Thank you for your interest in our World of Fiery Webinar. This FAQ answers the questions from the session. If you would like to view the session again or share it, please access the recording of the webinar here. Is Command WorkStation 6 a purchase upgrade? No, it s free! We have some Fiery system FS200 and FS150 Pro. Are these supported by Command WorkStation 6? Yes, Command WorkStation 6 is compatible with FS200/FS200Pro and FS150/FS150 Pro as well as FS100/FS100 Pro and System 10. How do I tell which version of Fiery hardware I have? And if it will be compatible with Command Workstation 6? Command WorkStation 6 supports Fiery System 10 and higher. To check your Fiery version, open Command WorkStation Device Center, and under General it lists the system version. Also, you can print a configuration sheet. More info here: http://www.efi.com/en-gb/products/fiery-servers-and-software/fiery-command-workstation/fiery-commandworkstation/supported-printers/ Is it possible to have Command WorkStation 5 and 6 installed on the same computer? Command WorkStation 5 and 6 cannot be installed on the same computer. Is the upgrade going to affect any of my existing paper catalog, workflows, color settings, or color profiles? All of these are held on the Fiery server, and will be retained on upgrade to Command WorkStation 6. How does Command WorkStation 6 affect ImageViewer? ImageViewer works the same way in Command WorkStation 6 as it did in Command WorkStation 5. I have an old Fiery Impose dongle. Will it still work with the new version? Yes, it will. Is the Fiery update only for the controller or does it include the OS updates? The Fiery update feature only includes patches for the Fiery server, which on Linux Fiery servers includes security updates. For Windows Fiery servers use Windows Updates to get the latest patches/updates for the OS. 1

How can I bring the welcome tour message back after I've closed it down? You can manually run the tour, whenever you want, from the Help menu. Will our current Impose and Graphic Arts Packages transfer over to the new Command WorkStation? Yes, they will. Will older version 5 of Command WorkStation still be available for customers who do not want version 6? Yes Command WorkStation 5 is still available on our download site. Here s a link to the latest version: http://www.efi.com/en-gb/support-and-downloads/downloadregistration/?type=apps&oem=efi&sid=fieryapplicationpackage&model=291~v4.4.0.849&area=application%20software&product=fi ery Extended Applications v4.4.0.849 Will this new version ever be compatible with my 5-year old Konica Minolta C7000 and 5-year old OKI 900 DP? Command WorkStation 6 supports Fiery System 10 and newer systems. We will not be adding support for older systems in the future. There are many different servers (with different Fiery system versions) available for the KM C7000 printer. This one is compatible with CWS6 the KM IC-306 v3.01 (it runs FS100 Pro). The OKI C900 DP lists as a Fiery System 8E controller, which means it will not be supported by Command WorkStation 6 in the future. The newer model OKI C9 Fiery which prints to OKI C931, C941 and C942 printers is FS150 codebase, so it is compatible with Command WorkStation 6. Is there still a way to create an extra view to permanently show a filtered view of jobs over the different queues? You can add custom views by performing an advanced search. Take a look at the recording of the webinar where we demonstrated this, and there is also an express video on Learning@EFI showing how: https://learning.efi.com/elearning/job-search-filters-andviews-in-command-workstation-6 Can "insert server job" be sorted by entry date? The Entry Date can be used to sort the server job. See image below. If you are experiencing an issue with this, please go to Fiery Forums and provide the following information: OS version, CWS version, Fiery system software version. 2

Can Fiery Command WorkStation display the real toner level percentage? Yes, on most models. The Command WorkStation 6 toner level information displayed should be exactly the same as Command WorkStation 5. With a mix of generations of Fiery RIPs, how can I run Command WorkStation 6 and 4 on the same computer? You will need a separate computer or a virtual machine. Do I need to purchase Fiery imposition software to get the barcode reader function to work on Command WorkStation? I am looking at purchasing a Duplo 616 pro and I believe the software can read barcode created from Fiery's imposition software. Duplo s 616 website has a video that talks about using Fiery Impose to create layout with barcode and registration mark (starting at 2:24 min). We also have a number of how-to documents on layout creation in Fiery Impose, under the Resource section http://www.efi.com/products/fiery-servers-and-software/fiery-workflow-suite/fiery-impose/resources/ I did upgrade to V6.0 and was prompted for a password. I never needed one before and couldn't find out what it should be. So for now I uninstalled 6.0 and haven't been successful in reinstalling 5.8. Both Command WorkStation 5 and Command WorkStation 6 require a password to login to the Fiery server. The default is Fiery.1. We also save passwords on upgrade. Is it possible to set custom size when selecting slip sheet? On some later models, it is possible. See the finishing tab of Job Properties for Slip sheet. When jobs error, is it possible to force print a job from Command WorkStation? Let's say the specific paper is not available, but I just want to print a sample on different paper from a different tray than what's specified in Job Properties. Some Fiery servers support a force print feature, where you can choose a print tray to print on if you have a media error. Force Print can use any tray (except bypass trays) with any paper size, media type, weight or coating supported by the printer. If you have a job waiting to print and displaying a please load xx paper size error, then right click on the job in Command Workstation and select Force Print to choose a tray to print the job. If this menu item is not available for jobs in this state, then it s possible your Fiery server model does not support Force Print. Proof/process and hold/ print and hold - why also duplicates to printed? This is solved in Fiery System FS200 and higher servers. We removed all implicit job duplication in this system software, so if you print and hold, the job prints and then returns to hold queue only. 3

Printed queue - time stamp done printing, always disappears after restart? Timestamp done printing is now a default column in printed queue in Command WorkStation 6. Also, we now save any modified columns, added servers, and other preferences instantly whereas Command WorkStation 5 needed to close gracefully to save these changes. Our Fiery takes 30 seconds to 2 minutes to open properties when trying to print jobs. We have re-installed, deleted all the jobs, etc. What can I do to speed things up? Command WorkStation 6 is faster. In the first 2-3 minutes that Command WorkStation 6 is open, we do some background caching, then after that Job Properties should open faster than in Command WorkStation 5. Why should we upgrade and who would do it, a tech from EFI? Upgrading on a separate client computer to Command WorkStation 6 is easily done by anyone, but you should ask your service provider if they support upgrades on the Fiery server itself for Windows Fiery servers. When printing a booklet I want to define the cover stock. I click on the button and it takes me to Cover Media. It says none defined and in dropdown says choose from Paper Catalog. The Paper Catalog is empty. I need to know how to edit this catalog. Please speak with tech support as this sounds like a bug. Or post this info along with screenshots, and your model name/version to Fiery Forums. Are some features that were removed, like being able to edit a job in the column directly, going to be reinstated? You can now perform inline editing in the right hand job summary panel, instead of inside the columns. There are some features that were removed such as customizing the toolbar, which will be reinstated. We are actively listening for feedback from customers on Command WorkStation 6 to determine what s important to you. Can I upgrade from older Command WorkStation and Impose which is ALL on a USB dongle, running on an older Windows XP unit to the new Version, or do I even need Impose any longer? Command WorkStation 6 is not supported on XP. You can still use USB dongles with Fiery Impose. For more detail, check the complete specifications - http://www.efi.com/products/fiery-servers-and-software/fiery-command-workstation/fiery-commandworkstation/specifications/ How can I change from default 10 to 50 or more on the 'Printed' list? If you open Configure (available from the Server menu), the Job Management section has an option for Printed Queue. You can change the number of jobs you want to keep in the Printed queue there. 4

How far backward compatible is this version with respect to Fiery system? Command WorkStation 6 supports Fiery System 10 and newer servers. Command WorkStation 6 does not support System 8/9/9R2 or Fiery Central servers. How does this interface with an imac? I find that I don't have the features available to me as I should on my imac, things as simple as selecting the tray to print from, print front and back and such. Command WorkStation 6 will show the same features on Mac and Windows, and there is no difference between different Mac hardware e.g. MacBook or imac. If you re missing features only on Mac then there may be a problem. Please contact technical support for help. How do I print color to the edge? Most printers have an unprintable area of a few millimeters around the edge of the sheet. Most people get around this by printing on a larger paper size and trimming down to a final finished size. What happened to the "Basic Color Settings" flowchart that used to be in the Color section of the Device Settings tab? An improved version of the Basic Color Settings flowchart (with some related information) is available as part of the on-line help in Managing Color\Color print options at http://help.efi.com/cws/6.0/en-us/guid-eef4e792-1436-4cf1-bcda-408eb03a8c5a.html From the server homepage, is there a way to export for reports? The reports on the Home screen of Command WorkStation 6 cannot be exported. However if you use Fiery Navigator, you can export all the information. Fiery Navigator is completely free for the first three Fiery servers and we encourage you to try it. You can export information from Fiery Navigator. Alternatively you can export your Fiery job log from Command WorkStation 6. Is the update limited to certain external controller or will it work on embedded controllers (i.e, E23-C)? Fiery updates will support both external and embedded controllers, but not all servers are supported yet. We are opening up Fiery Updates to more controllers over time, after they have passed our rigorous Quality Assurance testing. Any issues with presets from environments with mixed versions of Command WorkStation? Like if someone makes a preset using Command WorkStation 6, will it pose an issue on Command WorkStation 5? Local and Server presets created from earlier Command WorkStation versions such as Command WorkStation 5 will also work on Command WorkStation 6. We have not tested creating presets on Command WorkStation 6 and then using with Command WorkStation 5, but as the mechanism is the same we anticipate no issues. Is the red dot next to Polyfinish server indicating offline? The Red dot indicates there is some sort of error reported. Click on that server to expand it, and you will see the error at the top, which could be load paper or door open or any other stop condition. If the Fiery server itself is offline, it will show as disconnected - 5

no 3 dots next to the server name, and if you click on it you will be prompted to connect/login. What's the difference between Filter and Searches? Can you demonstrate search or filter by employee/user? This was demonstrated during the session 1 webinar, and there is also an express video showing how: https://learning.efi.com/elearning/job-search-filters-and-views-in-command-workstation-6 Can you run all patches at the same time? Yes, with the new Fiery Updates feature in Command WorkStation 6 you can run all the patches at the same time. The Fiery server will automatically take care of all necessary reboots during the patch installation process. Will the Fiery start up the same way? Meaning, will it show "starting.. please wait".. "idle'... etc.? Yes, the Fiery server will start up in the same way when using Command WorkStation 6, with only one difference; if Fiery Updates has just been used to apply patches or updates, and the Fiery Server is still undergoing the installation process. While updates are in progress, the Fiery server status will show Red in the top status bar with the message Updates are currently in progress, the Fiery server will restart automatically. Does it make sense to extend the Fiery RAM? Will it affect the speed of the work within the Command WorkStation? This depends on the Fiery model. Some models allow RAM to be upgraded, others do not. Please contact your tech support for details of your particular Fiery model. What is the recommended way to back up or clone the entire server before we upgrade? For Fiery System FS100 and higher servers, we recommend using Fiery System Restore. This can be accessed by inserting Fiery System Software DVD1, which ships with your Fiery Server. You will have an option to backup the entire Fiery system image to a USB drive. There s an elearning free course here: https://learning.efi.com/elearning/fiery-100-configuring-fieryservers?fromreq=1324&fromreqtype=course_requirement For System 10 Fiery servers, and embedded servers please use the Fiery Clone Tool, available on our download site, under Application Software and Tools http://www.efi.com/support-and-downloads/download-center/?type=&oem=&sid=&model=&os If I have two printers, one running Fiery Server 9 Rel2, and the other on 10 - can I still update? Command WorkStation 6 will not connect to a Fiery System 9 Release 2 server, so you would not be able to use Command WorkStation 6 for both Fiery servers. You could still use Command WorkStation 6 to manage the System 10 Fiery server and Command WorkStation 5 to manage the System 9R2 Fiery server independently. 6

Tray associations still work the same with Xerox Media Library Manager (Xerox Versant 2100 and 3100 +Xerox x1000)? The tray association in Command WorkStation 6 works the same as tray association in Command WorkStation 5, no matter the connected Fiery and press. Is Fiery Central going to be updated to allow it to work with Command WorkStation 6? We do not have a date for providing Command WorkStation 6 support for Fiery Central. Do the patches updates apply to the Windows and Linux base or only Windows? The Fiery Updates feature supports both Windows and Linux based Fiery Servers. We are in the process of turning on Fiery Updates for more Fiery models, so if your Fiery server shows This model is not supported under Fiery Updates today, then it may be still enabled in the near future. How do standalone Fiery systems with no internet access keep up with updates? I know you can access software via the Fiery website. Is that the recommended method for offline/isolated systems? If Command WorkStation 6 has access to the internet, it can pull the updates and then install them on the connected Fiery server. The Fiery server itself does not need to be connected to the internet for Fiery Updates to work. Does Command WorkStation 6 have a cut off for older Fierys? We have one from 2009 - an E-8100 v1.1. Command WorkStation 6 supports Fiery servers running System 10, FS100, FS150, and FS200. The E-8100 v1.1 is a System 8 product and is not supported. Will Command WorkStation 5 want to upgrade to Command WorkStation 6 if the current version is connected to a system that is not supported by Command WorkStation 6? Yes, Fiery Software Manager will prompt you to upgrade to Command WorkStation 6. There is a warning message at the beginning of the process that alerts the admin that Command WorkStation 6 does not support Fiery Central and System 9 Release 2 and earlier Fiery servers that is displayed for everyone. But it does not check all the existing connected Fiery servers to determine if they are supported. The package will install, but then connection to these older servers will be blocked. Does the Command WorkStation get the quick stat info real time? Will it be different when I see the quick stat from the different Command WorkStation with the same Fiery server connected to each of them? Yes, Command WorkStation gets the quick stat real time by analyzing data directly from the Fiery server job log. The quick stats should be identical from different Command WorkStation instances. 7

There were down arrows by the trays under the server on the left. My interface does not have the down arrows for the trays. Is there a reason why the down arrows aren't available for me? If you mean the tray menus, which open to show the Paper catalog items available for that tray this should work as it did in Command WorkStation 5. Is the backup feature only for Command WorkStation locally and it s not for Fiery Server, like when using system software DVD? The Backup and Restore feature is available from Command WorkStation, and backs up the Fiery server settings. Backup and Restore does not capture a full Fiery server image. For this, we recommend using Fiery System Restore, which is the one available on the System Software DVD Which Operating system is Command WorkStation 6 built in, Linux or Windows? Command WorkStation 6 is a client application that runs on a Mac or Windows computers (or on Windows based Fiery servers) that will connect to your Fiery server, whether the Fiery server is running Linux or Windows. Can I upgrade from version 6.0.0.51 to 6.0.373, and if so, how? Fiery Software Manager is the utility on your computer that manages the installation of Command WorkStation. This utility will let you see the latest version, such as 6.0.0.373. Does the Default Settings tool in the Device Center apply to the server for all users, or only for your computer? The Default Settings feature applies to the Fiery server, so applies to all users of that Fiery server. How well does Command WorkStation 5.8 running on a PC/MAC workstation connect to a Fiery Server running 6.0 and vice versa? Command WorkStation 5.8 and Command WorkStation 6 are both client applications that connect to the Fiery server. Whether a Command WorkStation version is running directly on the Fiery server, or is running on a PC/Mac workstation does not matter. Both Command WorkStation 5.8 and Command WorkStation 6 can connect to the same Fiery server without issue, as long as it s a supported version (e.g. System 10 or higher for Command Workstation 6). Is Fiery going to Win 10 or staying with 8.1? That depends on each individual Fiery server. Contact your printer supplier for any upgrade kits that may be available for your particular printer/fiery combination. 8

Do you have to process the job in order to see the preview? Spooled doesn't seem to show the preview... To see the thumbnail in the job list, you have to process the job first. This is the same behavior as Command WorkStation 5. Is the toolbar at the top of the Job listing customisable? Toolbar is not customizable today; we have it on our backlog. Remove Raster option, or even better a Re-Process and Hold option, in the Job Properties drop-down menu so it's easier to Process and Hold a job from within Job Properties that already has a Raster? This is fixed in Fiery System FS300 version and higher. We automatically remove rasters now, so never need to select remove raster again. Is the Device Centre ONLY found under the "more" icon? Can it be added to the side bar for easier access? You can also access Device Center from the Server menu, and with shortcut keys ctrl+shift+d. For Update and Patches to work, will it work through a Proxy? Yes, we use the proxy as used by the OS. If it s not working, please contact tech support. Will Server config back up Special Output Profiles? Backup and restore, and Fiery System Restore captures all user added and modified output profiles. Is Java gone? Java is no longer needed when connecting to Fiery System FS150 or later Fiery servers. We also no longer ship Java with the Command WorkStation package. Java is still used only when opening Configure Tool on System 10 and FS100 server versions. Does Fiery work with all types of printers? Can you use Fiery with any device besides a computer? A particular Fiery server works only with the printer for which it was designed, and does not support other printers. Our Fiery XF software supports a wide variety of wide and superwide format printers. Is there any way we can preview file without process? Yes. Like in Command WorkStation 5, if you choose preview on a spooled job in the Held queue, you can open up the job in Preview and see the content of the job. 9

How does Command WorkStation 6 manage and get updates if in closed security environment where no internet allowed? As long as Command WorkStation 6 has access to the internet, it can get the patches and then download them to the Fiery server, even if the Fiery server does not have internet connectivity. But the Command WorkStation 6 client needs internet connectivity to get the patches. With Fiery Navigator, can this also be used in a closed LAN, but no internet access to register? Fiery Navigator requires a client to have internet connectivity (it can be the same client as Command WorkStation 6), but like the Fiery Updater, the Fiery server does not have to have internet connectivity for Fiery Navigator support. Can our IT screen the patches before deploying to Fiery? Unfortunately, screening the patches in advance is not supported. This is the same behavior for the patches installed via System Updates today. Can you confirm that Command WorkStation 6 can be loaded if the customer is using Windows 10 or wants to upgrade to Win10? CWS6 is fully compatible with Windows 10. See specifications. Some secure environment block applications such as Fiery Software Manager. Is Command WorkStation 6 available as a complete download? Yes, in our download center you can always get the latest Command WorkStation package as a full download. Here s a direct link: http://www.efi.com/en-gb/support-and-downloads/downloadregistration/?type=apps&oem=efi&sid=command_workstation&model=346~v6.0.0.373&area=application%20software&product=co mmand WorkStation v6.0.0.373 Is an intermediate print available while a job is printing? Some Fiery servers support a Rush Print feature, but Command WorkStation 6 does not bring any new functionality along these lines. So if Rush Print was available in Command WorkStation 5 on your Fiery server, you'll still have it in Command WorkStation 6. How many jobs can be seen standard now? Is it more than the 10 or 25 that you had to change in previous versions? If you are referring to the printed queue which defaults to 10 jobs, then there is a setting in Configure for your Fiery server that lets you choose to save up to the last 99 jobs printed in the printed queue. In some newer server versions such as FS200 the limit of 99 has been increased. 10

Can you now add menu items on the job properties menu and have them stay in the list between Command WorkStation 6 restarts? Command WorkStation 6 does a much better job of keeping these customizations than Command WorkStation 5. Command WorkStation 5 needed a clean exit of the application to save these settings; Command WorkStation 6 saves these settings in the middle of a session so better retains Job Property quick access and column headings How do I keep items in the printed queue? Every day, yesterday's are gone. The printed queue should keep the most recent printed jobs (up to the last 99 jobs) and should only be automatically cleared when new jobs print. I don't know of a situation where jobs in the printed queue are cleared overnight. Please give us more details on Fiery Forum. Can you search for Paper Catalog entries that are used for specific pages such as in JobMaster? Unfortunately, no. You can only search for Paper Catalog entries that are applied to the entire job, not to individual pages. Will the upgrade affect my current color profiles and color adjusts for image curves, or any saved workflows? No, the color profiles, ImageViewer curves, and job presets are all stored on the Fiery server and are unaffected by the upgrade to Command WorkStation 6.. 11
