1 Introduction 1.1 Validity This document applies to the VMC-1 Video Management Center. It has been created based on the following versions: DallmeierVMCSetup 1.2.2.0 SeMSy III 1.2 Documents Commissioning The document entitled Commissioning contains the most important steps for the connection and commissioning of the device. The target audience is trained and authorized professionals (installers). Installation and Configuration (this document) The document entitled Installation and Configuration contains detailed descriptions of the installation, connection, commissioning and configuration of the device. Safety instructions, general notes and technical data are additionally provided. The target audience is trained and authorized professionals (installers). 1.3 Conventions This document contains various warning words and symbols that indicate potential sources of danger. DANGER DANGER indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. 2 Safety Instructions Only use this unit if it is technically in proper working order, to the intended purpose and while keeping safety and potential dangers in mind. Qualified personnel Installation, mounting, connection, commissioning and configuration of the unit may only be carried out by qualified personnel. This also applies to the maintenance, testing and repair, whereat the regulations of the DIN VDE 0701 series of standards (repair, modification and inspection of electrical appliances) must be followed. Regulations The use of video and audio surveillance systems in general is strictly regulated. Inform yourself about the applicable laws and regulations regarding data, working and environmental protection before using the unit and ensure compliance with them. System components Only use internal components that have been tested and approved by Dallmeier. Inappropriate internal components can cause malfunctions, damages and data loss and can result in loss of warranty. Modifications Do not make any modifications to the hardware or software that has not been tested and approved by Dallmeier. Inappropriate modifications can cause malfunctions, damages and data loss and can result in loss of warranty. Documentation Carefully and completely read the documents included in delivery. Always observe the contained instructions, notes and warnings. Condensation water If the unit is brought from a cold to a warm environment, resulting condensation water can cause malfunctions and damages. In this case wait (up to 8 hours) until the unit has reached room temperature before commissioning. Operating conditions Unfavourable operating conditions can shorten the life of the unit and can cause malfunctions, damages and data loss and can result in loss of warranty. Observe the specifications given in the technical data, the operating condition requirements and the maintenance instructions. Shocks Shocks can cause malfunctions and damages. The unit may not be moved while in operation. Foreign bodies If objects or liquids get into the unit, immediately disconnect it from the power supply (pull out the power plug). Burnt smell If you notice burnt smell or formation of smoke from the unit, immediately disconnect it from the power supply (pull out the power plug). Contact the sales partner responsible for your area. Opening The housing of the unit may only be opened by qualified personnel for commissioning, inspection, maintenance and repair. Disposal Disconnect the unit from the power supply. Remove all connected devices. Return the unit to your respective sales partner. www.dallmeier.com 7

3 General Notes 3.1 Scope of Delivery Included in the standard scope of delivery is: 1 VMC-1 main module with keyboard 1 TFT monitor 6" 1 Joystick module 1 Jog-Shuttle module 1 Power supply unit (12 V DC) 3 USB cable 1 12 V connection cable for monitor 1 Documentation Installation and Configuration (CD) 1 Documentation Commissioning (in print) The scope of delivery may differ depending on the ordered equipment, the device variant or the country of destination. The functional range of the device depends on the ordered equipment or device variant and may differ from this document s content. Certain functions and features may require an activation that is subject to costs. 3.2 Transportation and Packaging Store the original packaging for transportation at a later date. Dallmeier electronic is not responsible for damage resulting from unprofessional/improper transportation. The goods should only be shipped in their original packaging. If the original packaging is no longer available, ensure that the packaging used sufficiently protects the unit against damage, moisture, heat and cold. 3.3 Appropriate Use The VMC-1 Video Management Center is a modular designed system for control and evaluation of CCTV installations via a PC. The individual components keyboard, joystick and jog-shuttle may be positioned freely and are therefore equally well suited for left- and righthanded operators. The high-value appearance of the product will enhance the workplace and with it the entire workflow significantly. It can be adjusted and integrated in virtually every project because it is individually programmable. 3.4 Performance Features The VMC-1 is especially characterised by the following functions and properties: Flexible positioning of the modules (suited for right- and left-handed operators) Individual modules can be used as stand-alone devices www.dallmeier.com 8

6 Connection 6.1 Monitor 6.1.1 Mounting ¾¾Ensure that the main module and the monitor are disconnected from the power supply. 6.1.2 Connection ¾¾Ensure that the main module is disconnected from the power supply. ¾¾Note the connection assignment of the monitor. ¾¾Connect the power cable (12 V) with the monitor. ¾¾Connect a USB cable with the monitor. 6.2 System ¾¾Ensure that all modules are disconnected from the power supply. ¾¾Note the connection assignment of the modules. ¾¾Connect the joystick module with the main module. ¾¾Connect the Jog-Shuttle module with the main module. ¾¾Connect the monitor with the main module. ¾¾Connect the main module to the PC (hot plug). ¾¾Connect the main module to the power supply (12 V DC power supply unit). The VMC-1 starts automatically and is ready for use after few seconds. www.dallmeier.com 14

7 Commissioning The VMC-1 can independently or in conjunction with the video management system SeMSy III are commissioned. The procedure differs slightly. ¾¾Ensure that all modules are disconnected from the power supply. ¾¾Note the connection assignment of the modules. ¾¾Connect the joystick module with the main module. ¾¾Connect the jog-shuttle module with the main module. ¾¾Connect the monitor with the main module. ¾¾Connect the main module to the PC (hot-plug). ¾¾Connect the main module to the power supply (12 V DC power supply unit). The VMC-1 starts automatically starts and is ready for use after a few seconds. 7.1 General After starting the VMC-1 is automatically detected by the operating system of the PC. ¾¾Note the appropriate messages of the operating system. ¾¾Follow the instructions of the operating system. ¾¾Finish the installation of the USB driver. After installing the USB driver, the desktop is displayed on the monitor of the VMC-1. The VMC-1 can be connected using the PC to the CCTV system. ¾¾Note the appropriate documentation of the CCTV system. 7.2 SeMSy III After starting the VMC-1 is automatically detected by the operating system of the PC. ¾¾Note the appropriate messages of the operating system. ¾¾Follow the instructions of the operating system. ¾¾Finish the installation of the USB driver. The graphical user interface of SeMSy III may be displayed on the monitor of the VMC-1. For this purpose the installation of a separate driver (Artista) is required. ¾¾Start the DallmeierVMCSetupX.X.X.exe file. The installation dialogue is displayed. www.dallmeier.com 15

The VMC-1 can now be used to control SeMSy III. 7.3 Joystick Calibration The VMC Joystick should be calibrated after the installation. The appropriate operating system dialogue can be opened in the system control. Windows XP ¾¾Open Start > Control Panel > Gamecontroller > Hydra Joystick. Windows 7 ¾¾Open Start > Devices and Printers > Hydra Joystick. Observe the documentation of the operating system. www.dallmeier.com 16

Mouse Control with Joystick In some applications (e.g. SeMSy III Map), the cursor can be controlled with the joystick. ¾¾Open the required application. ¾¾Press F4 (G) to activate the mouse control with the joystick. www.dallmeier.com 17

9 Configuration The keys 01-14 or 15-28 (double occupancy) on the keyboard can be assigned to specific functions. The assignment of the functions is in the file DallmeierKeyBoardOPCServer.ini. Editing the file is possible with any text editor (e.g. Notepad, WordPad). ¾¾Open the DallmeierKeyBoardOPCServer.ini file in a text editor.
