Android Client Quick Reference Guide Installing the Enhanced Push To Talk Application Once you have subscribed to the Push To Talk service: a. You will receive a text message with a link to an AT&T site that will facilitate your Enhanced Push To Talk download. Select the Download Now button. b. You have the option to download from the browser or the Google Play store. Select Play Store. c. Select the Install button. d. Then select Accept and Download e. You will see the application downloading wait for it to complete. f. Once the download is complete, select Open Alternatively, you can log into Google Play with your Google account, search for AT&T Enhanced Push To Talk, and download the application. If you are using a Samsung Rugby Pro, please see instructions to assign the side key to the Enhanced Push-to-Talk application. The instructions are at the end of this document (Section 19) 1. Placing the Push-to-Talk Application on the Home screen (First-Time Users Only) a. From the application menu, press and hold the PTT icon and then drag it to the left. b. A square box will appear that represents the home screen. c. Drop the Enhanced Push To Talk icon (as shown in the third screenshot below), and it will appear on the home screen. a.i. a ii. b. c. 1
2. Launching the Push To Talk Application Prior to using Push To Talk, you must: a) accept the license agreement; b) activate the service. You will then have the option (c) to use the in-application tutorial to familiarize yourself with Enhanced Push To Talk. From the handset s Home screen, select the Push To Talk icon and launch the application. You will see the following PTT menu icons: Top navigation bar: Bottom action bar (on home screen) 3. Creating Push to Talk (PTT) Contacts The PTT contacts directory is separate from the phone s native contacts directory. There are two ways to add PTT contacts: Manual Entry contacts can be imported from the phone s native contact list or manually entered into the Enhanced PTT application. Some phones may not have this ability if the corporate administrator has restricted manual contact entry. Administrator-Managed Contacts A corporate administrator can add PTT contacts directly into all of a corporation s PTT phones. Contacts added by a corporate administrator cannot be deleted or changed. The following instructions illustrate how to add contacts manually. a. From the Contacts Screen i. Press the menu button at the bottom of the phone and choose Add Contact from the menu. ii. Select Native Phonebook or Manual Input. iii. To import from the Native Phonebook, simply select a single contact and then select Save. iv. To enter a contact manually, type the contact s name and phone number, and then select Save. You can also assign your 2
contact an avatar, a unique color, and set them as a favorite. Once you save a contact s information, it will appear in the PTT contact list. b. From the Home Screen: i. From the bottom of the menu screen, select the + icon and then select New PTT Contact. From this step, you will be prompted to follow the same instructions as if you were entering a contact from the Contacts screen (Steps a.ii-iv). 4. Creating PTT Groups Groups can be created manually or pushed to the phone by the corporate administrator. Groups added by a corporate administrator cannot be deleted or changed. The following steps illustrate how to create a group manually. a. Go to the Groups screen and press the Menu key on the handset. Then select New Group. b. The New Group screen will appear to let you input group information. Enter the group name, scroll down to select members to be added to the group, and press Add. You can also select an optional picture or color for the group. c. When done, tap the Save button to create the group. 5. Making PTT Calls to Individuals & Groups a. Making a PTT Call to an Individual i. Go to the Contacts screen and touch the contact you want to call. ii. An on-screen PTT call button will appear. iii. Press and hold the on-screen PTT call button to start the call. iv. Start speaking after you hear the chirp. When you finish speaking, release the on-screen PTT call button. v. If the button turns red, or if you hear an error tone when holding the PTT call button, it means someone else has the floor. Wait for the floor control to be released (you will hear a release tone when the floor is open). vi. Tap the End Call button to disconnect from the call or the call will end after a short time. 3
b. Making a PTT Call to a Group i. Go to the Groups screen, touch the group you want to call just as you would a PTT call to an individual. ii. An on-screen PTT call button will appear. iii. Press and hold the on-screen PTT call button just as you would for a single-contact PTT call. Start speaking after you hear the chirp. All group members will receive the call. To see all the members of the group, press the group name. 6. Receiving Incoming PTT Calls a. When you receive a PTT call, you will hear a chirp followed by the initiator s voice. b. To respond, press and hold the on-screen PTT call button while speaking. When you finish speaking, release the PTT call button. c. If you hear an error tone while holding the on-screen PTT call button, it means someone else has the floor. Wait for the floor control to be released (you will hear release tone when the floor is open). d. Press the Menu button and select the speaker on/off menu to turn speaker on or off. e. Tap the End Call button to end the call. Please note if you set your phone to silent mode, you will not hear any incoming PTT calls. However increasing the phone s audio volume will allow you to hear the call once it is in progress or speak to the caller. If the speaker is off, you can hear the PTT call audio through the earpiece. 7. Making PTT Calls from the History Section of the Home Screen a. Go to the Home Screen to see a list of the most recent PTT calls. You can select a contact by pressing it. b. A call button will appear which lets you call that party back. 4
8. Making Quick Group PTT Calls a. Go to the Contacts screen and mark the contacts you would like include in your quick group (ad hoc group) PTT call. b. Press Call and a PTT call button will appear on the screen. c. Hold the on-screen PTT call button to start the call. Speak after you hear the chirp. When you finish speaking, release the on-screen PTT call button. Quick Group PTT calls work the same way as pre-defined group calls. All parties within a quick group will receive the call and be in a PTT session together. 9. Receiving Incoming PTT Calls while on a Regular Phone Call or PTT Call If a PTT call comes in while you are on a regular phone call or another PTT call, you will receive a missed call alert. You can PTT back from that alert. 10. Receiving Incoming Regular Phone Calls while on a PTT Call If you receive an incoming regular phone call while on a PTT call, you will be able to answer that call and put the PTT call on hold. 11. Setting Self Availability Presence a. Go to the Home screen and tap on the self presence tile. b. A pop-up menu will appear. Choose the availability state you want to set. c. Self Availability icon and text will be updated on the Home screen s Self Availability tile and the icon on the screen status bar. d. If your availability status is Do Not Disturb (DND), you cannot receive a PTT call, nor can you send an Instant Personal Alert. 12. Sending/Receiving Alerts a. Sending an Instant Personal Alert (IPA), which is a call-me alert: Go to the Contacts screen, tap the check box of the contact you want to send an alert to, and then press Alert at the bottom of the screen. A confirmation will appear on the screen. Please note that you can send an alert only if your presence state is Available. The recipient s presence can be Available or DND. b. Receiving an Alert: You will be notified with sender details (Name, Day, & Time). You can 5
simply touch the Call button on the pop-up to get to the PTT call Ready screen. When you are in Do Not Disturb mode, you will be able to receive IPA s. 13. Setting Favorites The client allows a user to designate certain contacts and groups as favorites, which are listed under the favorites tab. a. To set a contact or group as a favorite : from the Home screen, go to the bottom action bar and select Add (the plus sign) and then select Add to Favorites b. Choose which contacts and groups you would like to show up in your favorites. Scroll to the favorites tab on the top menu bar. You can PTT, send an Instant Personal Alert, or call contacts directly from the Favorites menu. 14. Renaming a PTT Contact This feature applies to manually entered contacts only. a. In the Contacts tab, touch and hold the contact you want to rename for a few seconds and a pop-up menu will be displayed. From here, choose Edit Contact. b. The Edit Contact Details screen will be displayed. From here you can edit your contact. After changes are made, touch the Save button at the bottom. Note: You cannot edit an existing contact s number. You can only edit the name, avatar and picture. To change an existing contact s phone number, delete it first and then create a new one. 15. Deleting PTT Contacts The following steps apply to manually entered contacts only. Contacts can be deleted one at a time. a. In the Contacts tab, touch and hold the contact you want to delete for a few seconds, and a pop-up menu will be displayed. From here, choose Delete. b. You will be asked to confirm your deletion before your contact can be deleted. To cancel the confirmation, touch the cross icon in the upper corner of the confirmation pop-up. 6
16. Editing/Deleting PTT Groups The following steps apply to manually entered groups only. a. Go to the Groups screen and select the group you want to delete. Press the group once to see the members. Press and hold the group, and a pop-up menu will be displayed. From here, choose Edit Group. You will be able to delete, rename, add members, assign an avatar and add color to your group description. b. An alternate method to delete the group is to select the group, press the menu button, and then select Delete. 17. Settings You can customize the application through the settings tab. Below are the most commonly used settings options. a. The settings tab can be found under the more option from the menu button. b. Vibrate Alert and Audible Alert Instant Personal Alert notifications can be adjusted to vibrate or play a tone when received. - Alert Repeat User can choose how often the alert is played (Once, Repeat a limited number of times, or Continuous) - Instant Personal Alerts and Missed Call Alerts can be disabled. c. Avatars and Contact and Group Colors can be toggled on or off. 18. Supervisory Override The Supervisory Override feature allows a designated supervisor to take the floor (and start speaking) any time during a group call, even when someone else is speaking. A supervisor can be assigned only by an administrator. A special supervisor symbol is displayed next to the name of a group with a supervisor and next to the supervisor s name as well. If you are designated as a supervisor, you can simply use the PTT call button to take the floor any time and start speaking. Likewise, if you are not a supervisor, your control of the floor can be overridden any time by a supervisor. 7
19. Assigning the Side Key to the PTT Application If you are using a Samsung Rugby Pro device, you have the ability to assign your side key (button above the volume controls key) to the PTT application and use it as the primary PTT key. a. Press the side key, and you will be asked if you want to assign a customizable key b. Select Assign, and a list of all the applications on the phone will appear. c. Scroll to the AT&T PTT icon and select it. d. Your side key will now link directly to the AT&T PTT application. You can verify this under the settings tab - under the custimizable key option you will see AT&T EPTT assigned to the side key. Once you have assigned the side key to the PTT application in your Samsung Rugby Pro device, you can press the side button to Push To Talk, instead of using the soft PTT call button on the screen. You can also launch the application by pressing and holding the side key for about 1.5 seconds. Some examples of where you can use the side PTT key are shown below: 8
