It MAY be necessary in SOME instances to perform this step first:- BEFORE running the updated software you MUST delete the file c:\..\users\appdata\roaming\multilog2\multilog2.config This should allow you to edit the settings again and this time put in the path name of the folder created in Step 1. On running the MULTiLOG2 PC software again it will be necessary to enter all the configuration settings again. IMPORTANT Firmware revisions (The Firmware is the instructions that run the MULTiLOG2 hardware.) All MULTiLOG2s with serial numbers 20001-2013 to 20020-2013 inclusive (see Commissioning label on the MULTiLOG case) need a FIRMWARE upgrade to correct some bugs in the way that the MULtILOG2 operates these are:- 1. Recording time interval can now be set in minutes. 2. Start date of recording now properly recorded in 24hr format. 3. START command now sets readings back to zero 4. SMS sending problems resolved 5. MULtiLOG2 acknowledges alarms by button press even if LCD is off due to no USB power The firmware upload can be implemented in the field but requires a competent person to carry it out as there is a risk of stopping the MULtiLOG2 working so that it would have to be Page: 1/5
returned to Remonsys for repair and upgrade. Contact Remonsys if you need detailed instructions on how to do this. V1.9 05 SEPT 2014 RKB Fixed :Temperature limits down to -30 deg C (was -20 deg C) ; V2.0 18 SEPT 2014 RKB Added support for digital channels triggering alarms (digital inputs normally closed (low), alarm on open (high) ) ; use channel timeout timer, set to 5 minutes (300 seconds) ; V2.1 26 SEPT 2014 RKB Fixed: SMS messages being sent correctly for alarms ; ; V2.2 10 DEC 2014 RKB Fixed: MULTiLOG2 ignoring logging interval - now uses the shortest delay time to update the sensor states. MULTiLOG2 battery specification Radio Control Receiver Battery Pack 4.8v 2600mah Square RX Receiver Pack 4.8v AA 2600mAh Nimh Square Made from 4 x AA 2600mAh battery cells. Weight : 110g Capacity : 2600mAh Measured at 520mA (0.2C) discharge. Max Discharge Current : 7,200mA (7.2 Amps) Max Charge Current : 1300mA Fitting : Futaba Male Plug. Internal resistance: <90mOhms when fully charged (<25mOhms per cell) These batteries give around 3 times the capacity (running time) of most NiCd types, without any of the memory effects. This means that they can be recharged even when not fully discharged. Updated Windows drivers for the USB serial port (VCP= Virtual Com Port) Using the Serial Port Drivers If after installing the software the MULTiLOG2 does not 'FIND' the MULTiLOG2 when Change Configuration is used then it may be resolved by running the following file to be found on the USB memory stick. CDM v2.12.06 WHQL Certified (1).exe If you see the message Requires Elevation then quit the program, right click and Run as Administrator. OR choose from the Windows version options at http://www.ftdichip.com/drivers/vcp.htm Page: 2/5
MULTILOG2 shows date of 1990. This is a symptom of the logging battery being completely discharged because mains electric power to the PC, or the USB cable, has been disconnected. Recording will have stopped and must be restarted again by entering the configuration settings again. Go to Data/restart logging and the MULTiLOG2 date will be updated to that of the PC make sure that this is correct Sensor location taken out of use When a sensor location (e.g. a fridge or freezer) which has a sensor fitted and the equipment is not in use i.e. for cleaning then to prevent alarms being triggered for that sensor set the delay time for TMAX and TMIN set BOTH to 0 minutes. USE ONLY under these circumstances or there will be NO ALARM warnings. Fitting the SIM card Slide SIM card into the plastic guides in the holder with the cut corner to the top right. Close the holder and LOCK in place. When testing (Configure/Test SMS settings) ensure that a) there is a SIM card installed inside the MULTiLOG2 b) a telephone number set up to take calls Page: 3/5
FAULT FINDING MULTiLOG2 fails to show red LED when USB connected and mains power restored. Try swapping the batteries i.e. disconnect both logging and alarm batteries from their sockets and re-connect the battery that was in the alarm position (the right hand battery) to the logging battery connector. If neither battery has enough power (i.e. <=4.6volts) then leave the MULTiLOG2 connected to the PC with the USB connected. When there is sufficient power the red LED will indicate it. Software reports errors in running the program Try deleting Users\AppData\Roaming\MULTiLOG2\MULTiLOG2.config then run the MULTiLOG2 software again where it will take you through the Configuration settings again and on exit will recreate a new MULTiLOG2.config file. Error message when trying to save data With a MULTiLOG connected and after first setting up the configuration shows this error message. Likely that this is that the path C:\ is administrator access only. This is normally the case on recent Windows OS. Step 1: Creating a directory e.g. C:\MULTiLOG2_DATA\ (latest versions of the software automatically does this at installation.) Step 2: Change the file extension of the.config file from your %userprofile%\appdata\roaming\multilog2 folder (e.g. C:\Users\tom\AppData\Roaming\MULTiLOG2\MULTiLOG2.config ). Battery Not Charging No communication with the MULTiLOG2. If the MULTiLOG2 has not been connected to a PC and the batteries have not been disconnected, then the logging battery may be completely discharged. Try changing the battery connections to start the charging process. Leave the PC on with mains power and do not disconnect the USB from the PC for 24 hours. If the MULTiLOG2 is not in use ALWAYS disconnect the batteries. The red LED will be lit when MULTiLOG2 is charging its batteries Page: 4/5
Disconnecting the MULTiLOG2 USB connection results in having to reconfigure the MULTiLOG2. Serial COM ports are sometimes not reliable in "keeping their place" and the device may be, for example, on COM4 after installation (see Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Device Manager/Ports (Serial & LPT)) and then next week it's on COM6. This often happens if the USB cable is disconnected from the PC and then reconnected again. So, watch out for that and probably DON T DO IT. What if the digital door switch is showing OPEN when the door is closed? The digital switch has two wires. One is black or has a black stripe and the other is plain. Where they are connected inside the MULTiLOG2 (the green connector) try swopping the connections around. Page: 5/5
