ProfitMaker 9.10.00 Update Installing an update to ProfitMaker happens in two phases: Single System Installations Phase I & II Phase I updates the file structures of your data directories. Phase II updates the program files and is performed only after Phase I of the update has completed successfully. Phase I & II should be performed on the computer where the ProfitMaker software has been installed. Network or Multi-User Installations Phase I Phase II Terminal Server Updates the file structures on the shared network drive for network installations and should be run from a workstation. Phase I is only run once per update version and does not need to be run again for subsequent workstations being updated. Phase I must be completed before starting Phase II. Time may vary depending on your data size and number of data directories you have. For maximum performance, run Phase I from the fastest workstation. Phase II is performed only after Phase I of the update has completed successfully. Phase II will be performed automatically on workstations the next time the user logs into ProfitMaker. Pages 7-10 of this document should be given to the user if your network settings allow the automated updating at Login. Reminder: Phase II also needs to be performed on any computers that you plan to run the ASICS Fax/Email/Manifest/eCommerce server programs. The following Instructions pertain to Single, Mult-user and Network installations unless expressly specified. Before You Begin Checklist Here is a checklist of things that are required for a successful installation: Save your work, and exit all other programs. Antivirus software and programs running in the background can slow down an installation. For best results, although not required, close these types of programs. For this installation you must be logged in with Administrative rights on your computer. Contact your network administrator if you re not sure about this information. You must be on ProfitMaker 9.00.XX or higher. To find your software version in ProfitMaker, go to Help About. Updates are free with our Full ESDSS agreements. If you are not on our current version, please contact software/upgrade sales at 319-266-7688. Alert all users to exit the ProfitMaker software and close any ProfitMaker login windows. Use the view active users option under utility folder, then station/licensing module, then view active users button to make sure there are no active or background users logged into the database. MULTI-USER/ NETWORK If you have a workstation running a fax/email, manifest or ecommerce server, make sure those workstations are logged out as well. If you have more then one data directory you need to log into each one and check for active users. MULTI-USER/NETWORK needs to also check for background users. It is recommended that you use ProfitMaker s index feature to index the files in each data directory you will be updating. We strongly recommend you make a backup of all data directories in case of a power-outage or other failures with the update. Minimum System Requirements Microsoft XP Professional or higher. Complete system requirements are available at:: www.asicomp.com/requirements. MULTI-USER/NETWORK If you have ecommerce Gold/Platinum, it is recommend that you disable your sites while performing Phase 1 of the ProfitMaker update. This can be accomplished within the Site Specification section of ebuilder and resetting IIS. If you have questions, contact ecommerce Support at ecommerce@asicomp.com. Definitions Data Directory Drives: Will default based on your system setup. Multi-user/Network installations will typically be located on a network drive. Single System installations will typically be located on the C: drive. The ASIDTA folder will contain all the necessary files and folders for the data files for your Company business. The ASIPLAYS folder will contain all the necessary data files and folders for a training/learning company. The ASICLIENT folder contains the necessary files to update the program directory in Phase II. Program Directory Drive: Will default based on your system setup. Programs will be located in the \ASICS\ASIPM folder typically located in the C:\Program files\ folder on the workstation. Phase I 1 The Welcome to Phase I - File Update screen will appear. Click the Next button to continue. Email: support@asicomp.com Page 3

Phase I (continued) 2 The Requirements screen will appear. Acknowledge you have read the documentation and check the box. The software will not allow you to proceed until the box is checked. Select either Typical Update or Custom Update. Typical Update will use your existing settings and install to those directories. This is the recommended method of installation Custom Update will ask you to verify each option and allow you to make changes. ONLY use this option, if you know a change has occurred to your ProfitMaker network setup. Click the Next button to continue. 3 The Start Update screen will appear. Verify that all directories to be updated are listed and correct. All data directories listed will be updated, not just the highlighted one. If not correct, select Back, then select the Custom Installation and make the necessary changes. Click the Next button to continue. Email: support@asicomp.com Page 4

4 The update will begin installing. Phase I (continued) For each data directory that is setup with Advantage Server or Local Advantage Server, this window will appear during the installation and will close automatically. No user input is required. 5 The update will finish installing. An informative message that Phase 2 may appear based on the Microsoft Operating System and individual workstation setup. Click OK. Phase I (continued) The Phase I completion screen will display. Click Finish and Phase II should start automatically. Click the Finish button and proceed to Phase II Email: support@asicomp.com Page 6

Phase II 1 Phase I MUST be completed before beginning Phase II. The remaining pages can be given to the user, if installation of Phase II occurs when logging into the ProfitMaker software. Multi-User/Network installations The following steps must be completed on ALL workstations that will be used to run the ProfitMaker program, including computers running the ASICS Fax/Email, Manifest or ecommerce server programs. 2 If Phase II does not automatically start or for Multi-User/Network installations,updating the individual workstations where network settings do not allow automatic Phase II updating when logging into ProfitMaker, navigate to the ASICLIENTUPDATE_91000.EXE program located in the ASICLIENT folder on the drive where you Data Directories are located. 3 The Welcome to Phase II - Program Install window will appear. Click the Next button to begin. Email: support@asicomp.com Page 7

Phase II (continued) 4 The Default Directories window will appear. Verify that all directories to be updated are listed and correct. All data directories listed will be updated, not just the highlighted one. If they are not correct, check the Use Custom Installation check box and on the next screen you will be able to modify them. Click the Next button to continue. 5 The Select Components window will now appear. Put a checkmark next to the additional applications you wish to install. If required, these can be installed at a later date. Hardcopy: Gives the ability to take snapshots of screens and print or save them to file. After selections have been made, click Next to continue. 6 The installation software will now begin copying files to your drives. See step #7 for various other conditional updates that may occur during this process. 7 Conditional Updates KeyHH KeyHH allows users to view the ProfitMaker Help file. If this update program installs you will see a dialog box that says: KeyHH has been successfully installed. A link to the KeyHH Help file has been placed in the program group Keyworks. Would you like to view the help file now? Respond No to this question. The installation of Phase II will continue. If KeyHH is already installed, then you will not see a dialog box. Advantage OLEdb Advantage OLEdb is required for the Business Intelligence reporting feature that provides managers and owners with new tools to gauge their business current and past performance. If Advantage OLEdb is already installed, then this component installation window will not be seen. Follow the instructions on these windows to complete the installation/update of Advantage OLEdb. We recommend using the default selections provided by the installation software. Email: support@asicomp.com Page 9

Phase II (continued) 8 When the installations are all complete, you will see the Successfully Installed window. Click the Finish button to complete the update. 9 Multi-User/Network Repeat steps 1 thru 8 on all other workstations that run ProfitMaker. Finished! Phase II of the ProfitMaker Update Installation is now complete. If you encounter any problems during the installation, contact ASICS System Support for further instructions (319-266-7601). Post Update Recommendations Backup Now! Once the update is completed, it is HIGHLY recommended that all data directories again be backed up. If you do not backup and the ASICS software needs to be restored, you will have to run all phases of the update again prior to using the software.
