Roadmap
Digital Divide A forgotten word?
Digital Divide How about rural areas? Source: EU Digital Divide Infographic
CASE STUDY: Greece, Rural Connect PPP Installation and operation infrastructure for broadband internet access, in order to achieve digital convergence for the most disadvantaged rural areas of Greece with the rest of the country ~3000 km Fiber core network by wireless point to point links in remote areas supporting demanding quality of service applications (Retail & Business internet access, VoIP, VOD etc.) Wireless broadband access network based on 3,6 GHz TDD LTE solution
EU Innovation Gap Performance Change 2011 2017 Performance increased in all green coloured regions Performance has decreased in all purple coloured regions Overall decline as compared to 2008-2010 Source: Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2017
CASE STUDY: Project INVITE Co-designing and piloting demand-driven mechanisms, skill-sets and measures for stimulating and facilitating open innovation across European innovation systems Multi-stakeholder approach to develop innovation-driven synergies with network partners that contribute complementary competencies Open Innovation Lab aimed at better matching the supply with the demand for ideas and knowledge, supporting OI projects and linking them to proper financing solutions. The services will be scalable and affordable for the smaller actors of the OI landscape too (i.e. start-ups, SMEs, micro-firms, etc.)
CASE STUDY: FLEX-FLIoT Experimentation NITOS testbed allowed us to use several technologies that otherwise would be hard to build on our own. Experimented with low-power long-range networking for IoT applications. Food producers network use case: Enable food production that is based on small and dispersed producers to offer larger quantities of controlled food quality.
CASE STUDY: PhasmaFOOD Portable photonic miniaturised smart integrated system to able to detect food hazards and spoilage. Consumers, food scientists, business in the food supply chain can benefit from spectroscopy food analysis Follow us at phasmafood.eu twitter.com/phasmafood
CASE STUDY: DataBio Production of best possible raw materials from agriculture, forestry and fishery for the Bioeconomy industry to produce food, energy and biomaterials Large scale data collection enhances knowledge to increase performance and productivity in a sustainable way. Visit: databio.eu
Return on Investment (ROI) ROI metric : (Gains from Investment Cost of Investment) Cost of Investment
Empathy Gap Silicon Valley s biggest failing is.. the distinct lack of empathy for those whose lives are disturbed by its technological wizardry. Om Malik, The New Yorker, Nov 2016 DSI can be a tool for improved Exploitation of network and computing infrastructures
Stakeholder Empowerment Are digital skills enough? Technology soft skills - What is this? - Why? - So what? Challenge the engineers: What is the application? instead of What are the specs?
Our Value Proposition DSI can be a method of improving the value and takeup of commercial ICT offerings Empowerment of the innovation stakeholders through technology soft skills will result more effective applications Positive impact on the people and the local sectoral ecosystems will result increased gains from the investment, hence faster ROI
