BlackBerry PTT Client Quick Reference Guide

Please note the following before using push-to-talk (PTT): Push-to-Talk contacts reside within the PTT application. You will need to launch the application to use PTT. Contacts and groups set up by a corporate administrator cannot be deleted or edited by the user from the phone. A corporate administrator will need to delete or edit those contacts remotely. This Quick Reference Guide has been developed for the RIM Blackberry Bold and Curve handsets. There are operational differences between the two handsets due to the Bold s touch screen. The Bold s client can be activated using the touchscreen, while Curve users will need to use the scroll function. Supported OS version is BlackBerry 7.1. 1. Download, Install, and Activate the PTT Client a. From the BlackBerry s home screen, find the Browser. Click the Browser, type EPTT.mobi in the URL address bar (where you enter the address of a Web site), and then press the Trackpad on your BlackBerry handset. b. An AT&T EPTT download center page will appear on the screen. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Download Now. Then a more detailed page on the EPTT application will appear on the screen. Click the Download button on the new page. If you are prompted to confirm whether you want to use BlackBerry App World with a new device, click Yes to confirm. 1

c. The process of client download and installation will start. Upon completion, click Yes to confirm. Then a pop-up window will appear, prompting you to run the application program. Click Run in the pop-up window. d. You will then be prompted to activate the EPTT service. Click Yes for activation and then click Accept to accept the license agreement. e. Once the client completes its connection to the server, you will be prompted to view a tutorial or go straight to the Home screen of the EPTT application. It is recommended that you view the tutorial first. After you finish, click the Escape key of your BlackBerry handset, and you will be able to see the Home screen of the EPTT application. f. Once you install and activate the EPTT application, you can find the application icon on the handset s home screen. 2

2. Navigation Bar From the handset s Home screen, select the Push-to-Talk application and press the icon or the convenience key to launch the application. You will see the following PTT menu icons: Home: Displays your call and conversation history. You can also change your presence status here. Contacts: Displays your contacts and alows you to start PTT call, send an alert, or add/search for a contact. Groups: Displays your groups and allows you to create/edit a group or initiate a group call. Favorites: Displays your favorite contacts and groups. You can easily start a PTT call to your favorites. 3

3. Creating PTT Contacts The PTT contacts directory is separate from the phone s native contacts directory. There are two ways to add PTT contacts: Manual Entry contacts can be imported from the phone s native contact list or manually entered into the Enhanced PTT application. Some phones may not have this ability if the corporate administrator has restricted manual contact entry. Administrator-Managed Contacts A corporate administrator can add PTT contacts directly into all of a corporation s PTT phones. Contacts added by a corporate administrator cannot be deleted or changed. The following instructions illustrate how to add contacts manually. From the Contacts screen: a. Scroll to New Contact or use the touch screen (with the BlackBerry Bold) to input information about your contact. b. Choose whether you want to add contacts through Native Phone Book or Manual Input. c. To import from the Native Phone Book, select a contact you want to add to the PTT application, and their information will automatically populate the contact edit screen. The Manual Input option will open the contact edit screen. Type the contact s name and phone number and then select Save. d. Once you save that contact s information, it will appear in the PTT contact list. 4

4. Creating PTT Groups Groups can be created manually or pushed to the phone by the corporate administrator. Groups added by a corporate administrator cannot be deleted or changed. The following steps illustrate how to create a group manually. a. Go to the Groups screen and select New Group. You can also press the menu key and select New Group. b. The new group screen will appear to let you input group information. Enter the group name and select Add Members. c. Select the contacts to be added to the group. Use the menu key and select Add Selected Members. d. When done, press the menu key and select Save Group. e. Your group will now show up in the groups tab and can be used for PTT calls. 5

5. Making PTT Calls to Individuals or Groups a. Making a PTT Call to an Individual i. Go to the Contacts screen and use the check box to select the contact you want to call. Press and hold the PTT button (the convenience key on the right of your handset) to start the call. You can also press and hold the contact s name, select Call from a pop-up menu, and then press the PTT button. ii. A call confirmation will appear. At this time you can press and hold the PTT button (the convenience key) to launch the call. iii. Wait for the Chirp tone before you start speaking. When you finish speaking, release the PTT call button. iv. If you hear an error tone when holding the PTT button, it means someone else has the floor. In this case, wait for the floor control to be released (you will hear a release tone when the floor is open). Tap the End Call button to end the call. 6

b. Making a PTT Call to a Pre-defined Group i. Go to the Groups screen and select the group you want to call. Follow the same steps of starting a PTT call to a single contact. c. Making a PTT Call to a Quick Group (Ad-hoc Group) 7 i. Go to the Contacts screen, select all the contacts you want to call by marking the check box of those contacts, and then press and hold the PTT call button. All the contacts will receive your call at the same time. d. Making PTT Calls from the History Section of the Home Screen i. Go to the Home Screen to see a list of the most recent PTT calls. ii. You can select a contact or group and then use the call initiation steps described above to start a PTT call. 6. Receiving Incoming PTT Calls a. When you receive a PTT call, you will hear a chirp followed by the initiator s voice. b. To respond, press and hold the PTT button (the convenience key) and start speaking after you hear a chirp. When you finish speaking, release the PTT call button. c. If you hear an error tone when holding the PTT button, it means someone else has the floor. Wait for the floor control to be released (you will hear a release tone when the floor is open) d. Tap the End Call button to end the call. Note: The keypad must be unlocked in order to take the floor when a call is received. Also, if your phone is set to silent mode, you will not hear any incoming PTT calls. However, increasing the phone s audio volume will allow you to hear the on-going call. If the speaker is off, you can hear the PTT call audio through the earpiece.

7. Receiving Incoming PTT Calls while on a Regular Phone Call If a PTT call comes in while you are on a regular phone call, you will receive a missed call alert. From that alert, you will be able to PTT back to the originating party directly from the missed call alert. 8. Receiving Incoming Regular Phone Calls while on a PTT Call If you receive an incoming phone call while on a PTT call, you will be able to answer that call and put the PTT call on hold. 9. Setting Your Presence Status a. Go to the Home screen and select your status from the My Status bar. Choose the availability state you want to set. b. You will have the option to select Available or Do Not Disturb. c. If Presence is set at Do Not Disturb, the Self Availability icon will turn red and callers will not be able to make a PTT call to you. 8

10. Sending an Alert (Call Me Alert) a. Sending an Alert: Go to the Contacts screen and use the check box to select the contact you want to send an alert to. Press and hold the contact s name. A menu will appear on the screen. Select Send Alert. You can also mark the check box of the contact you want to send an alert to, press the menu button, and select Send Alert. Note that a contact s phone number cannot be edited. To change a contact s phone number, you will need to delete the contact and add it again with a different phone number. c. If you want to delete a contact, a confirmation window will appear on the screen. 10

13. Editing/Deleting PTT Groups a. Go to the Groups screen and select the group you want to edit or delete. Press and hold the group name to open the menu and select the edit or delete option. If you are designated as a supervisor, you can simply use the PTT call button to take the floor any time and start speaking.
