Cisco Aironet Hard Ceiling Mounting Adapter (AIR-ANTMNTGKIT) Introduction The can be used to mount the Cisco Aironet antennas to hard ceilings. The following antennas, as well as others, may be used with this kit: AIR-ANT2430V-R AIR-ANT2451NV-R AIR-ANT2524V4C-R AIR-ANT5140V-R AIR-ANT5145V-R The following information is contained in this document: Installation Guidelines, page 2 Installing the Adapter Bracket, page 3 Installing the Antenna, page 4 Americas Headquarters: Cisco Systems, Inc., 170 West Tasman Drive, San Jose, CA 95134-1706 USA

Installation Guidelines The mounting kit is shown in Figure 1: Figure 1 Hard Ceiling Mounting Adapter 4 4 POSITION B 331299 POSITION A 1 2 POSITION B POSITION A 2 3 1 1 Score lines 3 Cable access opening and antenna hub mount 2 Mounting fastener access hole 4 Mounting keyhole slots Installation Guidelines Keep these guidelines in mind when installing the mounting adapter: The adapter is designed for indoor use. Insure that your installation is in compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC) and local regulations. Mounting hardware is not included with the mounting adapter; you must provide the appropriate fasteners. Make sure the the fasteners you select are appropriate based on the ceiling material to which you are attaching the mounting adapter. Use the correct bit size to drill holes in which to mount the mounting adapter. 2

Installing the Adapter Bracket Installing the Adapter Bracket Tools and Equipment Required You will need the following tools and equipment in order to mount the adapter bracket on a hard ceiling: A drill and appropriate drill bit A Phillips or standard screwdriver (depending on the fasteners you intend to use) Appropriate fastener hardware A pencil or pen A ladder high enough to reach the mounting location Follow these steps to install the adapter bracket on a hard ceiling: Step 1 Determine the location at which you intend to install the adapter bracket. Note Make sure that the location you selected has adequate space for the antenna and cable routing. Step 2 Step 3 Use a pencil or pen to mark the positions of the mounting bracket mounting slots. a. The distance between the holes is 3 inches (7.62 centimeters). b. You can also use the adapter bracket as a template. Use a drill with the appropriate size drill bit to drill two holes at the positions you marked. Step 4 Use a screwdriver to start the fasteners into the holes. Do not tighten; leave about 1/8 inch (.317 centimeters). Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 (Optional) If you need to remove a portion of the adapter bracket to resize it for the antenna you are installing, do it before proceeding to Step 6. See the Installing the Antenna section on page 4 for the procedure. Align the large end of the adapter bracket mounting keyholes with the fasteners. Push the adapter bracket into place over the mounting screws, then slide the bracket so that the mounting fasteners are inside the small end of the keyholes. Use a screwdriver to tighten the mounting fasteners. Install the antenna. 3

POSITIO Installing the Antenna Installing the Antenna Antennas with Mounting Clips If your antenna is equipped with mounting clips, follow these steps to install it on the adapter bracket: Step 1 Determine whether you need to remove the ends of the adapter bracket. Note Score lines are provided on the adapter bracket. The score lines are used to help you remove the unwanted portion of the bracket and make a clean break by bending it. Instructions about where to position your hands on the adapter bracket before beginning to bend it are printed on the bracket. Step 2 Once you have determined the portion of the bracket to remove, grasp the bracket at the proper places on either side of the score line and gently bend the bracket until it breaks off. Step 3 Install the adapter bracket on the hard ceiling. See the Installing the Adapter Bracket section on page 3 for the procedure. Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Center the clips on the clips on the antenna with adapter bracket. Carefully push the antenna onto the adapter bracket until it will go no further. Route and connect the antenna cables to the wireless device. Figure 2 shows a typical two-element antenna installation. Figure 2 Two-element Antenna Installation SITION A 331296 4

Installing the Antenna Figure 3 shows a typical 3-element antenna installation. Figure 3 Three-element Antenna Installation POSITIO POSITIO 331297 SITION A SITION B Antennas with a Nut Fastener Follow these steps if your antenna uses a nut to mount it to the adapter bracket: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Mount the adapter bracket on the ceiling. Follow the procedure in the Installing the Adapter Bracket section on page 3. (Optional) If you need to remove a portion of the adapter bracket to resize it for the antenna you are installing, do it before proceeding to Step 5. See the Installing the Antenna section on page 4 for the procedure. Remove the nut from the threaded fitting on the antenna. Route the antenna cables one at a time through the hole in the nut and into the cable access opening on the adapter bracket. Start the nut onto the threaded mounting pedestal on the antenna and tighten it hand tight. Figure 4 shows a typical installation that uses a nut fastener. 5
