Introduction In 2006, Amazon launched Amazon Web Services (AWS) to offer IT infrastructure services in the form of web services to businesses looking to instantly spin up hundreds or thousands of servers in minutes and deliver results faster. Now, web services are commonly known as cloud computing and one of their key benefits is the ability to replace up-front capital infrastructure expenses while being able to scale your business. With the cloud, businesses no longer need to plan for and procure servers and other IT infrastructure weeks or months in advance. Today, Amazon Web Services provides a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers hundreds of thousands of businesses in 190 countries around the world. With data center locations in the U.S., Europe, Brazil, Singapore, Japan, and Australia. Enterprises moving to the cloud or expanding operations require more flexible and powerful email solutions that go beyond the standard Hosted Exchange packages. Few cloud service providers are offering flexible deployment options for Exchange, including managed public cloud, private cloud or hybrid cloud, which allow enterprises to pick whichever option best suits their IT needs. With a more flexible Hosted Exchange solution, you can better meet the needs of your end-users, drive greater productivity, and take advantage of advanced security options that deliver the level of security typically found in an on-premises solution. How can you achieve this level of flexibility in Hosted Exchange while keeping all the benefits of the cloud? Private Cloud Exchange allows for a much more configurable solution in terms of customization, ease of integration with third-party applications, and higher levels of privacy for customer data because it resides on a dedicated server. Private Cloud Exchange offers a cloud on your terms and not a vendor s terms. With a dedicated, cloud, you enhance your security and privacy options of your Hosted Exchange solution because you have more control over data, applications and services. Indeed, according to The Radicati Group dedicated deployments are expected to continue to show growth over the next four years, primarily due to midsize and large organizations moving to the cloud and preferring a dedicated deployment 1. What is Private Cloud? According to Gartner Research 2, a Private Cloud (private or single-tenant cloud) is a form of cloud computing that is used by only one organization and helps to ensure that an organization is completely isolated from others. With a Private Cloud, multiple customer accounts do not reside concurrently on the same infrastructure. A Private Cloud environment is built exclusively for a single organization and implemented for a defined set of users. Many CIOs and CTOs of large enterprises are attracted to the single-tenant environment. They may believe that a dedicated deployment model offers new opportunities for customization and integration that are not possible with a public or shared cloud. They may also believe that security and privacy can be enhanced in a Private Cloud because they ll have more control over data, applications and services. When looking to deploy a Private Cloud, enterprises need to fully understand its pros and cons before making the leap and should evaluate the decision with a specialized cloud vendor to see if a Private Cloud deployment is right for them. 1 Cloud Business Email Market 2015-2019, Radicati Group (2015) 2 Gartner Research, Gartner Highlights: Five Things That the Private Cloud Is Not, September 13, 2012 2

Managed Shared vs. Private Cloud solutions Intermedia gives customers and partners the freedom to focus on business, not IT, and we do it by offering Hosted Exchange and a suite of essential cloud IT apps with a single point of control. Intermedia offers two cloud models: Managed Shared cloud and Managed Private Cloud. In Intermedia s Managed Shared (public cloud) model, we provide access to the infrastructure as well as services for monitoring and managing the operating system, applications and middleware. In this model, the cloud infrastructure is hosted in Intermedia s datacenters and the networking, storage and computer resources can potentially be shared among multiple subscribers as a multi-tenant environment. In Intermedia s Private Cloud, also known as single-tenant or private cloud, the infrastructure is not shared. Access to the Private Cloud is limited to a specific organization and implemented for a defined set of internal users. This deployment option allows integration between Exchange and third-party applications, as well as provides more customization options for security and disaster recovery. Additionally, customers who deploy Intermedia s Private Cloud Exchange service receive a dedicated Technical Account Manager and centralized management though our proprietary control panel, HostPilot. Intermedia s Private Cloud Exchange Intermedia, the world s largest independent provider of Exchange as a service, has partnered with AWS to provide Private Cloud Exchange on AWS for companies that require the security, compliance, control and flexibility of an on-premises installation with the cost effectiveness, fast deployment and scalability of the cloud. With Private Cloud Exchange on AWS you get an Enterprise-grade email in a single-tenant deployment, dedicated to your enterprise that is highly available, secure, compliant, scalable and customizable. It is designed to be compliant with HIPAA, SOC, PCI and other industry requirements and offers the flexibility, integration and customizations typically reserved for on premises builds. But with a flexible pricing model, where you pay only for what you need, and leave the hardware, software and service management to Intermedia. Built on a secure cloud infrastructure and managed by the company that 70,000 businesses trust every day, Intermedia s Private Cloud Exchange on AWS offers a full-featured Exchange with email, calendar, and contacts across virtually all user devices. Additionally, Private Cloud Exchange can be Integrated with your business applications and designed to work with your on-premises proprietary and industry-specific software. It is designed to meet your specific needs and to provide additional security customization and integration options over shared, multi-tenant solutions. And you can also have centralized management with Intermedia s HostPilot control panel. Intermedia also provides 24x7 technical support and customized implementation by our team of cloud experts, who onboard 15,000 users each month. 3

Exchange powered by AWS a cloud infrastructure platform. Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud that powers more than 1 million users in 190 countries around the world. Exchange in a single-tenant environment on AWS offers enterprises the security and scalability of the cloud without the operational responsibility, and with the flexibility benefits of a Private Cloud. Built on a secure cloud infrastructure, the AWS platform was designed to be compliant with industry regulations such as HIPAA, SOC, PCI, etc. Customers are provided with considerable information regarding the policies, processes, and controls in operation. Additional benefits of AWS include: Comprehensive security capabilities with a large breadth of security add-ons to increase privacy and control network access. Governance-focused features with applicable compliance standards. AWS engages with independent third-party auditors to maintain security and data protection in the cloud. The relevant attestations, reports and certifications include: SOC 1/ ISAE 3402, SOC 2, SOC 3, PCI DSS Level 1, ISO 27001, ISO 9001, IRAP, FIPS 140-2, MPAA, HIPAA, FedRAMP (SM), DoD CSM Levels 1-2, 3-5, DIACAP and FISMA, MTCS Tier 3 Certification, ITAR, CSA. Global Infrastructure. AWS offers a choice of 11 geographically-isolated regions located all over the world. Engineered for the most demanding requirements. No license lock-in. Use or move existing licenses as you choose. Advanced data replication in different geographies and meet corporate recovery time objectives (RTOs). Powerful infrastructure analytics. Private Cloud Exchange on AWS offers an integrated solution by pairing Intermedia s business email expertise with the leading global infrastructure in a premium cloud environment. It is a truly unique and unified offering that gives enterprises the control and customization edge they need with an impeccable reliability, security and support. Get the cloud on your terms with Dedicated Exchange on AWS When it comes to deploying Microsoft Exchange, businesses are turning to the cloud in increasing numbers. That s because the cloud enables them to extend fully featured Exchange functionality without investing capital into extensive on-premises hardware and software deployments. However, some enterprises are reluctant to move to the cloud. Here are three reasons large orporations have been hesitant about making the move: Integration Readiness: Legacy applications were not architected with the cloud in mind and don t always integrate well with Hosted Exchange. Lack of Customization: The cloud requires that all tenants (companies) share the same resources and capabilities, with little space to address specific IT needs with your business email in the cloud. Organization Capability: IT infrastructure is not cloud-ready or familiar with cloud environments which can require a large cultural shift, including hiring new staff, investing in training and more. But, a growing number of CIOs and CTOs in enterprise organizations, are discovering the benefits of moving to a dedicated environment and opting for Intermedia s Private Cloud Exchange. This dedicated deployment model offers new capabilities for your business email that were not previously possible in a public or shared cloud, such as: 4

More Integration: Intermedia s Private Cloud Exchange lets you integrate your business email with internal systems and legacy applications, giving you more control over data, applications and services. Customization Capabilities: Private Cloud Exchange is often the only choice for customization, giving you the flexibility to address specific IT needs. Enhanced Security and Privacy: In a Private Cloud, customer data resides on a dedicated server. The provider can customize specific security parameters and has more room for additional privacy measures. Flexible Costs: A Private Cloud can be hosted by the provider or on-premises using the hardware of the subscriber which eliminates the need for migration. Better Control: With Private Cloud Exchange, you can customize your data replication environment and enable easier disaster recovery Intermedia s Private Cloud Exchange on AWS offer a premium cloud where we work with your team to select the best design, architecture, security controls and service offering for your enterprise. We offer a broad selection of services and applications and a leading team of engineers and cloud experts to address your specific security and privacy needs. Steps to implement Private Cloud Exchange on AWS Intermedia recognizes that each client has its own unique requirements in terms of security, compliance, cloud availability, scalability and customization. As we have seen, Private Cloud Exchange enables enterprises to have a more flexible, secure, and customizable deployment so that they can address their specific IT needs. A large number of enterprises use AWS as a cloud infrastructure platform and prefer to use it for other applications that they need. This is why we offer Private Cloud and our flagship product Hosted Exchange on AWS with a single-tenant deployment which is flexible enough to meet an organization s unique challenges. As you consider moving to Private Cloud Exchange on AWS, be aware that Private Clouds offer customization and integration capabilities that can enhance data security and privacy. With Intermedia s cloud on your terms approach, our clients are not constrained by a single set of vendor s terms that apply to all clients in a one size fits all or all policy. Instead, we build Private Cloud solutions that are tailor-made and designed around your business to meet your growing and changing needs. This allows you to focus on your business and will differentiate you from the competition. What are the steps to follow to customize your Private Cloud Exchange on AWS? Analysis of your enterprise IT needs. Intermedia s cloud experts evaluate your requirements around privacy, security, compliance, integration with existing business processes, data replication, backup and your preference for a Private Cloud. Finding the right IT offering. Once we have finished the analysis of your specific IT requirements, our team aligns your needs with the right IT strategy so that we can customize our offering (solutions, data replication model, cloud deployment and architecture) to address your requirements now and in the future. Approval of customizations and integrations. Internally we evaluate your specific requirements for the integration of Exchange with your internal applications. This ensures that the Private Cloud design and architecture are going to be successful after the implementation. 5
