1 Upgrade process This upgrade guide shall only be used if you a running system with SYSCON, ETHCON or GYDA and want to upgrade to Multicon. 1.1 Before you start (pre-requisites) Check the compact flash card on all your system controllers (SYSCON/ETHCON/GYDA). Upgrading to Multicon requires compact flash cards with 256MB or more. If you have a compact flash card reader, copy the contents from the old flash card to the new flash card before you insert the new one. Otherwise, insert the new flash card and open the System Configurator version 3.x.x and set the correct IP address before you proceed. Verify that you have new Multicon product keys for all your controllers to be upgraded. The keys are received when you purchase the Multicon upgrade. Update you system drawing with all devices and connections, and keep it close during the upgrade process. Make sure you have 2 hours of maintenance time before you start Firmware files are located in different places, depending of your operating system. Windows Xp C:\Program Files\Nevion\Configurator\Firmware Windows Vista C:\Program Files\Nevion\Configurator\Firmware Windows 7 C:\Users\Public\Documents\Nevion\Configurator\Firmware Windows 8 C:\Users\Public\Documents\Nevion\Configurator\Firmware 1.2 Backup of existing system Make sure you are using System Configurator version 3.x.x. The latest version can be downloaded from www.nevion.com/support Go to Help->Create Support Backup and save the support package to a backup location. The support package is needed in the next step of the upgrade. 1.3 Install Nevion Configurator Install Nevion Configurator version 4.x.x. The latest version can be downloaded from www.nevion.com/support Note: Both version 3.x.x and 4.x.x can be installed on the computer at the same time, but cannot run at the same time. Tip: Use default installation settings when installing the Nevion Configurator. Note: When installing on Windows Vista, set the compatibility mode to "Run this program as an administrator". nevion.com 4
1.4 Execute upgrade From the Start menu open the Programs -> Nevion -> Nevion Upgrader: Note: On startup the Upgrader application will show an error on network interface. Open Tools->Options to verify that the correct network interface is set. Note: Windows Security Alert may appear when starting the Upgrader application. Select "Unblock" to allow communication to system devices. 1. Prerequisites a) The prerequisites were covered earlier in this guide. Verify and confirm by checking the checkbox. b) Click next to continue. 2. Configuration a) In the "Support package" field browse to the support package zip file created earlier in this guide. b) Click the Convert button to perform the upgrade. This will upgrade all of your earlier configurations (level mnemonics, virtual routers, salvos, button configurations ++) c) Click next to continue. 3. Control panel a) Click the Refresh button to find all control panels in the network. b) Check all the panels which need to be upgraded. c) Click the Upgrade button. d) In the "Select firmware file(s)" dialog, browse to the firmware file (cp_firmware-3.x.x.bin) for control panels. This file is included in the installation of the Nevion Configurator. e) Click OK to start upgrading the panels. f) When all panels are finished upgrading, click reboot to complete the upgrade. g) Click next to continue. nevion.com 5
4. Controllers a) Click the Refresh button to find all controllers in the network b) Check all the controllers that shall be upgraded, the upgrade will be done in two steps. c) Click the Upgrade button d) In the "Select firmware file(s)" dialog, on the "Unsupported devices" tab, browse to the firmware files and select: i) GYDA-SC: gyda_sc_mk2_multicon_3.x.x.bin ii) SYSCON: syscon_multicon_mk2_3.x.x.bin iii) ETHCON: ethcon_multicon_mk2_3.x.x.bin e) Click OK to start the upgrade process. f) When the upgrade is finished, click the Reboot button to complete the first upgrade step. g) When all rebooted controllers appear in the Multicon section of the list, check all controllers and click the Upgrade button (again). h) In the "Select firmware file(s)" dialog, on the "Supported devices" tab browse to the Multicon firmware file: multicon_mk2_3.x.x.bin i) Click OK to start the upgrade process. j) When the upgrade is finished, click the Reboot button to complete the second upgrade step. k) Click next to continue. 5. Product keys a) Select a Multicon b) Add keys from a file or clipboard. Keys can also be added manually. c) Press the Upload keys button d) Repeat steps a) -> c) for all Multicons in the system e) Click next to continue. 6. Done Click the Close button to exit the Upgrader program. nevion.com 6
1.5 Setting up Multicon system 1. From the Start menu open the Programs->Nevion->Configurator 2. In the "Open/Create system" dialog, on the "Open system" tab, select the "System1" and click OK. 3. All your existing panels will be shown in the system. 4. All available devices are shown in the list on the left side. Based on your system drawing, drag and drop devices into the system area on the right. a) When added to a system, Multicons are automatically connected to other Multicons within the same system. b) When added to a system, control panels (Modular IP or Sublime) are automatically connected to Multicons within the same system. c) When adding serial interfaces (NCB loops etc.) to a system you must specify which port(s) they are connected to. d) Please refer to the System Configurator user manual for more info. 5. When adding the first device to a system you will be asked for username and password. Default username is "admin" and default password is "password". 6. Make sure that the system is the way you want with all devices and connections. Click the yellow upload button to upload the configuration. 7. Click the refresh button to receive the current system configuration. 8. Click on the "Levels" button on the toolbar. Activate your levels by checking the checkboxes in the list. All levels present in the old configuration must be activated before proceeding. 9. Click the yellow upload button to active the levels. 10. Open the Tools->Advanced->Import converted configuration. In the "Configuration Converter" browse to the file that was created by the Upgrader program. 11. In the object selection list, select the objects to be imported. Click Import to import the selected objects into the system. 12. Click the yellow upload button to send imported configuration changes to the system. nevion.com 7
13. The system is now upgraded. 1.6 Common tasks after upgrade Click the save button to save a backup of the current configuration. 1.7 Firmware version info A list of firmware versions that is required to use when system controllers are Multicons.
