal: Save the transmitted data to a text file or print If you want to save your IDs in a text file select "File" and then "Save". In the next dialogue choose a file name and the save location and click "Save". You can also print the data directly. Therefore click "File" and "Print". If you want to clear the terminal window click File and Erase. 13
The ChipDeal Terminal: Send the data directly to an application (e.g. Excel) First start your text application you want to use (e.g. Excel). On the terminal click "File" and "Link to an application": The following message box apppears: Confirm with OK. Now you have 5 sec to activate your text application (e.g. Excel). After the 5 sec this success message appears: Now you can scan a chip ar read the memory. (see: Transmission of the scanned ID and Transmission of the data from internal memory ) You can see your data in your application now (e.g. Excel): 14
The ChipDeal Terminal: Error treatment If problems emerge during the attempt to establish a connection the following error message appears: In this case please check this points: 1. Is the correct driver installed on this PC? 2. Is the device correctly connected to the PC. 3. If so, please try another USB port. (Important hint: You should always run the device an the USB port it has been installed to!) 4. In case the previous points fail you have to check the software settings on the PC. Therefore it is necessary to get the number of the COM port the reader has been installed to. Please open the Device- Manager of your system as shown below: 15

Open the settings menu by clicking File and Properties of the connection : Select the COM port found in the Device-Manager and the rest properties as shown below: 17
Using Bluetooth To connect the reader wirelessly via Bluetooth you have to set up the device on your Bluetooth connection. The configuration depends on the used adapter and varies from system to system. The necessary data is : device name: linvor password: 1234 To enable the Bluetooth function on the device navigate with button 7 to the entry Bluetooth and press button 8 twice: Bluetooth Enable The LED (6) blinks in blue. Hint: The usage of the Bluetooth leads to increased energy consumption.. Recharge the battery The reader is powered by a Lithium/ion battery. This battery is designed to allow several thousand reading operations. It can be recharged by connecting the reader to a USB port. A fixed red LED (6) indicates that recharging is in progress and green (6) when it is fully loaded. The service life of the battery depends not only on its use but also on the environment in which the reader is stored. An indicator on the right of the display (6) indicates the battery charge level. When the charge is too low the reader displays the following message: Low battery Only around ten more reading operations will be possible before the reader switches itself off permanently. Please connect your device to a USB-Port to recharge the battery. To replace the battery, open the battery compartment on the underside of the reader. It is essential to use original batteries only. Please consult your distributor. Safety Please store the reader on a dry place. The storage temperature should be between -10 C to 60 C and the operating temperature should be between -5 C to 40 C. Please keep the device in distance from children and animals. 18
