Transcription:

Required Materials USB memory device ( USB thumb drive, USB drive ). You will obtain best results using a USB drive that is 2GB, 4GB or 8GB in size, and is USB 2.0 compliant. Larger devices or USB 1.0 devices (which are typically less than 2GB in size) will cause the process to take much longer. Also avoid USB drives with built-in lights, as these may draw more power than the Observer wall control can supply. Mini-B USB Plug to USB-A Receptacle adapter. This is available from the Literature Ordering system under part number 40106750000. The Software Download package is available at this link: http://www.tools.icpusa.com/observer/observer_control_v0600-0319_eula.html This software package includes both: Version 6.0 software for the Observer TSTAT0201CW Wi-Fi wall control Version 3.19 software for the Observer TSTAT0101SC non-wi-fi wall control. You must accept the End User License Agreement (EULA) before you will be able to download the software package. This software is licensed to a single user, only, and the software may not be copied and distributed. DO NOT distribute the software package itself. You MAY distribute this installation instruction document and/or the link to the EULA to others, who then must accept the EULA before downloading the software for themselves. NOTE: The software installation process reverts all configurations to their factory-default state. The system MUST be re-learned and re-configured each time the software updated, including setpoints and schedules. Software updates should only be done by qualified service technicians. NOTE: There are no functional changes to the Observer system which required literature changes. The Version 5 literature remains current, and should be used with Version 6 software updates. Procedure 1. The currently loaded software installed in an Observer control may be found by turning power on, or touching Setup on the Main screen and then touching Version. The initial Observer Communicating Control screen shows the software version. Initial Power On Screen Software Version Screen 2. Insert the USB memory device (USB thumb drive) into your computer, using the USB adapter noted above. It is best if there are no other files on the USB drive. If there are files on the USB drive that you wish to save, copy them to your Desktop, then delete the files from the USB drive. 1

3. Download the software update package by either clicking on this link, http://www.tools.icpusa.com/observer/observer_control_v0600-0319_eula.html, or copying the link and pasting it into the address line of your Internet browser. The End User License Agreement (EULA) will appear. NOTE: You may NOT distribute the software itself. You may only distribute the link to the EULA, or this instruction document. 4. Read the End User License Agreement (EULA) and accept the EULA by clicking Yes. If you do not accept the EULA, you will not be able to download the software update package. 5. Click on the Download link to access the software download zip file. 2

Within the zip folder, you will find the image.hex, flash.h, wimage.hex, wflash.h and load.h software files, and a documents folder. Verify that the zip folder states, Version 6.0-3.19. Click on the Extract button. (Note: DO NOT click on the documents folder before clicking the Extract button. The documents folder only includes copies of these instructions, Terms of Use, and the EULA; and not the software.) 6. In the pop-up window, select the root directory of the USB drive. Then, click on the Extract button. 3

7. Verify that the files and folder, including the image.hex, flash.h, wimage.hex, wflash.h and load.h files, have been extracted into the root directory (also known as the top directory) of the USB drive. The Observer wall control will not find the files if they are stored anywhere other than the root directory. Note that there will also be an Observer_Version_6.0/3.19_ Documents folder added to the USB memory device. This folder contains this document, and various Observer System Manuals for your reference. 8. Power off the power to the Observer wall control. Plug the USB adapter into the mini-b USB port at the bottom of the Observer wall control. Plug the USB drive into the adapter. 4

9. Turn on the power to the control. If the files have been saved properly onto the USB drive, and the connections are all good, the software will begin to load automatically. Progress will be shown as: For TSATAT0101SC a series of bars building up from the bottom of the screen. The screen will usually not fill completely before the control reboots. For TSTAT0201CW a progress bar in the center of the screen, surrounded by small squares as the software loads. DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS, including removing the USB drive or turning off power, before the initial Observer Communicating Control screen appears (see the image in Step 12) TSTAT0101SC TSTAT0201CW 10. If the software does not start loading automatically, recheck the files, file names, the file locations, and the electrical connections. See steps 5 through 9. 11. On the first Observer Communicating Control screen, verify that the Software Version is: Version 3.19 for the Observer TSTAT0101SC non-wi-fi wall control Version 6.0 for the Observer TSTAT0201CW Wi-Fi wall control. If not, verify that you downloaded the correct software from the website and repeat the process. See steps 3 and 6. TSTAT0101SC TSTAT0201CW 12. REMINDER: The software installation process reverts all configurations to their factory-default state. The system MUST be re-learned and re-configured each time the software updated, including setpoints and schedules. Software updates should only be done by qualified service technicians. 13. This completes the Observer Control software update process. 5

Revision History Version 6.0: April 2017 (TSTAT0201CW Wi-Fi Capable) Includes all updates from Version 3.19, below. Updated/added Wi-Fi connection status variables for detailed troubleshooting Added an option for heat pump temperature lockout to be ALWAYS Updated single-stage default cooling airflow from 300 CFM/ton to 350 CFM/ton Fixed continuous fan operation issue for zoning systems Fixed small issues with SmartSense system discovery process Eliminated most/all Unknown Fault alerts Several other minor bug fixes Version 3.19: April 2017 (TSTAT0101SC non-wi-fi) Corrected issue with Continuous Fan and zoning that oscillated the open zones periodically, turning the last zone off and an unused zone on. Corrected Modulating Furnace percentage displayed in System Status screen that showed 40% when not running. Corrected issue where Equipment Configuration screen had two lines overwriting each other. Corrected issue where, during power up discovery, if previously configured and current equipment is not different, but missing, continued to power up as if the wall control found the same equipment. Now, a missing equipment error is shown during installation if a previously installed piece of equipment is missing during power up. System reconfiguration is only done if different equipment was found during discovery. Added back in code preserving O output to Aux Board that was part of Version 2.30. Version 5.02: December 2015 (TSTAT0201CW Wi-Fi Capable) All changes for Version 3.16 (non-wi-fi) are included in Version 5.02 (Wi-Fi) Added support for multi-stage, inverter-driven outdoor units Added option for hidden SSID Wi-Fi network setup to Network Scan screens, and updated network scan actions Added option for automatic time synchronization with Internet Added support for mode display on mobile apps Added fault code number to Last 10 Faults list Corrected an infrequent issue where a change in outdoor temperature caused an email alert Corrected infrequent issues on User screens: Cool icon remains active, even though system is not cooling. Available temperature setpoints on screen match the system mode (Heat mode: only Heat To setpoints are available; Cool mode: only Cool To setpoints are available; Auto mode: both Heat To and Cool To setpoints are available). Loss of screen data after recovery from zone fault. Corrected infrequent issues on Service/Installer screens: Touching the screen in a blank area caused phantom buttons to appear. Some options grayed out and unavailable when they should be available. Dealer information entry limited to the available size of the fields. 6

Version 3.16: December 2015 (TSTAT0101SC non-wi-fi) Only system malfunctions, those which cause the system to not heat or cool for more than a couple hours, are shown in the display (or sent via email on Wi-Fi systems). All other system events are suppressed to the User. Added default service information (ICP Customer Service) for homeowner when dealer information is not entered Heat pump reserving valve remains energized after the end of a cooling cycle to reduce refrigerant noise Zone panel faults no longer cause a communication bus error Pressing the Back button saves changes in the Time Between Fuel Types screen The HUM and/or H output is energized for both the indoor unit and the daughter board, when both are present in a system For dual-fuel systems, when switching between electric and fossil fuel heat, the indoor blower motor continues to run for a period between the HP shut down and furnace start up to balance pressures in HP refrigerant system Correct staging times for 3-stage electric strip heaters in fan coils Outdoor unit (ODU) communication faults or malfunctions will be treated as setting the system mode to EHEAT for HP systems, and Heat for AC systems. Normal operation will resume after operation of the ODU is restored. Relearning change in software such that absence of equipment doesn t remove it from configuration, only different equipment found will change the configuration. (Corrects loss of ODU communication issue). Updated display of indoor unit heating stages to be more informative Updated default settings for Sleep period; changed from 60F Heat/82F Cool to 68F/76F Version 4.02: February 2015 (TSTAT0201CW Wi-Fi Capable) Original Software Release for the Observer TSTAT0201CW wall control Version 3.11: February 2015 (TSTAT0101SC non-wi-fi) Properly sets EMHT (Emergency Heat) in a zoned system Updated incorrect airflow for non-communicating heat pump systems with strip heat Updated communication bus valid message checks during system learning Changed "Return" to "Eve" in Schedule screens to make consistent across all screens Correctly sets Humidify and Dehumidify setpoints on all CTS screens in a zoning system Correctly displays the proper zone name with the proper comfort schedule Correctly validates values when setting Weekdays/Weekend period start time Added 30%/OFF as a selection to the backlight. When set to 30%/OFF, the Active backlight will be = 30%; after the timeout, the screen will go completely dark until pressed again. Configuration settings are now remembered when updating to new software version (TSTAT0101SC, only; TSTAT0201CW requires that the system be relearned and time and schedules be re-entered) Changed communication fault timeouts from 15 seconds to 55 seconds Corrected Main Screen Fault Reminder; Clears correctly when fault goes away Corrected smart recovery for zones 2-6 in zoned systems Fixed ID temperature offset screen for non-zoned systems 7

Corrected display of "Fan Coil" in equipment summary screen when system is heat only Corrected startup configuration check for daughter board heat only system Corrected zone sensor indoor temperature offset Added back button for initial entry of lockout code Modified handling of zone touchscreen set-points when temperature override is enabled Removed double beep from done button in set-point adjustment menu 8
