It contains information that explains the Beside storage products and features within the Canvas program. Once you click on the Beside tab, you will see a main component tab with products and options for the Beside Storage system. This component tab is shown on the following page and provides an overview of what is included for the Beside product line. Products included are base units, upper storage units, pulls, and electrical. These products are part of Haworth s Integrated Palette. Base Storage In the Base Storage section, you will find products and options to plan storage components within your workstation. A combination of base units and upper storage components offer planning flexibility along with a variety of function and aesthetic options. From the Gray Input Box, make the following application selections: Filler Panel Gap Width Height: one high, one and onehalf high, two high Configuration: Many options. See Note below. No Input / Edit Boxes Toggle filler panels: Green = filler panels added to drawing Red = filler panels removed Copy Base Unit Canvas function to copy the properties of a base unit and apply them to other base units of similar size within the drawing. Upper Storage In the Base Storage section, you will find products and options to plan storage components within your workstation. A combination of base units and upper storage components offer planning flexibility along with a variety of function and aesthetic options. The Base Storage section has base units (single, double, and triple), storage tops, and filler panels. Upper Storage Tab Beside Upper Storage Product Gray Input Boxes / Green Edit Boxes Hutch This hutch attaches to a Beside base unit it requires a storage top to be placed on the base unit first. The hutch combines a stanchion kit and hutch shelf. When an overhead storage unit (OSU) is applied, the OSU replaces the hutch shelf. For 24"-wide through 42"-wide For 48"-wide through 72"-wide Place hutch on top of a base unit in the drawing area. From the Gray Input box, select: Width Height Stanchion Kit: See Beside Storage Specification Guide/Price List for proper stanchion kit application (section Stanchion Product Details & Applications). Configuration: Select position of the hutch. Slot Access: Select when Stanchion Kit Q is specified. Beside Upper Storage Product Gray Input Boxes / Green Edit Boxes Overhead Storage Unit (may be placed on top of stanchions and panels) Overhead storage unit (OSU) can only be placed on stanchions. When the OSU is applied to the stanchions, the hutch shelf is automatically removed by Canvas. For 24"-wide For 30"-wide through 42"-wide Place OSU in drawing area on top of stanchions. From the Gray Input Box, select: Mount Width Configuration Open Side: For single hinged door or sliding door. Lock Flipped For 48"-wide through 72"-wide Once the product is placed, make the following changes or selections from the Green Edit Box: Dual Sided Configuration: Select from a pull-down menu. Pulls In the Pulls section, you will find multiple pull options to use on Beside storage products. There are a variety of style, finish, and compatibility options. Based on the chart above, the choices are as follows: Box or File Drawers: Ellipse through Linear Hinged Doors: Ellipse through Touch Latch Sliding Doors: Blade pull only (no pull choices) Unit 2: Beside Storage Products and Options 12
Schemes In the Schemes section, you can select options, materials, and finishes for application to all or selected Beside base units or Beside upper storage units within your workstation. This saves time and creates consistency. Schemes can be used and saved for: Specific clients and used for multiple installations Color/finish schemes Global changes For additional information on creating and applying Schemes, see Unit 4a (Canvas, Working with Haworth Furniture) in the CET Designer Reference Guide. There are two Scheme options for Beside: Base Storage: Use when applying the same surface type, surface color, trim, edge, pull type, leg type, shelf, and back to multiple base units or entire work spaces. Upper Storage: Use when applying the same surface type, surface color, edge, case, pull type, shelf, and front to multiple upper storage components or entire work spaces. In the Scheme Manager dialog box, select the Properties for this particular scheme (our example shows a client scheme for ABC Design). Once you have made your selections, click Apply, and Save your scheme. Another scheme option is to save a color/finish scheme. For example, save a Graphite finish scheme. Materials In the Materials section, there are five material options that are primarily used for accent colors within your drawing. These material options are shown below. The Gray Input Box gives you choices for: Apply To: Select all components or only specific parts. Spread: Apply to one area, vertically, horizontally, or to all parts on one side. E Paint Click on the ellipsis ( ) to get a list of materials and colors. Use this to select or change the material and colors to be applied. The Material Select box lists choices for the type of material you have selected. Once a material and color are selected, click on the black arrow ( ) to pick up this material and apply it to additional surfaces. Unit 2: Beside Storage Products and Options 16
Belong Electrical In the Electrical section, you will find products and options to establish your electrical components within a work space. Electrical products include power distribution assemblies (PDAs), base feeds, top feeds, and jumpers. Belong Electrical Tab Belong Electrical Product Gray Input / Green Edit Boxes Wire Configuration Choose electrical option. From the pull-down menu, click on 3- Circuit, 4-Circuit, or Hardwire. No Input / Edit Boxes Routing Choose electrical routing. From the pull-down menu, click on Automatic or Manual. No Input / Edit Boxes If Manual is selected, jumpers will not automatically be placed when an infeed is attached to the PDA. Use Jumper (Manual Routing) button below to manually placed jumpers in the drawing. Power Distribution Assembly (PDA) Insert a power distribution assembly (PDA) into storage units. Belong Electrical Product Gray Input / Green Edit Boxes Power Tap Power tap includes three 15-amp receptacle outlets and a power base connector. Use the power tap mounting brackets to attach above or below a worksurface. For Under Surface Option For Fixed and Adjustable Options For Grommet Option Jumper (Manual Routing) Jumpers are applied manually to make the power connection between PDAs mounted in utility trays. No Input / Edit Boxes Base Feed Infeed designed to bring power from the floor into the base of the storage units through the PDAs. Make the following application selections: Feed Type: Four choices Feed Length: Length varies depending on feed type selected. Unit 2: Beside Storage Products and Options 18
Belong Electrical Product Gray Input / Green Edit Boxes Top Feed Infeed designed to bring power from the ceiling to the storage units through the PDAs. Once the product is placed, make the following selection from the Green Edit Box: Ceiling Height Add Text to Electrical Drawing CET function to add text to an electrical drawing. See the CET Designer Reference Guide Using the Drawing Functions. For additional installation type tools, see the Tools component tab in CET Designer. Add Dimensions to Electrical Drawing CET function to add dimensions to an electrical drawing. See the CET Designer Reference Guide Using the Drawing Functions. For additional installation type tools, see the Tools component tab in CET Designer. Remove Electrical Item Canvas function to remove panel components (any component within the Panels tab). UNIT 3: BESIDE STORAGE TIPS AND TRICKS Beside Storage Reference Manual The following chart covers helpful tips as you navigate through the Canvas program and design with the Beside Storage system. Product Tips and Tricks BESIDE STORAGE Base Unit, Single Base Unit, Double Base Unit, Triple Storage Top Stanchion 24" - 42"-wide base units cannot be used freestanding; units must be attached or ganged together. Storage tops can match the width of a single base unit or span two or more adjacent base units side by side. One-high base storage unit cannot attach to or support Reside desking or return worksurfaces. Double base storage units are designed to: o attach side by side or back to back to other base storage units o attach perpendicular to a Reside desking worksurface o attach adjacent to a panel Storage tops can match the width of a single base unit or span two or more adjacent base units side by side. One-high base storage unit cannot attach to or support Reside desking or return worksurfaces. 24" - 42"-wide base units cannot be used freestanding; units must be attached or ganged together. 48" - 72"-wide one, one and one-half, and two-high base units can be freestanding. However, all base units with drawers must be attached. Storage tops can match the width of a single base unit or span two or more adjacent base units side by side. One-high base storage unit cannot attach to or support Reside desking or return worksurfaces. Storage tops can match the width of a single base unit or span two or more adjacent base units side by side. Storage tops are dimensioned to accommodate base storage units with inset unfinished backs or finished attached backs. If unfinished back is specified, top will extend 3/4" past the back of the unit. Stanchion can be used on a single base unit or can span multiple units in a side-by-side application. A single stanchion kit can support a Beside overhead storage unit. Height of base unit, stanchion kit, and overhead storage unit cannot exceed 58". Hutch Shelf For use with Beside products only. Maximum stacking of hutch shelf and stanchion kits not to exceed 58". 48" or wider shelves can only be used with stanchion kits H, N, P, or Q. Shelf must match width of stanchion kit. Attach overhead storage unit to stanchions mounted on Beside base units, or attach to top mounts on Overhead Storage a panel system. Unit Overhead storage unit options include: open sections, hinged doors, and sliding doors. 24"-wide overhead storage unit does NOT have an option for sliding doors (too narrow). Filler Panels Filler panels are not a Beside base unit attachment option for storage support. Unit 3: Beside Storage Tips and Tricks 20
BELONG ELECTRICAL Power Distribution Assembly (PDA) Use PDA to access power or route power through Beside storage units. Beside storage PDAs do not accept receptacles. Do not mix 3-circuit with 4-circuit components. Do not mix 2+2 and 3+1 components. Power Tap Power Tap applications should be reviewed by local authorities (electrical inspector) prior to ordering due to varying local codes. Jumper Use with Reside Desking and Beside Storage. Refer to Specification Guide for calculation of jumper length. Receptacle Do not mix 3-circuit with 4-circuit components. Do not mix 2+2 and 3+1 components. Use with Beside storage units.
